| Plain Reason By a Free, Human Citizen It seem obvious to me that at this time the sentiments express are suitably “anti-Imperial” and some will allege “radical” that it will not at this time come to be accepted by the majority of the sentient beings in this galaxy. There are many who have profited from the Empire, notably in Core worlds and amongst its Human inhabitants, but while these individuals luxuriate in their wealth they do so at the expense of the poor citizens of the Empire, Alien and Human.
The Empire has repeatedly been seen to have little or no regard for the wellbeing of citizens, especially of those citizens who are to use the minds with which they have been endowed to criticise the manifold immoral policies passed by those who have power over the Empire.
Manifold crimes against Imperial Citizens have been upheld by the Empire. The Empire has tolerated the Massacre at Ghorman, and still Moff Tarkin remains in a prominent role! How can this be when many hundreds died as a direct result of his orders?
The Empire has sanctioned the butchery at Alurion, the Empire has attempted to shield itself with pathetic denials which serve not even to convince a child despite the charred corpses and melted glass landscape being all that remains of the once proud and happy city of New Coronet. For what did they die? They died because they attempted to assert the right every Citizen should have, the right to a representative form of Government.
The cause of Alurion and those who protest the Empire’s despotism is in great measure the cause of all sentient beings. Many circumstances have, and will arise, which are not local, but universal, and through which the principles of all sentient beins are affected, and in the event of which, their affections are interested.
The laying desolate of a city with fire and turbolaser, declaring war against the sentient rights of all mankind, these acts of barbarism are of concern to all who do not wish to suffer the same arbitrary fate, dealt indiscriminately by a tyrant’s might. A Government which has used indiscriminate on its people is one which has abdicated its right to rule. A ruler who presides over such a government is guilty of grievous crimes against civilization.
I propose that the Senate adopts a motion declaring that the Emperor has made himself unfit for office (as seen by his rare public appearances he is clearly a sick man) by his actions. The motion should state that the Emperor has ceased to be Emperor by his actions in sanctioning massacres such as Ghorman.
Thus the Imperial Throne would be vacant. From here the Senate should elect a suitably wise, moral and just individual to be proclaimed the new Emperor, the Senate must also establish suitably that the elected Emperor is bound to give up power after one year, if he has not abdicated by that point.
This “transitional Emperor” would preside over the “De-Imperialization” of the Empire. All edicts passed since the declaration of a New Order would be declared invalid. The cancer of the Empire and the Corruption associated with the old era would be cut out of the good flesh of the Republic.
During this year of transition the Senate would vote on a New Constitution to right the wrongs of the Republic. This constitution would grant to all their sentient rights and protect all citizens from the state.
The power of the state would be drastically reduced. Taxes would be reduced. The bloated obese figure of the military would be slimmed down to an appropriate size to simply provide for the common defence and not oppress the people. Freedom of conscience would be granted to all sentient beings. No more would the state persecute on the basis of religion or political leaning. But equally neither must it sustain expensive and pointless institutions such as the Jedi Order. Indeed there should be no move to the establishment of any religion as a branch of the state.
If worlds wished to secede, there would be a legislative framework in place to accommodate this (but with suitable incentives for members to remain part of the Republic and preferential conditions provided for membership of this Republic), so that all members feel free to act as their people wish.
After the transitory year was ended, the “transitional Emperor” would be obliged to step down and in his abdication edict declare the new constitutional Republic as his legitimate sucessor in ownership of sovereignty as the representative of the citizens of the Galaxy.
This new Senate Chamber would try the tyrant Emperor Palpatine for crimes against civilization. In a trial for crimes against civilization, the Galactic Senate would serve as the jury, with the Supreme Chancellor or the acting President of the Senate serving as the judge as was the way in the Republican past.
Thus I propose this radical agenda, this radical mandate. Is there a Senator in the Senate with the courage to take up this torch?
