Freighters from the Vjun Science Commission exited hyperspace, escorted by a few fighters and began to erect a Deep Space Sensor Array on the Border of the Cronese Mandate, allowing it to monitor travel along the Perlamian and in theory monitor the space around generally. It was 1km from the Border of Cronese Space and did not trespass upon it.

It began to be slowly assembled piece by piece, two gun emplacements were erected also. The purpose of the expedition was to measure the travel along the Perlamian in order to make a survey of traffic to help diffuse the Galactic problem of trade route congestion.

When the attack came, it would be a surprise, likely to both sides, though one side was certainly better prepared than the other. The Munificent-class frigate Shield had emerged from hyperspace, shields up and weapons hot, with the intent of finding a Cronese Mandate patrol. They broadcast no IFF, but it was still a surprise to see a partially-completed sensor array less than three kilometers in front of them. Any target was a target, according to Shiva's terms of engagement and plans, and as such, they saw no reason not to open fire.

The prow heavy turbolaser cannons with their incredible fire opened up a split second before the long-range ion cannons, targeting the sensor array itself. Ten of the twin turbolaser cannons opened fire towards the pair of gun emplacements, which an additional ten as well as eight of the light turbolaser turrets strafed the freighters still unpacking what was left to assemble of the station. Even as it fired, the ship was maneuvering back into space, hyperdrive spinning up and preparing to jump away, hopefully without incident.

The station, uncompleted had a section blasted away from it, the gun emplacements survived albeit barely. Clearly more forces would be needed to defend the failure in future. Thankfully the research staff had not arrive yet the the destroyed section of struts was replaceable, but the insult was huge. The freighters carrying the rest f the station made emergency jumps away before returning once security arrived.

The fighters gave chase and fired a few torpedoes, they were on a busy shopping lane so aid would be there soon, the distress signal having been automatically sent.. This looked like an unprovoked attack from the Mandate.

From Vjun a pair of Consular-class Corvettes were dispatched to the area with the Golan station with its dozen hyperspace tugs attached and it's 36 Strike Fighters, Vjun was not halt civilians had been killed and was now reacting with overwhelming force.

Only one or two of the torpedoes would impact the shields; the vessel's point-defense cannons and flak cannons made short work of the others. If they'd remained, they likely could have given the fighters, freighters and gun emplacements a hell of a time, but threat of force from the Cronese Mandate sent them off. Ideally, Imperials would respond to this attack now. And so, with much less pomp than when it arrived, the Shield slipped to hyperspace.

The Munificent Class Star Frigate Shield wouldn't get it's chance to flee, before it could even make its way towards a hyperspace jump point, it would find itself under heavy fire from a Keldabe Class Battleships's Heavy Ion Cannons, the large Battleship, broadcasting its IFF as the Vigilance. The large battleship was escorted by its own Star Frigate, it's IFF being broadcasted as the Helena. The two ships locked onto the Star Frigate that was attacking the station being set up, the same station that had caused the fleet to move so close to the border to ensure that it was nothing other than what it was claimed to be. The Vigilance move to place itself between the damaged station and the enemy Star Frigate, the Helena took aim, locking onto the enemies engines and began to unleash a heavy barrage of turbolaser fire to knock them out, it also helped that the two vessels didn't come alone.

The enemy vessel would soon enough find itself being swarmed by a squadron of Z-95 Headhunters, their concussion missiles slamming against the vessel and tearing at its shields and hull as they broke up before once more swinging around for another attack after the Vigilance and Helena unleashed another wave of fire. Coming up behind the Vigilance were two Nebulon-B Frigates, the captain of which hailed the station to see if anyone had been on the station and needed assistant, although he hoped that no one had been there. The timely arrival of the Cronese Mandate fleet proved that the attack was not coming from their end, had it been, they why would they bother with stepping in.

Assuming somehow that the majority of the Cronese Mandate's defense fleet was indeed stationed at that exact point at that exact time, they were still on the Cronese Mandate side of the border. Even if they were up directly on the invisible line, so to speak, it was still a kilometer to the station and another 2.9 kilometers to where the Shield had emerged from. This was not to mention that a host of freighters, Vjun fighters and indeed, the station itself would obscure an easy shot from the Cronese vessels. Now, by the time they could engage thrusters to maneuvering speed and get the momentum built up, the Shield was already heading outbound. With the rear shields fully intensified, as well as all power drained from the heavy turbolasers and long-range ion cannon into shields and engines, the ship would be already outdistancing any pursuit. Sending Z-95s with concussion missiles was simply a joke though; thirty-eight point-defense laser cannon and eight flak cannons made short work of the majority of the missiles, while the Z-95s would come under fire from the rearward weapon systems.

The Shield was not unscathed though; while the ion cannons had not been able to bring much to bear, largely due to obstruction, the barrage from the turbolasers did cause damage to the port-side laser. However, this did not damage the hyperdrive, which still engaged just the same. The brief raid was over, and it could still well be questionable as to whether or not the Mandate had made an assault or not.

The Vjunites would have fled for now - no further input from me.

The fact that the Cronese Mandate's own Star Frigate was broadcasting its IFF signal as the Helena made it clear that it was in fact not an assault by the Cronese Mandate, due to the simple fact that on record, as well as in proof, the Cronese Mandate had only one Munificent Star Frigate. As the unknown vessel jumped away, the remainder of the Cronese Fleet saw to the station that had been damaged, once more questioning if anyone had been on the station during the attack. From the Cronese Mandate would come their own repair ships to see to the reconstruction of the station.

Some hours later the Vjunites returned, and awaited the inbound corvettes and Golan Station being dispatched to their aid.

The Vigilance and Helena, along with the Z-95 Headhunter squadron would remain on site as a temporary security force until the Vjun vessels arrive, the Nebulon-B Frigates also remaining on the scene after they ensured that there had been no one on the station that was either trapped, in dager, in need of medical attention or possibly dead.

The Vjunites deployed their space station at the border of the Cronese Mandate, defended now by a Golan I station, standing lethally as a reminder to any who might attack the Vjunites what the penalty would be. The Vjunites kept up bomber and fighter patrols in the area and seemed on a war footing (after the previous attack).

It would be noted by the Cronese that:

1. Vjun now had a sensor station able to reach deep into their space and monitor their movements etc.
2. Vjun now had a powerful battlestation on their border.
3. Vjun now had several strikefighters and two squadrons of bombers within easy range of Cronese Space.
