Once the Star Petal had left hyperspace en-route to Imperial Center she had reviewed the news on the holo-net and after sending a quick message to Senator Ray of Dantooine imploring him to introduce the semblance of justice to the proceedings related to the Deralian soldiers they had captured on their world, and then once Captain Tiyr had come down to her quarters to tell her they would be landing shortly, she had taken the time to shower, change and pack her satchel brief case.

In the satchel, she placed the blood red leather-bound book that Mr. Winter had given her. She'd read it over the duration of the trip, and had decided that it was among several things an odd gift for the man to have given her considering they had just met and if it was supposed to be some kind of hint, well that was preposterous - how could he know about her gift? And the book contained little of note, a history collected that had most of the same facts were usually available to Tetan school children, with perhaps more of the esoteric than the schools were allowed to teach.

She placed the folder that Mr. Winter had given her of his proposal to start the manufacturing and shipping plant on a Tetan world, and within that she placed the handwritten communications he had sent her to initially make contact with her. She had her travel logs from her most recent trip in the satchel as well.

Then the diplomatic red vessel landed and she stepped out of her quarters in the salon pod and as the crew went about making the ship fast, she dismissed the rest of the staff except for Dandric, who she instructed to fetch the airspeeder kept near the Star Petal's landing pad and who would drive her to the grounds of the Imperial Palace, where she was to meet with Moff Rainier Brandt.

Dandric Lewellyn set the airspeeder down not far from the Moff's office, and Avadrie climbed out with her satchel slung over one shoulder and made her way to the Moff's office. Her plan was to meet with the Moff, inform him of the events related to her meeting with Mr. Winter and then ask for his assistance in monitoring the situation; her reasons for this was two fold, while it might seem somehow dependent of her to be asking a Moff, and not even the Empress Teta sector Moff for assistance in this matter - but that was part of her design. Anyone who knew anything, knew that Moff Brandt ran Imperial Center, and if she wanted protection of any kind if she were ever found out - what better place to hide than in Moff Brandt's good graces, and after all - what man didn't want to help a beautiful young woman asking for help?

She'd approach the front door to his office and reach out a hand, open the door and step inside.

She stepped inside the atrium of the Moff's office, closing the door behind her as she glanced once out through the glass panel before turning her attention to the inside of the office. His Excellency's secretary and staff must have already left for the night, she glanced at the chrono on her wrist and took note of the advanced hour before she stepped further into the building, looking for where the Moff's office would ostensibly be.

Brandt was nowhere to be seen in his office, though it exhibited some signs of recent habitation; the room opened onto a balcony where a table could be seen adorned with empty glasses and a mostly empty bottle of brandy. The chairs around the table had been pushed out and not back in, and the ice in some of the glasses wasn't quite melted; Brandt and company had been here a moment ago, it seemed. Inside, the office itself was a curious mix of spartan Imperial aesthetics—a heavy, grey desk and matching chairs, for instance—and the occasional work of art that seemed out of place. The themes in the paintings and sculptures were disparate; either they'd been given to the Moff as gifts or he valued art by its price tag only. Well, not only—many of the works had, well, Dionysian themes.

The lights were dim, but brightened suddenly as a figure entered the room a moment later. It was Brandt, replete in his uniform as usual, but with the collar open. He smiled as he nodded in greeting to the Senator. "Senator volFyr, good evening," he said cheerfully, seeming to enjoy pronouncing her name. "I was seeing some guests out," he explained, "I hope you've not been waiting long." It was indeed late on Imperial Center, far later than on Empress Teta. But Avadrie's message had intrigued Brandt and he had been willing to accommodate her schedule and meet with her upon her return here. And since he was staying late, it seemed he had decided to make an evening of it and host a few of his colleagues. He was in good spirits, and good spirits were apparently in him too (assuming from the faint smell of cognac on his breath).

"Have a seat, please," he insisted, gesturing her toward his desk. He followed behind her, his eyes discreetly lingering on her for a moment as he then rounded his desk and seated himself behind it. The desk was substantial but, for whatever reason, didn't make him appear small. It succeeded in conveying his authority, which, on Imperial Center, was substantial indeed; he commanded the army and the police, for one thing, but he was also so close to the Imperial Court he might as well have been a courtier himself. Imperial Center was the heart of the Empire, and Brandt had his finger on its pulse.

From across his desk he looked at Avadrie with eyes that had delighted in the sight of many an execution by firing squad, but at this moment contained only mirth and some earnest concern for her, too. "It's a pleasure to meet you at long last," he said, "Unfortunate that it must be under these circumstances 'you fear are quite urgent,' however." He invoked her words from their correspondence of some days ago, betraying the fact he had an encyclopedic memory that was in no way impaired by an evening of casual drinking. If anything, it only sharpened his senses (albeit at the cost of some inhibitions).

"I really must apologize your excellency." She started, appearing quite sincerely to be somewhat flustered by it all, quite a departure from her usually composed and demure presence within the Senate.

"But what's happened just appears to be very out of the ordinary, and with everything else going on in the galaxy I don't want to get caught up in something bigger than I can handle." Her bearing and demeanor (at least she'd like to think) were a more than healthy mixture of genuine anxiety and guile (more so anxiety, given the circumstances - for all her plots and cunning, actually sitting in front of Moff Brandt was rather intimidating). She sat down in the chair in front of his desk with her satchel in her lap and she fumbled through it, her hands visibly shaking as she dug for the leather bound red book and the folded up handwritten letter that Mr. Winter had sent her.

She'd tightly shut her eyes and take a long, deep breath and after a few moments the nervous shaking would subside and her bright green eyes would open up again and somewhat more composed she would lean forward and place the red leather bound book and the handwritten note atop it on Rainier's desk. She'd lean back against the frame of the chair she was sitting in, forcing her hands to her lap before she spoke to explain,

"I received that note from that Mr. Winter at my office here on Imperial Center, which was odd because any other business would simply contact my office officially to request favors like this one, and then he had me meet him on Aargau, which we both know is the safest place for rogue elements to do business and it was all very cloak and dagger and then he gave me that book and " and she realized that she hadn't given the folder with Mr. Winter's business proposal over to the Moff, she dug in her satchel again and shaking again managed to drop it onto the floor.

"Oh I'm so sorry!" She exclaimed as she immediately slid out of the chair and was on her hands and knees picking up the now scattered papers and putting them back into the folder.

"I'm not such a klutz I swear.." She breathed out hurriedly,

"Its just he gave me that book, and its just so strange a gift to give someone on first meeting and with everything else about him, I'm just scared. What if some kind of Jedi is after me or wants to do something to my sector? I don't want the Empire to think I have anything to do with anything like this!" She got back up off of the floor then, having put the papers of Mr. Winter's business proposal back into order and set them on Rainier's desk next to the other items, as she seemed to have again regained something akin to her composure,

"My staff tells me that all these forms are in proper publication, but it just doesn't seem right. What can I do?" And her gaze drifted to the mostly empty bottle of brandy - it wasn't her usual drink of choice, but at the moment anything that might settle her nerves seemed more than appealing.

As the Senator had placed the book and note on Brandt's desk for his scrutiny, he'd produced an ornate stylus that also functioned as a letter opener and used it to pull the documents across the desk to him. "Hmm," he said. A book of Krath spells? It was strange indeed, and the note from "Mr. Winter" was suspect also. But the Moff couldn't quite drag his attention away from volFyr.

He noticed that the Senator was, well. Flustered. It occurred to him that this was quite unlike her usual composure that he'd observed (with something more than casual interest) on prior occasions in the Senate. He wondered for the briefest of moments if he found her less attractive as a result of this, and decided that no, he did not. In fact, as she gathered the papers she'd dropped on the floor, he couldn't help but admire with raised brow the way her sweater dress complimented her figure.

He stood, of course, set down the stylus and rounded his desk to assist her; he gathered a few of the stray papers and handed them to her, then placed a hand on her arm, near the shoulder, to help her back to her chair. "It's quite all right," he assured her. Indeed, he let himself suppose that the Senator was simply intimidated by the accoutrements of he and his office—most were. His hand remaining where it was a bit longer than it needed to, he'd been about to offer some words of assurance when he followed her gaze to the bottle of brandy outside on the balcony. An even better idea than usual, he thought. "Would you care for a drink?" he said, not quite a question. Indeed, he'd already made his way to the liquor cabinet beside his desk (he was, dare it be said, 'religious' about a bottle of brandy. He believed that a bottle opened for a certain occasion belonged to that occasion only, and that it was against some inviolable inebriate's commandment to use the same one again).

"It's strange indeed," Brandt said, returning to the subject at hand as he prepared a pair of drinks with his back to volFyr. "You're right to be suspicious. 'Thordin Winter' is an alias, I suspect. No background to check I suppose, but we must be thorough. I'd assume he's a tax evader, except for this business about meeting on a 'neutral' planet. 'Home field advantage,'" he mused, "He doesn't consider the Empire his 'home,' then." And there must be a reason for this, he supposed, or else 'Mr. Winter' would go through the public channels. He was no simple businessman, that was sure. He had something to hide.

This was getting interesting.

Brandt turned, a drink in each hand, and smiled. Scotch and soda for a change. He made his strong and hers less so, but instantly forgot which was which. He handed one of them to her (if she didn't protest, that is) and half sat on her side of his desk. He snatched his stylus, used it to stir his drink and thus exhibited another of its many functions, then shook it in the air and used it to slide the business proposal to him for his perusal as he sipped his drink. "What was your impression of him?" he asked as he read, "Did he say anything that indi—indicate, pardon—that gave away where he's from?"

It's working. She thought as his hand lingered on her shoulder for several moments as he helped her up and back into her chair, and of course the sweater dress had been carefully chosen for this occasion. This, as she mentally forced herself back into the act that she had rehearsed (that of the flustered, near helpless woman) got her back up and into the chair with his help, her hands only trembling slightly. (She was honestly quite nervous about it all) What put her most at odds with the situation was the change in power dynamics between herself and Rainier - he was a man who quite simply was very powerful within the Empire, and while Avadrie had made it something of an art to manipulate powerful men on Empress Teta - the Moff of Imperial Center was a different thing entirely.

"Oh, thank you." She said almost numbly as he handed her the drink. She took it with both hands, at first afraid that she might genuinely be shaking enough to spill it and appear even more the klutz than she already had, once she was confident that she had corralled her nerves enough for the moment, she took a long sip from the glass before finding a coaster laid about on the Moff's desk and setting it down and turning her attention back to Rainier.

"He had me meet him at the Warmherth Cafe on Aargau, I hadn't thought of it before but maybe they had security cameras and we could get them and compare him to the Empire's database, and he also gave me this." And she leaned forward towards where Rainier was sitting, her hands stretching out to the leather bound red book as she flipped to the back cover, on the inside of which she had written the coordinates to the 'secure channel to reach me' that Mr. Winter had given her as they closed up their discussion on Aargau.

"He told me that would be a secure channel through which I could reach him - something about not wanting his competitors to find out that he was in business with a Deep Core world, having to think about the lives and finances of his employees and their families. Is the Outer Rim so brutal that business negotiations would incite such concern for one's employees? It just doesn't seem right." She reached for the glass again and took a longer draft of it (and Rainier would be quite pleased if he knew that he had in fact given her the stronger drink)

About half her drink gone (she either had the intent of getting herself tipsy or was just that frazzled), she set it back down and looked to Rainier.

"I can't think of anything that gave away anything in particular about where's from, but he talked so much about the outer rim, and having me meet him on Aargau, it just seems as if he's some sort of criminal. I'm now surprised that he didn't try to have me kidnapped or something worse."
