Sluis Van Backs Down as Brentaal Threatens Boycott

Sluis Van has agreed to shelf a starship design resembling a Separatist transport of the Clone Wars era as the honorable Senator Sir Reuke ur'Tsyne Cambrist of Brentaal threatened a boycott of the Sluis Van shipyard in protest. Senator Cambrist referred to the design, a refurbished version of the Trade Federation's C-9979 lander, as "a symbol of Separatist invasion and conquest," and that Sluis Van's "alien sensibilities are... insensitive to the pain these flying Pandora's boxes have caused to tens of millions of innocent people" [in the Clone Wars].

"We on Sluis Van have come to a decision," the planet's senator, Toben Domon, announced in response to the criticism, "The design will be shelved from public marketing and use, to prevent problems like this one." Domon noted that many are "incapable of understanding what it is we attempted to do with the design," and that Sluis Van "[does] not wish difficulties." Senator Cambrist's threat of a boycott and a rumor that Eriadu, an economic powerhouse of the Outer Rim, intended to participate in it are believed to have persuaded Sluis Van to withdraw its design, which was described as "insensitive."

The Brentaal Trade News first reported on the design in a previous edition.

Brentaal Proposes Amendment to Planetary Laws of War

Further demonstrating that Brentaal's influence extends beyond commerce and into the arena of Imperial interplanetary policies, the honorable Senator Sir Reuke ur'Tsyne Cambrist of Brentaal proposed an amendment to a bill he originally proposed which governs how and when planets may use force on one another. "The amendment will resolve the legal ambiguities that caused the recent Dantooine crisis," said Lars Tanfelt, an analyst for the Trade News.

Senator Cambrist has also passed laws to provide relief to impoverished Outer Rim worlds and secure Imperial funding for Brentaal's astrogation museum. He also proposed and passed an influential law, The Peace and Parity Act, to regulate warships and provide financial assistance to worlds that can't afford defense loans, among many other bills. Senator Cambrist and Brentaal's delegation end the year second only to Senator Oriel of Vjun as "the most successful legislator in the Imperial Senate" for this term.

Lady Estella Defends Remarks, Demands Apology from Garos IV

"Brentaal has nothing to apologize for, and neither do I," Lady Estella ur'Tsyne told a Trade News reporter this afternoon, responding to criticism from a professor on Garos IV about the noblewoman's comment, this week, that "the Brentaal League tamed the primitive beings of the Outer Rim and spread civilization throughout the stars." The Brentaal League was a Brentaal-based trade faction 4,000 years ago, during the "glory days" of Brentaal's exploration of the galaxy and the discovery of its hyperspace routes. Some academics, including a professor of history on Garos IV this week, have claimed the League was "imperious" and "responsible for the ethnic cleansing of countless alien cultures on the Outer Rim."

Lady Estella ur'Tsyne, a noble of House Cambrist, demanded the University of Garos disavow the professor's remarks. "The Brentaal League brought the light of science and society to dark areas of space known only for war, disease, and superstition," she said, "It's good for these things to be 'cleansed' from history." Lady Estella speaks for many people on Brentaal who view the ancient Brentaal League as a symbol of planetary pride.

Brentaal-Yag'dhul Relations Strengthened with "Sister City" Pact

A "sister city" arrangement has been established between the port city of Votrad, on Brentaal, and Dodecapolis, the capital of Yag'dhul, to encourage the exchange of goods and ideas between the two worlds, which have enjoyed a prosperous economic relationship over the past decade. "The people of Brentaal and the Givin have much in common," said Mayor Wilmhurst of Votrad, "Both worlds are innovative, and both share proud histories of exploration. This 'sister city' pact is intended to celebrate this." And, according to Trade News analyst Lars Tanfelt, it will open new markets on Yag'dhul to Brentaal merchants.
