The Lieutenant may or may not look uncomfortable as Paul played his lute, but stood by, waiting for Deschain. As the High Inquisitor appeared in the hanger, he motioned for the pair of stormtroopers to escort Vil Haran towards the Dark Whispers while he moved towards Paul instead. "Lieutenant Oriel. A pleasure, I'm sure. What brings you here at this time of night?"

"Lieutenant Oriel? I don't know a Lieutenant Oriel? But I am sure he is a lovely person. You must be mistaking me for somebody else!" he extended his hand to Rath, handing him a data chip containing his orders to come "Lieutenant Paul Gemmell, Imperial Intelligence." spoke the young man, beaming eagerly and setting the lute back in its case hanging at his side. "I've been attached to your retinue by the higher ups just to act as an observer and liason with the rest of Imperial Intelligence. I am sure we will get on fabulously on our adventures!" he offered the bag of sweets to the nice new man he had met "Can I offer you a sweety? I have Lemon drops, sherbert lemons, chocolate honeycomb, coconut mushrooms, all sorts!"

"Do you like Music? I was worried you might get a bit lonely out here on your missions so I brought my Lute so I can brighten up your ship in my downtime. Oh, and I brought H8, he's a M-3PO from the Internal Organization Bureau who is to act in my stead when I am off duty. He's a little cold when you first meet him but I am sure he will warm up once he gets a good oil bath!" H8 stayed to the left behind Paul, carrying his tote bag, giving a slight bow as he was introduced.

(( My bad Jamie. Old flashbacks. Haha. ))

Looking over the man's credentials, Deschain handed them back impassively. It was from men like this Lieutenant Gemmell, whose last name he could hardly mistake the relation of, that the Empire had a bad name. "Lieutenant, I am a busy man and I don't have time to play. Why don't you visit with the captain of this vessel and allow me to continue my work? It turns out better that way for everyone involved and I assure you, your superiors were mistaken in their assessment. I don't need a tag-along passenger and, frankly, there isn't room for one on my vessel."

"My orders specify I am attached to you and your retinue. I am sure we will become besties during our time together." he gave a smile and popped the sweets away. "Let's not be a silly, we can always just commandeer a larger vessel, even I have sufficient authorisation to commandeer a vessel of up to Corvette size. Imperial Intelligence book of regulations, Chapter IV, Section 2, Paragraph 1"

"As you can see I am not just a pretty face." said Paul "But my face has been called pretty by Uncle Greg. As my record points out I am also proficient in Teras Kasai as well as other specialties.. I grew up being educated at all the best schools and was at the Imperial Academy for a while! I have my orders, Sir. And as I mentioned they order me to attach myself to you." he snapped off a fabulously embellished salute of his own devising.

"I can assure you I can be quite useful." spoke the young man, giving a very coy wink.

The High Inquisitor's face, masked as it were by the holographic projection, was twisted in disgust as the man made his final statement. This was obviously some ploy of Gemmell's to get back at Deschain for interfering with the issue of Haran's armor more than likely. Deschain was not going to have any of it. He had more important things to do than pander to this child. "Lieutenant, if all you can commandeer is a vessel of corvette size, then you are of little use in the long run should the need for heavier firepower arise. Regardless, I am partial towards my vessel and it will suffice for myself and Master Haran as it is."

He paused for a moment, digesting the man's resume and then shaking his head from side to side. "You are proficient in martial arts and well-tutored. Good. Go get yourself a posting on a Rim world where Imperial Intelligence is needed. I am hereby altering your orders for you to return to Coruscant until reassignment. Are we clear, Lieutenant?"

"With respect, you should note that my orders bear the countersignature of Director Isard, in who's department you are in the employ. He notes that the Internal Organisation Bureau is not under the purvue of your own.. Section.. Of Imperial Intelligence, for obvious reasons. I am afraid that while you are free to protest to my superiors H8 and I have been posted to your retinue." Paul spoke with a sudden blunt hardness, reminiscent of his Uncle, dropping his sweet and polite facade.

Rath should be aware that he had been recently been seen to be employing highly "questionable" methods of late, and many in the Ruling Council and other personnel aware of his operations (Isard rumoured to be amongst them) had wished to see more oversight of the High Inquisitor. No doubt Rath would be aware of this through his own agents.

After all, the Emperor himself was mindful of what successful and powerful force users might have planned, especially in light of his own ascension to the position of Sith Master through the murder of his predecessor. The notion he would let an force user do the things Rath had planned without observation was risible. No matter how "trustworthy" Rath was, Pelagius had believed Sidious' loyalty to be absolute, and Palpatine was smart enough not to risk as much.

Thusly Paul and H8 had been sent, from the Bureau in charge of investigating spies, rebels and detectors within Imperial Intelligence itself. To observe him and assure he was not what whispers in the shadows rumoured him to be. As such refusing their presence would only add fuel to his detractors fires. Paul was also correct that IntCon was not under the purvue of the Inquisition.

Ah, good. The gloves had come off. Deschain smiled behind the faceless mask. Diplomacy always failed and Deschain was not into the political posturing as much as he was into actual action. At Paul's announcement, Deschain chuckled and flapped his hand at the man, waving him away. "Lieutenant Gemmell, I answer to four people. Three, if truth be told, and Director Isard, accomplished man that he is, has no clue even remotely what my mission is or how I intend to complete it. My authority comes from the highest halls, Lieutenant. You will not be needed here."

Turning about, he strode away from Paul towards the far end of the hangar where Vil Haran had already likely been loaded aboard Deschain's vessel for the journey to his next prison, so to speak. Deschain could care less if he lacked the admiration of all within the Senate. His deeds had proven his loyalty time and time again in the service of the Empire. If Palpatine held doubts, he would have likely called Deschain to task himself, or though a proxy such as Lord Vader or even Grand Vizier Pestage, with whom Deschain worked closely in regards to the missions he undertook. Whether or not Palpatine was smart enough to trust a Force user to do such missions was hardly the issue; Vader himself often went on clandestine projects, and Palpatine regularly granted leniency to the Hands, Reach, Voice and Eyes; all organizations that were lesser to the Inquisitorious itself, which answered to Palpatine himself and, by lesser law, Lord Vader.

Almost to his vessel, Deschain paused for a moment to look back at the rather impotent figure of Lieutenant Paul Gemmell. Perhaps he could relent a bit, but the man would work by his rules, not around them and certainly not superior to them. "Lieutenant, if you're going to come along, I'd suggest securing the extended use of a Lambda shuttle from the captain. I won't have you riding with me, but if you must tag along for a time, you will need your own craft."

Paul smiled at the invitation which had just been sent. "I'll have the shuttle ready immediately" he nodded to a Lieutenant and handed him a requisition slip. "I am sure we are to have a fabulous time!" he clapped. "I'll bake some candy apples aboard the Lambda class and we can have them sent aboard your ship, that should improve morale! So where to Agent Deschain?"

(( Sorry I missed this for so long. ))

Deschain ignored the offered candy apples; he did not partake of such things. Indeed, Deschain was not a cheerful person. "We are meeting with a frigate along the Outer Rim to deposit Vil Haran before continuing on to the next portion of the mission. Ideally, you won't need to tag along, largely because I am going where it would be far too dangerous for you to follow, and also because you lack the proper identification. Imperials are not welcome, so to speak."

"Don't worry. I am good with Danger." said Paul with a smiling face and a warm heart. "We will adventure through danger and peril for the good of the Empire and be back for breakfast! Huzzah!" Paul's shuttle was prepared and awaited in a neighboring hangar.

Deschain noted that Paul had skipped over the fact that he lacked the proper credentials to go where Deschain was going; the might of the Empire did not encompass all places equally one might say, and admitting you were Imperial might well get you killed in such places. Nonetheless, Deschain resolved that letting the man tag along for now might quiet him down.

Boarding his shuttle, he waited until cleared for takeoff and departed the Star Destroyer with his single passenger.

"Master Haran, welcome to your new life. I will brief you on the way so you will know what to expect. Your path is dangerous, but you know this. Do well and we will both benefit. Fail... fail or run and I will come for you personally, and I will make what Park did to you on Felucia look like child's play. Are we understood?"
