| "Well Mr. Vaughn, that wraps up the paperwork. I'm sorry again for your loss."
"Thank you for the ease of the paperwork, Mr. Planton. It's... it's a hard thing to come home to this. I only wish I could have been here. Maybe then... maybe they'd still be alive."
Joel Planton, attorney, patted Darius' shoulder in as comforting a manner as he could. "The police are still searching for the killers, Mr. Vaughn. I'm sure if they're on-world, they will be found. Take care of yourself." Closing a briefcase stamped with 'Planton & Roher' on the side, the portly attorney waddled out the front door of the Vaughn manse, heading for the monorail transport. In the quiet of the house, for the servants had been given leave, Vaughn rubbed his tired eyes. Having returned from the Outer Rim where he'd been prospecting, the greeting he'd received had been terrible indeed. The murder of his family, part of a robbery, so the authorities had told him, left him as the sole surviving heir to the Vaughn fortunes, as well as Vaughn Shipping and Vaughn Mining.
His first act, even before the papers had been signed, had been to ensure the workers and foremen that the companies would continue to operate as they had before. He'd given the foremen and managers more power and freedom to run the companies on a day-to-day basis while he recovered and took care of family duties within the Vaughn compound. He did not feel safe on Tantra, that was for sure; it hung on the back of his mind that his family had been killed because of his connection to the Libs. He would have to sort this out further.
