It had been a decade since Soap had deserted the newly-christened Empire. He felt a part of him died when that loyalty was shattered, but it had to be done. The government he had pledged to put his life on the line for died that fateful day. The elitist may have left out of haste. However, during his brief tenure in service of the Empire (only a few moments mind you), he had seen all he needed to in order to see a future of darkness. The Jedi were killed by clones. The clones had arrested and subjugated several natives on numerous worlds just for assisting their army. That was the future he did not need to serve. His deep loyalty for the Republic had been in vain. Thus, he was living a life of a deserter after killing his own teammates and a few clones for attempting to arrest him, which in turn Soap attempted to leave the life of doom and servitude.

The man was a deserter, and that severly crippled his ability to roam freely within the galaxy. He couldn't get anywhere near a civilized system within the Outer Rim, and anywhere beyond the Outer Rim. For a decade, he had moved from a meaningless job to another. The transformation of the Republic to the Empire had shaken him so badly that he couldn't really trust anyone else, even his estranged parents and siblings. This enabled him to prefer animal companions over those who possess sentience. His only hobbies outside the jobs he undertook was attending local cantinas to get drunk and go on hunting trips with Jerky and Petey, both a Salky pet of his.

The current appearance of Soap would be rugged. Instead of keeping himself up to date and cleaning himself up like any good soldier would, he had grown a beard with a lot of hair. It wasn't a lengthy beard that ran away from his chin. It was just all over the lower parts of his face, with hair growing longer (Baird-style). The deserter would be working on his latest crappy job at the moment, which is helping out a family of farmers that was stationed somewhere in the Outskirts of Tatooine (several miles away from Mos Espa). Specifically, helping out with the moisture vaporators and all. Jerky and Petey were wrestling with each other playfully nearby, while he went to work on the crops. The A280 blaster rifle he has in possession were left in the 3-Z light freighter landed several feet away from the farmer's hut. However, he had a combat knife and a DC-15s side arm blaster hidden away just in case a pack of Tusken Raiders tries to pull anything.

((OOC note: This is an open thread. Everyone is welcomed to jump in.))

Following their deal on Taris with the swoop gang leader, Hejin and company had made a brief stopover on tatooine to gather supplies. They'd come in the rather unassuming Theta-class shuttle that was used by millions of beings across the galaxy for transport and other needs. Mos Espa had been their landing site of choice and, perhaps luckily, the shuttle had not been part of any of their attacks and as such, was not likely at all to be recognized. As well, even in their attacks on the LGMC facility, no faces had been shown; Hejin preferring to work over a radio frequency than give people a good look at his face and those of his crew.

The fact that their supply run, consisting mostly of foodstuffs, water and other perishable goods, was inconspicuous would help as well. For now, it was just a matter of finding a buyer. As always, Hejin had a backup plan in case things got too nasty as well.

While he was dusting off a canister for moisture vaporators, both pets were barking out loudly. He'd drop what he was doing and walked to them, "What is it now, boys?" That was the moment he turned his face to the left, and see a pack of womp rats. They were stealing food out of garbage. "Not again!" The deserter drew out the blaster from behind his back. There were six of them, gnawing away at the now-ruined bags. Blasterfire would be heard, four laserbolts coming out of the blaster. All four hit four womp rats, some in the head and some in the chest. The remaining two would run away. Soap grumbled, this meant extra work. He'd have to put the dead rats onto the speeder he could borrow from his employer, to be taken to Mos Espa. But before he leaves for the city, he made sure to clean the garbage up.

On the bright side, he would earn a few extra credits for cleaning the garbage up. Then there's ten credits bounty for each womp rat killed on Tatooine. It was a meaningless task, but he could see why. Creatures like those were a nuisance, and makes a mess out of everything. Nevertheless, he doesn't mind forty extra credits. Soap was also a hunter, though he lost his hunting rifle on his last job. Before taking off, he made sure to stow the salkies away inside the freighter and grab the A280 blaster rifle. The man made a mental note of purchasing a Czerka Outland Rifle for hunting in the city. Hunting was a hot spot on a planet like this, so it would be reasonable to find one. The former soldier would make the speeder go, and head for Mos Espa.

Most of their running about had literally been on foot, until Petra used a combination of flirtatious charm and credits to weasel a speeder bike away from a merchant at a drastically reduced price. This would give them the ability, should they need it, to travel within some distances outside the city and to the moisture farms. The need was unlikely, but one could never guarantee that all the parts and items needed could be found solely in Mos Espa. Water was easy enough, and most of their time was spent carting barrels back to their ship.

While all this was being done, Petra and Lim headed out to a slightly different part of the city, not far from their comrades, to find news and food items.

After thirty minutes of driving, Soap managed to reach the city. Tatooine may be a backwater planet, but it was infamous for the lawlessness. Despite the fact that it is more than likely to have a garrison, perhaps less, stationed in Mos Eisley, the true authority is the fat slug of Jabba the Hutt that ran the place. No doubt Jabba had made a deal with the Empire to keep running Tatooine. That was going to be one of Soap's several worries. Imperial stormtroopers patrolling every city. Mercenaries, bounty hunters, and smugglers doing the dirty work for the Hutt Cartel. He was a deserter, which makes it likely he will be a painted target. There is a reason his appearance got rugged. He was making it hard for the authorities to seek him out.

Entering the city, Soap decided that the first stop would be the Imperial bounty office to earn credits. He never stepped a foot into the bounty office the whole time he was working on Tatooine, so how did he earn credits? The price of living a life of a fugitive is to split credits. The man usually paid a "service fee" for every single slave that passed him. Why didn't he choose beggars? Why didn't he choose children? The answer is both children and beggars would have run off with a pile of credits, his credits. Slaves usually don't have much need for money, except to use it for extra food and water. That was something the deserter would gladly provide. He usually split the credits 75 percent to 25 percent. Soap would keep thirty credits, while a slave passer-by earns ten credits.

The credits was assembled, so the next destination: a nearby sporting goods store. It was right across the street from the Imperial bounty office. The upside to Tatooine is, lawlessness have played a hand in importing and exporting weapons. For one, with bribery, there is no need for license or any sort of proof that he would need to purchase a weapon. Soap went in, and decided to take a look around to see if he could find what he wanted.

Hejin and his crew had little to do with Imperial bounty offices. Oh, there had been the few times where Hejin had hauled this or that reluctant prisoner back to a gulag here or there for some cash, but by and large, he preferred his smuggling as a primary job and his pirating as a fallback. Too much bounty hunting would give him a bad name, after all.

It was possible that Hejin and Petra passed within meters of Soap as they piled crates of food on the back of the speeder bike, which was parked just down the street from the sporting goods location. Of course, there was no way for either party to know who the other was, so it was a moot point either way, but sometimes life did funny little coincidences like that.

Indeed, Soap believe bounty hunters have one of the worst reputations in the entire galaxy. They were the kind of people that allows credits to dicitate their lives. Soap could have struck rich by going into the bounty hunting business. The man certainly has the abilities to do so, but then again, he would be rounding people up for doing what they believe are right. He left the Empire because he believe dictatorship actions are not the answer to running the galaxy, because they had killed and arrested several people for what they were supposed to do. That is the day democracy died, and a part of him died. If he were to become a bounty hunter, he would be a hypocrite.

It was different when the deserter was hunting, for survival. The guy managed to find and purchase a Czerka Outland Rifle. It was cheap, but not as cheap as he thought it would be. Then again, this is Tatooine. Prices could skyrocket or go into a downfall for a little to no reason at all. He didn't mind, he still had a few credits left over. Getting out of the store, the man would head down the streets...in the directions of Hejin and Petra's rented speeder bike. Strapping the hunting rifle to the back, he had made sure that the A280's safety were on. There was no need to attract attention to himself unless he had no choice, but to. Soap did not see Petra loading stuffs on the speeder, and accidently bumped into her. "Sorry." That was all he said, before resuming the walking.

"Watch where you're going, moron!" One of the reasons Hejin enjoyed Petra's company was not for her looks; it was for her sharp tongue and equal skill with weapons. That and, of course, her command ability, among other things. Hejin glanced back curiously for a moment as he caught Petra's raised voice. The man didn't look like much of an issue; just a local drifter likely as not, so he turned around to continue his task.
