New Design From Sluis Van Shipyards Shows Promise

Earlier this week, Sluis Van Shipyards, in conjunction with engineers from Acherin, unveiled the new and improved C-9979-A transport. Notable during the Clone Wars as a transport for Separatist battle droids, the C-9979 will now enjoy a new lease on life as the C-9979-A cargo transport, capable of handling loads larger than most comparable freighters and only costing a fraction of the price. Senator Draken Tu'Rot, Acherin, hailed the new design as "one superb cargo vessel," with Acherin purchasing the first ten models to roll off the production line.

Despite negative commentary earlier in the week from Brentaalian analysts, citing the redesigned cargo ship's loss of original capacity as a drawback, project manager Ronald Meeker responded with, "Of course there are some drawbacks. That's what happens when we take these things to the drawing board. What some people don't realize is that the C-9979-A was designed to reduce the necessity of escorts while still ensuring the ship, crew and cargo are protected. It's all about cost efficiency." Sales of the C-9979-A are expected to rise in the near future.

Profits Up For Sluis Van Shipyards

Quarterly profits are on the rise for Sluis Van Shipyards, whose sales of Influence-class shuttles and Reliant-class short-haul landing craft have exceeded the original expectations. Common among smaller business predominantly, the shuttle and landing craft designs are rapidly becoming a feature of larger corporations seeking quality and low-cost vessels for their multipurpose needs. "We didn't anticipate such high sales," stated Rhiss Lissk, project manager on both Influence and Reliant designs. "Unfortunately, we haven't managed to find much of a military market for either craft." Of course, the recent sales of Sluis Van Shipyards' Intrepid-class corvette have appeared to balance their military contracts, with a number of corvettes being found across the Outer Rim, with one of the most recent purchases going to Vjun.

Despite declining sales of the Calix I space stations produced earlier in the year, Sluis Van Shipyards notes profits are up by 6% over their last quarter.

Slanderous Poster Hits Sluis Sector

In recent days, the human population of the Sluis Sector was bombarded by a slanderous message, paid for by the so-called Committee for the Removal of Lizard Worm Monsters from Power. The so-called committee seeks to create an apparent rift between the Human and Sluissi cultures within the Sluis Sector. "Why do people seem to think we dislike the Sluissi?" This statement came from business owner Michael Krafton, from Sluis Van. Mr. Krafton went on to say, "Humans are not underrepresented within the Sluis Sector. If anything, the Sluissi have employed large numbers of humans within their shipyards and numerous other areas. As long as the being representing us is fair and has our best interests in mind, we could be just fine with it being human or Sluissi."

Investigations are ongoing into the source of this committee, which so far does not seem to exist in any official or unofficial area, leading many to believe it is simply a hoax perpetrated by anti-alien humanist groups.

Brentaal's Motives Questioned On Praesitlyn

Within the last 48 hours, a Brentaalian warship along with several transports have made planetfall on Praesitlyn. Praesitlyn, still recovering from the Clone Wars, sees a large trade in timber and natural resources, leading some to suspect that Brentaal intends to commence large-scale mining operations on the planet. When asked, Sluissi resident Kssk Yassh stated "Brentaal sends humans and Givins who have been sniffing around more than our unowned land; they're getting interested in peoples' private property and even locally-owned lumber mills! It's making a lot of folks nervous." Mr. Yassh's statement was backed up by a number of Praesitlyn's human residents, who feel that Brentaal's aggressive entry will threaten jobs planet-wide, as well as the ecosystem. Sluis Sector News will follow this story as it continues to develop.
