Senator Cambrist,

I know you and I hardly see eye to eye, but being the man in charge of the Commerce Committee, it seems more fitting that I come to you about this matter. Despite all the commentary about me being cold-hearted and evil and yadda yadda yadda, at the end of the day, while I'm not inclined to directly apologize for commentary that wasn't specifically directed, especially since these folks seem to want me arrested, I do feel bad for the families of those who lost parents and whatnot. Far be it from me to see children grow up without a positive influence.

What I'd like from you, Senator, is to broker a fund. Call it something clever. 'The VerDomFed Orphan Fun' or 'The DomFed Fund For Children Whose Parents Have Suffered Accidents.' The end result is that I am willing to donate ten million credits annually, or perhaps every two to five years, towards this fund. I rely on you to see it's properly channeled through the Empire to ensure the funds are not misused. Frankly, that Baal fellow strikes me as rather shifty. But that's neither here nor there.

I appreciate your assistance in this matter.

Regards,

Mr. Stark,

Your remark was of no great concern to me. In fact, I'm not sure I remember it. I rose to second Ambassador Baal's motion for an apology because it appeared the usual cadre of Senators who come unerringly to your defense on these matters were doing so yet again, and I'm more opposed to cults of personality in the Senate than I am to some innocent, if somewhat insensitive remark you made. You must be a man of considerably more charm than I observed when we last met, Mr. Stark, to have inspired the personal fealty of so many Senators, who have defended you so many times and, at times, to the detriment of their own reputations. No, Ambassador Baal is no friend of mine, Mr. Stark. I have no common cause with his Federation.

As touching as it is that you want to establish a fund for "families of those who lost parents and what not," this really isn't my concern, nor the Empire's. The government of this Federation does appear to be rather hostile to you, perhaps for "being cold-hearted and evil and yadda yadda yadda." To be sure, it would be unfortunate if they turned down your donations, but that is their right. Neither the Empire, nor the Commerce Committee, are in the habit of forcing people to accept money. The Imperial Bank will not be used as an instrument of your "clever" public relations campaign, Sir. This is, truly, none of the Empire's business.

Sincerely,

Senator Cambrist,

I chalk it up to my charismatic nature, actually, that a number of people rise to defend me. I certainly don't ask for it. Of course, in a galaxy where people like Hector Cynum are allowed to wage war for the thinnest of pretenses, I suppose a man like myself, a man for the defense and betterment of the people, is indeed a rarity. Nonetheless, I may have to send out a few letters asking said Senators to be less... well, obvious in my defense. But I look to start no cult of personality, regardless of whether or not such has grown. I suppose it doesn't help that we haven't met for such a long time. Perhaps we ought to do lunch. Would you be averse to coming on board the Stark's Pride the next time I make it to Imperial Center?

As you say, Senator, if the Commerce Committee and the Empire do not wish to have a part in this fund, I can understand. I shall withdraw my request to you. Thank you, nonetheless, for your time.

Regards,

Alyn Stark

Mr. Stark,

Yes, I would be averse. If you have a business matter you'd like to discuss, I'm available during my office hours.

Sincerely,
