Subject: Imperial Position

***Encrypted***

Grand Vizier, I felt the need to ask a question of you after a recent conversation between the King Motour of Volus and Fleet Admiral Corvus regarding a potential, and temporary join operation of an Imperial interdictor and the Volusian fleet. It was during the refusal that Mr Motour was informed of various discrepancies which were used in the denial. I wanted to check on an official imperial position, if one even exists, as to the Volusian response on the attack of the Vjun space station as well as our willingness to give our own logs and findings to the head of the defense committee.

My question boils down to is the official position of the Empire that we have acted in incompetence in these matters or have we in any way attempted to restrict facts or appeared to do so from the Empire?

With regards,
Senator Star

Dear Senator,

While there appears to be a common perception that Volus is indeed incompetent in matters of interstellar piracy, I can assure you that this is in no respect the formal opinion of the Empire, and nor is it an opinion that the Empire endorses or promotes. It is my understanding that the Defense Committee is compiling a report on the recent piracy in your system on the basis of documents your world has provided to them, and that no formal opinion has been or will be expressed on the issue until the publication of that report. I hope this answers your question. It would seem that Admiral Corvus was expressing his personal opinion, based, I assume, on the undeniably, unusually high amount of piracy—or, to be more correct, attempted piracy—in your system. As for his ignorance of the accommodations your world has made to the Defense Committee in terms of documents, intelligence, etc., it is possible that, being as far removed from galactic events as your system is, the Admiral simply might not yet have received the news.

In any case, however, I'm afraid the Admiral is right that CC-2200 frigates are in much demand throughout the Empire and that none can be spared at this time. The waiting list for them is, I believe, on the order of three standard months, unless there is some dire need for them which, it seems, there isn't at Volus.

Warmest regards.
