Major Cumberdale-McBastard,

It has long been the desire of Lorrd Engineering Groundworks to produce a viable vehicle for the Empire. I would like to submit to you the vehicle we have on the drawing boards at the moment for potential exclusive sale to the Empire. I have heard of your preference for walker-styled vehicles and I believe this particular model may draw your attention.

Designation: LE-105 Mk. VI (Codename 'Thud')
Height: 5.2 meters (cruise configuration); 8 meters (walking configuration)
Weight: 18,600 kilograms
Maximum Speed: 95 km/h (walking); 130 km/h (cruising)
Armament: Variable
  • Turreted long range anti-vehicular cannon
  • Turreted long-range solid-shot artillery cannon
  • Turreted anti-orbital mass-driver cannon (effective against low-orbital ships only)
  • Turreted anti-infantry heavy blaster cannon

  • 1x Forward-firing anti-personnel blaster cannon
  • 4x Firing ports (one per side, two in rear)

    Crew:
    • 1x Pilot
    • 1x Gunner
    • 2x Troops

Information: The modular 'Thud' walker is a variable deployment walker, serving in a number of roles from planetary defense against raiders, anti-personnel for riots, anti-vehicular for defense or offense and solid-shot artillery for bombardment application. This model was designed in a quad-legged walker stance for greater mobility and stability, yet offers drop-down wheeled stability for urban or flat environments, increasing response time. Development is in progress to incorporate repulsor lifts into each leg as well. The walker itself is well armed and armored, capable of being impervious to small-arms fire. Note, if you will, the increased armor on the legs and joints, reinforcing weak points in many walker designs that can be exploited by a careful enemy. It is our hope that you may consider and advocate this particular model within the Empire.

    Regards,

    Paul Donovan

    Built one?

Does it fly too? Or just stamp about?

We have built one as a prototype, yes. The model we have at the moment does not have the repulsors placed into the legs yet; this is still being calibrated and will be installed for testing within a matter of days. At the moment, it walks and drives though.

I'm planning a little showcase of some new designs with the suppliers on Carida at the Academy Proving Grounds late next week. Why don't you bring your "Thud" along and see if I am impressed by it? It'll all be top corporate and military brass, so why don't you have your company's owner and his good lady wife (if she wishes) come along?

I can request to Mr. Stark that he be present for the showcase. If we have any further designs, I assume it is, of course, safe for them to be presented alongside the LE-105 Mk. VI? If Mr. Stark is unable to make it, I will ensure myself and some of my top staff are present.

Well so long as we can take a look at them in advance I see no problem with this. I realize Mr Stark may have a busy schedule, but for the sake of trying to "help out" a smaller producer which (as it stands) has zero significant contracts I would strongly advise you to bring the most auspicious delegation possible.

While I am an open minded man, and like your own Mr Stark a self made man, I must say that the present suppliers are likely to be hostile to extending your company an invitation at all (as a little known shipwright) and so I am sticking my own neck out in granting this opportunity. While I am open minded, if the delegation is not suitably high profile it is likely that feeling within the procurement division will be that your corporation is in some way "not serious" about it's entry into the market as a potential Imperial supplier.

Thus perhaps you could let Mr Stark know that if he wishes to get his units purchased he will have to use all his legendary charisma to win over the evaluation board - a board I should add that is made up of Core-born Military Brass, blunt speaking men who want to meet the organ grinder, not the second tier flunkies (no offense intended).

Again may I apologize if I am being blunt, but I sincerely wish to see your craft has a good crack at the whip, and while the craft's merits remain to be seen, Alyn Stark is well known for his personal charm and assuring manner, qualities which would be excellently deployed in networking with the procurement division.

I will see that the designs are posted to yourself later this week for your evaluation. As for Mr. Stark, I will impress upon him the importance of being at the meeting. I trust any clearance necessary will come through to this office that I might forward it to Mr. Stark, unless of course you'd like to reach him on his personal channel? If so, do let me know and I will pass it on to you.
