Mr Stark,

I wish to write to you in confidence to request the withdrawal of your application for an Aurek-class license. After the incident during the recent disorder on Imperial Center. I believe that it is extremely likely that during an official hearing, the deposition from the Committees technical specialist (Mr Kirkwood) and that of the Imperial Navy would be against approving a license due to the recent debacle in general and the involvement of your own droids in particular. In the circumstances, anything less than a full endorsement from both these groups would result in the committee having no choice but to deny the application, incurring considerable embarrassment to yourself.

I must say I am rather concerned about the safety of these units, but must stress that the issue may naturally be raised again in the future once safety measures are instituted and the climate is more friendly toward the idea of the production of autonomous weapons.

Naturally, I would wish to offer such a prominent philanthropist the chance to "bow out" gracefully before the announcement of any decision, if you wish to proceed that is of course your choice.

Yours sincerely,

Bernard Oriel

Senator Oriel,

I cannot simply bow out at this stage, as you say. The Aurek-class license would be issued for a land-based drone system, an aerial drone system and a planetary defense fighter system. These are different drones than those that were involved on the disorder on Imperial Center and, as such, cannot be held to the same level of responsibility. At this time, I am still willing and prepared to fight for the acquisition of the license.

In the long run, it costs me little and indeed incurs little in the way of embarrassment. My defense is prepared. Nonetheless, I appreciate the offer.

Warm regards,

Alyn Stark
