Returning to Duty

| A small fighter sized craft, sporting the codes of an Inquisitor, was cleared to land on the Imperial Center. The pilot couldn't help but become a little excited about the message that he had received from the High Inquisitor. Part of him knew that this could back fire on him, but he knew that if he had read the message correctly, there could possibly be a new job for him to do.
The Inquisitor would have changed since the last time High Inquisitor Deschain had seen him. He now wore a mask while working. It took away any and all emotion from him doing his work. He had in a way taken the idea from the High Inquisitor, but it was a smart idea. To go along with the mask, there would be a few other ideas that he would attempt to bring up while speaking with his superior.
The small craft landed down in the landing bay. He hadn't been given any direction on what to do or even where to go. It was just to simply return to Imperial Center and here he had done just that.
Kal had exited the craft and stood there for a moment, soaking up the dreary weather that would bring depression to a good amount of the planet's residents. That same depression brought on strength and a bit more excitement.

| The landing bay into which Thanatos landed and then exited would be empty, save for three beings. Rath Deschain was there to greet Thanatos; faceless as always, flanked on either side and two paces back by a pair of red-armored Purifiers. Deschain noted the obvious change in the man immediately; the mask was an obvious addition. Idly, Deschain wondered what brought about the use, then dismissed the thought. Thanatos' reasons were of no concern to Deschain. The damp weather was indeed rather noticeable on this particular day, and it was only fitting as the task Deschain had in mind was unpleasant.
"Inquisitor Thanatos. A pleasure to have you back. I trust your assignments have treated you well? You are alive, after all, and seem to be holding all limbs intact. Walk with me, Inquisitor. We have much to discuss."

| He would notice the High Inquisitor and the pair of red-armored Purifiers that were assigned to the Inquisitor. Last time he had seen a sight similar to this, he was being arrested and transported to be tortured, turned and made into one of the Empire's Inquisitors.
It couldn't have been a good site for anyone to see two of these secretive agents walking together. His head would turn to the faceless man, nodding slightly to him.
"I wouldn't say they've treated me well...but as you said, I am alive and intact." He would pause for a moment, wondering what it was that the two of them had to discuss.
"There is much to discuss. What was it that you were needing to speak with me about today, sir?"

| Beginning to walk a circular route around the docking bay, Deschain gave the Purifiers a discrete gesture and they fell back to post up on either side of the bay's entry, leaving room for Deschain and Thanatos to walk without being followed. The docking bay was large enough to accommodate Deschain's purpose while remaining safe from prying ears and eyes; he'd made sure of that much at least. "There is corruption in the Empire, Thanatos. Inquisitor Sturn, our order's Apostate, who has not been found. Inquisitor Animus, an embarrassment to our order and a bumbler. There are others, Thanatos, so many others, and not just in the Inquisitorious. Word reaches me of duplicity and questionable nature of Moffs, this Verilia. Even Senators."
Deschain fell silent for a long moment as they walked; a slow, sedate pace. "The Senators are some of the worst of the lot. There are some that need... a personal touch, and I have not the time to do it. Senator Ryunn of Druckenwell, Senator Domon of Sluis Van, Senator Fowlkes of Telos IV... and one more. Senator Ilanah Thanatos of Chandrila. A curious thing, Inquisitor. Thanatos. It's not a very common last name."

| He would follow along the left side of Deschain, right where a subordinate should walk when with their superior. The High Inquisitor had some interesting words. He knew that there were a few that were corrupt and that there had to have been more.
He would look at Deschain, "Some people can't deal with change or as for the case with our fellow Inquisitors, they can't deal with failure, like Animus." He would pause a moment before moving on to the other groups of the government that were mentioned.
"I would not doubt Verilia has other motives with his position, as could some of his peers, but the Senators...." Now that he had moved onto that, he had to come out with it. There was nothing wrong with what they had done. He hadn't read of anything that wouldn't allow them to be wed.
"You are correct, it isn't a very common last name. Senator Thanatos and I were married shortly after you showed me the truth and steered me down the right path. Her and I were first wed back before the Republic was betrayed by the Jedi. She quickly divorced me as soon as she had heard that I was involved in that betrayal back then. Her and I met again upon my return back here after my arrest and we became married once again."
"Trust me, I've got my eyes on the Senators as much as I possibly can. Senator Fowlkes is around often, but he's nothing to worry about, as is my spouse. As for the other two you've listed, I haven't had much interaction with them..." He would stop, getting an idea.
"Is there a reason you bring these names up? Are you needing someone to watch them, or further investigate suspicions?"

| "Verilia and the Inquisitors aren't my primary worry, Thanatos."
Deschain fell silent for a dozen more steps before speaking up again. "My network is large, but not as large as I wish it to be. Your honesty has served you well here, for I had ordered a full background investigation on you when I noted the interesting similarity with your last names. Indeed, it is so obvious and open which is why many have not caught on to it.
"But I digress. There are groups sprouting around the galaxy, Thanatos. Rebellious groups too well organized and funded to be simple warriors left over with grudges against the Empire. There is a founding force backing them. There are several Senators I have already discounted, largely because they are too tied to the Empire to be foolish enough to risk what they have. Others are idealists. Domon is an alien. He has supported the Empire... but I have my doubts. Ryuun changes his mind far too much and his policies... some of them are questionable. Your wife and Fowlkes, though... they have been seen by many as holding conflicting views. The liberals who support less than they should. That Vanden fellow from Naboo as well.
"I want them watched, Thanatos. I want answers. I need proof before I can go ahead and make a move. She may be your wife, but you are sworn to uphold the ideals and safety of the Empire. I trust you will not hesitate to act if she is somehow a threat to the security of all those under the Emperor's protection."

| His eyes behind the mask would look at Deschain as he would walk along side him. He remained silent for a moment. He could understand how his fellow Inquisitor would come to the one person that could get the closest to both his wife and Tremaine. His head slowly gave him a nod, showing him that he would follow the orders that he had been given.
"I did swear to uphold the ideals and safety of the Empire and I will do as you wish. My eyes will always be looking for suspicious activities from them and any other Senators that I come across. If I do find anything, I will not hesitate to inform you of the information."
"There are a few other things that I have been wanting to speak with you about, if there was nothing more, sir."

| Satisfied for the moment, despite the momentary feel that something was slightly out of place; a feeling the High Inquisitor ignored for now, Deschain was willing to indulge his companion. "But of course, Inquisitor Thanatos. I am here to aid and guide you in the path you walk as much as the all-knowing Emperor guides us all. Ask what you will, and if I am capable of answering your query, then I shall be glad to do so."

| He was a little hesitant about asking this of the High Inquisitor, knowing mostly what the answer could more than likely be. His head would turn forward before slowly turning to face his superior once more.
"I am wanting to serve the Empire, the Inquisitorious and mainly the Emperor, as greatly as I can. That is why I ask this. Firstly, I am wanting to have a a Squadron of Stormtroopers assigned under my command. Not just any troopers either, I want the squadron of troopers I once commanded. The Hotel Squadron. They were a loyal group of clones that fought bravely. I know that they are still in service and would like to have them under my command when needed."
"Secondly, sir, I want to know what it takes to rise to the title of High Inquisitor or even Chief Inquisitor. What does it take?"

| Deschain half-turned his head to regard Thanatos with silent amusement. The man had ambition. Good. He wanted advancement. Good. He could also be dangerously power hungry. Well, Deschain could turn that last to his advantage. "An Inquisitor's power is in requisition, Thanatos. It is not standard for any large vessel or squadron to be placed on loan to any Inquisitor. Instead, any tool, from the lowest stormtrooper squad to the powerful Star Destroyers, is ours when we need it for that purpose. My advice though, would be to requisition a squad of stormtroopers if you need the extra muscle. This... Hotel Squadron? Keep your distance. Kal Thanatos the Jedi is supposed to be dead, after all. Besides, you need to get with the present times. Clones are out. The stormtrooper corps is in.
"But ranking? Chief Inquisitor would be where you should set your eyes for now. You have a long way and time to go before making High Inquisitor. Bring in some Jedi, Thanatos. Dead if they must be; alive and able to be turned would be better. Uncover some plots and begin making a name for yourself. Your deeds will decide how quickly I place a recommendation for promotion, or how quickly others will notice you."

| The High Inquisitor had a point. He wasn't the same person that had served in the Clone Wars along side those Clones, and times were changing. He did, however, like the loyalty the Clones provided to their commanders.
"Interesting. That makes things a lot easier."
"Then I will begin to make a name for myself, starting with keeping an eye on the Senators. It will be easier with the gathering that is upcoming on Lorrd. If there is anything happening, I can find out there."
He would pause for a second, looking at his superior, "Is there anything else?"

| "Be present, if you can, at this gathering. I am sure that there will be wagging tongues. Be watchful, Inquisitor, but do not break the cover of what you are. Many will suspect you of being an Imperial lackey. Do your best to simper and seem brainless, but take any advantage you can." Deschain nodded to himself. The younger man would have enough on his plate with finding problems among the senators. Deschain, meanwhile, had other business to attend to. "That will be all, Inquisitor. Good hunting, and may the Emperor's will guide you."

| "I've already got a cover going and that will be hard to break. I will find out all I can and report back." He would nod to his superior as he would dismiss him to begin on the assignment that he had been given.
"And may that Emperor's will guide you as well..."
With that, Kal would break off from the Deschain and head for the exit. He wouldn't bother to look back, nor did he need to. He knew what he needed to do and would do what ever it would take to prove himself and begin making a name for himself.
