| It was late night on the Imperial Center, the lights of the endless city sparkled as Ja’nar walked past what seemed like endless miles of glass windows in the Senate Building. It was only her first day back from an extended leave of absence and Senator Ordan had already brought forth a motion to censure her. She would just shake her head. You censure those who you fear, who have real power, and who people listen to. No one listened to Ja’nar the time of her having friends within the senate had long past, not that it mattered. She was working with borrowed time anyways. Her people who not tolerate what was happening for much longer and she could not really blame them for that. They were growing tired of the Senate and the new rules and taxes that were always being voted on. They were an independent people, much like Ja’nar was and this was not for them anymore. But Ja’nar had to hold on, she had to keep up appearances within the Senate. There were always excuses of why she was gone. She was a queen and a mother. Those were the only two excuses she needed to have.
It was easy to hide some things from others, she was a master at it by this point in her life. The scars she wore that no one ever saw, not even the man whom she had loved so dearly. But these new ones were harder to hide, her broken hand that was wrapped in black starsilk. She still hadn’t seen her doctor and now knew she wouldn’t for some time. She wore fairly large cuff bracelets this evening to hide the cuts and bruises on wrists. She had been on quite an adventure after leaving Naboo. She had ventured out to Tatoonie, a place she normally would never had visited but a clue had lead her there. She had come up empty handed though and hurt. She had fallen it a trap that was well thought out at first, but as the weeks progressed had lost its sparkle and she had found an escape. It was not hard to buy off kidnappers, especially when you had endless funds. She had even received a ride back to civilization with them. It hadn’t been all bad. She had bought some friends that could be very helpful to her later on.
But this evening, she was just walking. Her mind racing with all the things she still needed to do. One of those being going home and getting some much needed rest. But rest wouldn’t come yet. She needed to talk to a number of people and the first one on her list this evening was Artemis Vanden, the representative for Naboo. The two of them had a history and sadly the time she had spent with him were the happiest she had in her life until her son. But now she had business with him. That was what their relationship was now days, just business. No matter how much Ja’nar had hoped for more, it would never happen. She could see that in his eyes, how he tensed when she moved into a room.
She was hoping he would still be in this evening. He usually worked late like she did, but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t spending some time on Naboo or elsewhere. She moved up to his office door and knocked on it, taking in a deep breath as she brushed her hands over the delicate cream colored fabric of her gown, just waiting.

| Artemis, in contrast to Ja'nar, was at peace this evening. There was a time—a long time—when this was rare for him, but it seemed to have become more common in recent weeks, as had his sojourns to Naboo. In the months since Moira had died and Davon had disappeared, he had found that Naboo was no longer the comforting place it had once been; indeed, it seemed too often it simply reminded him of times lost to him. Now, however, he found it comforting that someone was there in his cavernous estate in the Lake Country, waiting for him on his return and bringing a certain life to a place he had come to associate with death and loss. He referred, of course, to his caretaker Ana. The difference in their ages was scandalous, but while he did let himself entertain scandalous thoughts from time to time, the fact was that his relationship with her (if it could be described as a "relationship") was something more than romantic—she listened to Artemis and understood him, and he in turn was protective of her and her innocence.
He had been protective of Ja'nar once, too. He still was, he supposed; after all, he had come to her defense in a frivolous censure motion against her as recently as this afternoon. But she carried with her emotional wounds that even Artemis seemed unable to heal, or even to understand as she had become distant from him in the months since their intimate encounters here on Coruscant some 2 years ago. Artemis could have tried harder to understand, but in those painful and pensive months following Moira's passing he simply couldn't bring himself to become as attached to another woman as he had been to her for most of his life—he feared losing Ja'nar too, who, for all her compassion and generosity of spirit, seemed to be a falling star that burned too brightly and was doomed to disappear. They had gone their separate ways, and though he was still concerned for her when she was ambushed in the Senate or snared in some "scandal," she tended not to occupy his thoughts as she once had.
On this particular night, as on most nights, he had been working late in his office when, some moments ago, he decided to close his eyes and rest. Vanden's Gungan secretary had gone home for the night, and there would be no response as Ja'nar knocked on the door, which was open, but if she were to peer inside she would find Artemis in his chair facing out his large office window, his eyes closed, his hands clasped together in his lap. His office was already a serene one with its evocations of Naboo's pastures, but seemed all the more so with Artemis asleep and the only noise in the room the soothing sound of running water in the reflecting pool he had fashioned outside the window.

| There was not answer as she knocked on the door but it was left ajar so she peeked in and spotted Artemis working like usual. She would smile a bit as she watched him for a few moments before moving into his office, the smile a little less sure as she knocked on the door frame softly, as not to startle him, "Hey there" she would step inside the inner office, her eyes scanning the area quickly, she had become more and more paranoid in the last few weeks, especially with her recent return to the Imperial Center after weeks of missing her duties there and on her planet. Her people never truly questioned it. She had the elders which could run everything well when she was not needed or was on a fools errand, like she was this time. Tatoonie, she would just shake her head slightly as she moved clsoer to his desk, "I wanted to apologize about our last meeting on Naboo, Its not that I try to avoid you obiviously, but I don't like encrouching on your home time" she would smile weakly to him, as her gaze went out the window.
