Dear Mr Stark

For a matter of importance to the Ruling Council.. I'd like to ask a few questions.

Your opinion of the state of the Kanz Sector?

Do you think Moff Shirnoq is up to the job of keeping order?

If violence broke out along ethnic lines do you believe the Argazdans or Lorrdians would be better placed militarily to effect a victory?

In the event of an Argazdan-Lorrdian conflict do you think either party would seek to close the Veragi Route?

How many men does Lorrd contribute to the Imperial Military each year? Do you feel it could be improved? If so, how?

Of the Houses of Lorrd, which is the least inclined toward the Empire?

Outside of the Democratic Party (fly paper for rebels) do you think there are any individuals who pose a threat to the New Order's agenda?

I'd appreciate answers to these questions.. I also wouldn't mind you calling on me the next time you're on Imperial Center after you've nailed down the matter with Dr H. Lennon. I do hope he's not too greatly inconvenienced you, would you like him dealt with? He's an old man after all, it would be highly unfortunate if he were to fall ill.

I gather you're moving toward an accommodation with him; a highly pleasing development as I calculate it ought to strengthen the position of your House in the region; Lennon's rhetoric was indeed excessive and I've written to him to express my concern at his.. enthusiasm for his cause? I've a list of men from the Democratic Party who I believe pose a threat to the order of things, when we meet I'd like to discuss the action to be taken against them.

Sincerely,

Lord Gregorious Gemmell
Advisor to the Emperor
Imperial Ruling Council

Lord Gemmell,

If I may say, it is strange at the least that you write to me directly and not to one of the ruling Houses, as it were, but I will do my best to answer your questions as correctly as I can.

In my opinion, the relative state of the Kanz Sector is one of peace and stability, at least in a generalized whole. I am sure you are aware of the guild warfare between Argazdan and Lorrdian mining guilds on Destrando City at Slovo, but at this time, Lorrd has chosen not to intervene militarily for fear of sparking further issues between Argazda and Lorrd.

I have a high personal opinion of Moff Shirnoq, as well as a healthy professional respect for the man. He believes in productivity and order above all, with justice a very close second. Despite his lack of interference on Destrando City, I believe this constitutes as a local issue to him within the Ereesus System which is near to his sector capitol. I believe, however, he is close to intervening as the productivity on Destrando City has dropped dramatically in the last two weeks with open warfare.

In the matter of a war between Argazda and Lorrd, I cannot truly say who would be better militarily placed to affect a victory. Lorrd, as you may know, fields a single heavier ship than Argazda owns and then supplements with smaller vessels and a few squadrons of snubfighters. Argazda, as per the last public record, fields nothing in the heavy department but holds a larger number of medium-class vessels with a larger snubfighter compliment. Both worlds have stations; an Imperial Golan III at Argazda while Lorrd has a personal Cardan-IV station. I suppose it would down to military tactics; I do not foresee, should a conflict occur, any ground forces coming into play.

In the event of a Lorrdian-Argazdan conflict, Lorrd would certainly not close the Veragi Trade Route; nor, I believe, would Argazda and furthermore, with the Golan III station at Argazda along the route, I doubt either side could close the route without sending ships that would weaken either side should the other attack. Mind you, Lord Gemmell, this is all my hypothetical opinion.

Lorrd, a world with just over one billion in population, contributes, on average, between two thousand and two thousand five-hundred people a year to the Imperial Military. This number could be improved, I believe, were an Imperial ROTC program or military academy added to Lorrd University. Many of the students go out in the galaxy to find jobs within the Core Worlds in many prestigious locations. Additional funding to host a military academy on the world would aid in drawing more young minds to the Imperial military.

When it comes to the Houses of Lorrd, I am not well-placed to make a call such as that. To the best of my knowledge, all of them are equal supporters of the Galactic Empire and full supporters of both Human High Culture and the New Order.

Outside of the Kinyov Democratic Party, I can think of no beings on Lorrd, offhand, that could prove a threat to the New Order's agenda. Granted, there were extremists in the form of a Dalton Campbell who wished to be affiliated with Mr. Lennon and a certain Samuel B'stard who took it into his hands to try and 'vouch' for me by holding Mr. Lennon at gunpoint. Both men, I believe, could stand to see the right face of the Empire so they might better be able to serve.

The next time I return to Imperial Center will likely be prior to my marriage, and I will call upon you at such a time, Lord Gemmell. When it comes to Mr. Lennon, I feel that the trouble he's been through is more than enough; he's lost the chancellorship, he's been arrested and he will likely face trial for the charges he is currently being held for. I see no reason to have him permanently removed from the picture. As you say, he is an old man and after whatever actions were taken to reverse his fortunes, I doubt he will find any followers.

When you speak of 'my House in the region,' I fear you may be mistaken, Lord Gemmell. I am no longer a member of House Malos; Jendos Merced is the current head and he too, is to be married as well soon, with a son on the way to follow in his steps. When I arrive at Imperial Center, we may well discuss this list of men from the Democratic Party. I look forward to meeting you in person, Lord Gemmell.

Regards,

Alyn Stark
