It was their home, and they were not about to let the Empire take it from them. Bar stood silently as he watched his men, a task force pulled together that was making its way towards a listening post near the swamp. It was one of the many forward operating bases that had been established on the world, and it was here they would make their first strike, make their voices heard. The one thing that the Empire never seemed to understand, was to never underestimate the native populace of a world, a mistake that was about to be shown as Tenko stood on a nearby ridge. In the cool morning air, if one listened, one would hear the creaking of wheels, large wagons pulled by powerful animals moved the captured AATs into place, four of them set up in a firing line. They were some of the most powerful weapons the Gungans had, and Tenko was mindful of the precious fuel they had.

The large animals where moved away from the wagons, pulled to the back and once more hooked to them. This way they'd be able to move the tanks, as well as keep the animals safe should the Empire send anything into the swamp. Tenko knew the moment was at hand, the morning sun began to rise, the mist clinging to the ground as the outline of the forward operating base came into sight. With a swift movement of his hand, the signal was given. The barrels of the AATs slowly leveled at their targets, taking aim as the shells where loaded into the launchers, their main cannons ready as the crews stood be.

It was only when Tenko's arm dropped to his side was the order followed. The quiet morning was quickly shattered as a blaring scream tore through the mist. A heavy volley of laser cannon fire from the AATs main gun tore through the duracrete of the forward operating base, followed by the thunderous explosions of the high explosive rounds fired from the launchers on the AAT. Tenko stood on the ridge as he watched, directing the fire of the AATs on target as they tore into the Imperial base.

The outpost, a Delvin Constructs MilBar C-427 which had been converted for use as a listening post, Forward Operating Site Nightspider, sat nestled into the ridge opposite the one Tenko was observing from. It was near Gungan territory, in fact part of the guiding effort of a planned incursion into Lianorm Swamp, and the forward most Imperial base in regards to the main lands of the Gungans; its mission being to track the movements of the Gungan Resistance. It was occupied by a Scout Platoon, ten mounted and eighteen dismounted Scout Troopers, all of whom were fitted as Swamptroopers. A detachment of armor, two AT-STs, also sat within the "courtyard" of the building, while an Intelligence team worked inside in analyzing what data they uncovered.

Ten yards out from the building, trenchwork surrounded the listening post, except for a path left for vehicles to enter and exit, in front of which was fenced barbed wire-razor wire barricades. Of course, deterring any infantry attack, but it was primarily there to not allow wildlife in. At the time, they had their "gate" (two portable knife's rests barbed wire obstacles with concertina razor wire laid in the gaps, merely portable versions of the fencing surrounding the listening post) open. The back ends of the trenches had small duracrete barriers in place, while the gate area had several; a typical set up to lessen damage from a IED or mortar attack. The building itself had larger such barriers along its outer walls for the same purpose.

At the time of daybreak, two dismounted Scout Troopers and the officer in charge of the base talking at the opening, discussing defensive tactics. In the courtyard, two of the Intelligence operatives were out taking a smoke break, while a Lance of the mounted Scout Troopers were in PT uniforms, doing morning exercises in the courtyard. The other Lance of mounted Scout Troopers were out doing recon of the swamp, and some of the dismounted were deployed doing external security watch on the base, while the rest were inside having breakfast. It was appearing to a quiet day, as the sounds of a Gungan carvan was faintly heard. They thought nothing of it at this points, months of operations in the same location and constant checking of caravans to find nothing led them to largely disregard the noise. This would be their failing.

The peace of the morning was broken by the sound of the discharge of the AATs' main guns, which startled those outside, and dazed all of them as they slammed into the barriers along the building. The Bunker-Buster rounds then let them know that they were in the middle of the flashpoint likely to set of the operation they were helping prepare for. Immediately, they went into action, however the Scout Troopers who were working out, as well as the two Intelligence operatives were dead. The facility commander was injured by flying debris but alright, and helped the two guarding Scout Troopers to close the gates and take cover. Inside the building, the troops hurried to their lockers, where they put on their armor and grabbed their weapons. The portion of the base taking the initial abuse was the part dedicated to the Intelligence team, which allowed the Scout Troopers to get outside and into the trenches, but left most of the Intelligence team dead or wounded, and the two AT-STs destroyed. With the heavy fire they were under, there was no way their resident Medic could attend to them, as he was also forced into the cover of the trenches. It was here they waited, a total of sixteen men in the trenched, while the two two-man Sniper teams hidden throughout the area attempted to pinpoint the area the bombardment was coming from and the Lance that was out on recon was recalled. Nearby, Fire Support Base Thunder, outside Moenia, was put on stand-by by a communicative sniper.

((Claiming four day rule, this has been given over a month. Don't worry, I won't do too much.))

As the Gungans continued to fire on the small base, the snipers out in the field were vigorously hunting down the Gungan position. One of the observing snipers was able to discern the location of the Gungan firing position, and radioed in the coordinates to Moenia. Decided to put some pressure on the Gungans, the commander of the Fire Support Base had a battery of six Leveler I Medium Concussion Missile Launchers fire a salvo of seven missiles each into the area, blanketing the general area, centering on the reported area, leaving an area 140 meters wide, by sixty meters long around the Gungan position, which would be decimated by concussion missile fire. For effect, one of the V-188 Penetrators followed the salvo by firing a single shot directly upon the reported Gungan position. They would have time to retreat out of the firing zone, only if they either charged the observation post or retreated straight back... and did so at that very moment.

((I guess it was missed when I said that I'd be away and wouldn't be returning until after the 27th. I also believe that the Four Day rule begins the day of the return. With that said, I'll have a reply here tomorrow after I return home from classes.))

((It wasn't missed. However my responding post was made on January 14th, and no effort was made over the course of several weeks to indicate an intention to post, nor any delay of said post, in between then and your leave of absence. Just by the nature of RP posting standards, even with your declared leave of absence, I doubt anyone in the RP would agree that a thread which had its four days long expired would fall under your leave absence, one which, I might add, you were posting at your normal activity levels irregardless of the leave of absence. I'm not sure an angsty OOC post was in any way appropriate when, while I have made a response, I have given a clear out, in which I have clearly stated you can disengage with zero loss, and re-engage the base at will should you wish to persue your attack that you clearly have the upper hand in. I have been far more generous that I believe any other RP player ever has, or ever will, to you, or anyone else, in this circumstance, so disrespect is hardly an appropriate nor civil response. I will however, ignore such a display, and await your post when you are finished with school. Have a good first day, by the way.))

When the last round had fallen, the Gungan forces had already begun their pull back, leaving the sniper with only a few outlines of what was in the mist, as well as the morning sun that had just peaked over the horizon of the ridge. Tenko had chosen the ridge for the sole purpose that it would be covered by the rising sun, and had waited until morning to attack to ensure a safe lane to retreat, as it would be very difficult to hit a target that was cloaked by the sun. The AATs had been quickly pulled back by the carts that carried them, wheeling them back into the dense Naboo swamps and forest to be hidden away in the thick under growth. The last to leave the site was Tenko and a few of his soldiers that had stayed to ensure his safety. When the remaining forces where pulled out, Tenko then took his leave, always being the first to step on the field of battle and the last to leave.

The rounds would strike ground mere moments after Tenko and his guards left the site. One round striking the very spot Tenko had been standing in when he gave the command to fire. All that would be left, would be a blacked scorched land, and felled trees that littered the ground. The explosions, while clearing the area, had the unfortunate effect of wiping away any tracks that might have lead the troopers on a good path into the swamps, or given them a clue on the movement of the retreating force.

After several hours, a full company of Stormtroopers were now at the observation post, securing the area and looking for clues as to the likely origin of the attack. Whether or not it was correct they would decide upon the nearest Gungan village being the likely origin of the attack. Twelve hours after the attack, the company, now part of a full battalion that had become arrayed in the area, was now part of a land blockade of the village, one of a couple thousand. Walkers, as well as armored vehicles from the nearby Army units, supported this blockade, which allowed absolutely no entrance or exit from the village. They would see the wraith of Commander Ver, who now had a flight of TIE Bombers orbiting the city. After another hour, in which Imperial forces merely waited, shooting anyone Gungan who attempted to exit the village.

The scream of the orbiting TIE Bombers was soon filled by another sound, that of incoming rocket fire and artillery and mortar rounds. It was not overwhelming like the attempt of Tenko's force, but gradual, systematic, and yet, oppressive and intimidating. It was a leisurely bombardment, that would go on for a full six hours, targeting any medical and what could possibly be military structures. This process was not thorough though... as long as it looked as such from an orbital satellite feed, it was hit. Despite this, much of the village was left standing. After a few minutes, the TIE Bombers broke off from the city. The land blockade, far enough from the village to be visually identifiable, allowed the illusion that it was over. The Gungans had a reprieve, and time to try to recover and pick up the pieces. That is when the worst came. The TIE Bombers flew across the village, dropping their full loads of cluster bombs across the entirety of the village. They were not done however, making several more passes on the village, hitting any vehicles spotted with their concussion missiles, hitting more buildings with their proton torpedoes, and making general strafing runs. This was only the beginning of the siege.

If Tenko did happen to be in the village, his tanks were certainly destroyed, and many of his men likely wounded and dead or dying. As this was unlikely, and he was unlikely to even be in the area, the attack would go on. In this opening salvo, in the village of 12,000, there were over 500 dead, primarily from the bombing run, and the city was left with little to no medical or military facilities, with several residential complexes destroyed or damaged.

For over a month, the process of attack, every day, on the same schedule, continued. The Empire was relentless, but patient. It took a week, before the Empire's demand of the location of Bar Tenko and his group were transmitted to the Gungans. They knew, however, that the Gungans had no idea. Regardless, a battalion was assigned to investigate each answer to their demand, each turning up nothing within the swamps. Every wrong answer only increased the Empire's level of attack. Any attempt of escape was met with death. The Empire, by now, had used down time to set up a minefield in between the land blockade and the outskirts of the town. Anyone who did make it across, was shot dead.

The Empire was not unaware of attempts to possible see what was going on either. Constant patrols went out into the swamps to chase off anyone too curious for their own good, with deadly force. This was the 21st's specialty; total dominance through overwhelming and intimidating lethal force. At the end of the thirty days of bombardment, there wasn't a structure left standing. Before pulling out, troops were inserted into the town, and combed the rubble, killing any survivors. The town was no more; only rubble stood where a month ago a flourishing village had stood. There was no statement made here, physically. Of course, psychologically, a rather large one was made. Thus is the fate of those who oppose the Empire.

They left the minefield up, and within three hours of scans showing no life surviving in the town, the last of the gunships roared off into the distance, the last of the Empire's mighty war vehicles rumbled away. No equipment was left behind by the Stormtroopers, and anything possible useful in the town had been destroyed by the bombardment. They had made no attempt to bury or hide the bodies... if anything they were on display for those who happened upon the town, and made it through the minefield. All that was left in the place once called Otoh Gadnek, was death... and absolute silence.
