I convein an emergency session of the Imperial Loyalist Coalition of Free Trading Worlds to raise the topic of the senseless and inane sanctions being taken against Embaril for something which appears to be nothing more complex than a simple shipping accident.
"The Imperial Loyalist Coalition of Free Trading Worlds condemns the reactionary actions of the Cronese Mandate and their effect of stifling the flow of commerce in the Tion Cluster and surrounding space. The Coalition calls to an immediate end of hostile rhetoric and a return to sensible discussion and arbitration as the first resort - not inhibitive sanctions. The Coalition leaves all options on the table with regard to the resolution of this conflict."
Should this protest be ineffective I propose we convein two weeks hence to consider the deployment of ships to protect ships from any Cronese attack while bypassing their space - to secure the spacelanes and to assure the flow of free trade - without taking action against individual worlds of the Mandate.
The spacelanes must stay open, I will not have traders from the Azure Sector and in wider space be deprived of their lawful profits by trivial differences between petty rimward states.
I put this course of action to a 3 day emergency vote of the Coalition.

| I will vote in favour of issuing the warning, it requests what we have stated to be sensible - a return to negotiation.

| You are completely right, Senator Ordan...trading must continue despite this event. I vote in favor as well.

| Commissioners, the Commerce Committee is unanimous in the opinion that this embargo represents an undue impediment to free commerce in the Tion Cluster and will be informing the Cronese Mandate of its concerns in the coming hour. The Committee will also prevail upon its ruler, Robeir, to reconsider his embargo or be advised that acts of economic retaliation could ensue. I would recommend, gentlemen, that the Coalition endorse the Commerce Committee's entreaty on this matter and declare that if the Mandate disregards this entreaty the Coalition will have a stronger case for intervention. But it's my expectation that Robeir will not be as resistant to reason as his Senator has demonstrated himself to be, and will be persuaded to reconsider. Time will tell, but in the meantime I would recommend exhausting all options before the Coalition intervenes. A resolution of disapproval in the Senate, for instance, would bestow a veneer of Senate approval on the Coalition's intervention if and when it does happen. Added (15 Oct 2011, 9:43 PM) --------------------------------------------- Gentlemen and Senator Thanatos, pardon.

| I agree, Senators Ordan and Cambrist; we can't go shutting down the spacelanes simply because the Cronese Mandate are faulting people for an honest accident. Ideally, this can be resolved without the need for sanctions or blockades.

| You're too kind, Senator Domon. The Cronese Mandate's representatives seem to be too hot-headed and more willing to use force and threats. It's likely that is all they will respond to. A show of force, perhaps, Senator Ordan? Between all of us, we have the might to cow them into a peaceful resolution. The Cronese Mandate is vast, but they dare not engage in open warfare.

| I concur that the cowards are unlikely to resort to a conflict of arms with professional fleets such as ours. IF we are unable to get a peaceful settlement within the time period then I don't think it would be unreasonable to form a taskforce to A. Make a show of force and B. Consider a "protest blockade" of a Mandate world to demonstrate what is happening to Embaril to Cronese people.
