Flagg jerked in surprise as the blaster went off; fortunately his suit was spared most of the gore that was all that was left of Grimm's head. At the moment, he made no reach for the small holdout blaster inside his jacket, though he considered it for a long moment. "No, Mr. Weathers, I cannot say as to the fact that I've not heard of you. I have now though, and I can tell you safely, quite safely, that you are mistaken. We can come to an agreement... I can even cut you in on the profits that will come from the Dantooine casino, but if you expect to get a ransom from me, you've just killed me... and likely you with me." His smile was bleak; the look of a man who was suddenly caught between a rock and a hard place.

"I do believe I'll take that cigar though." With Grimm slumped against him, there was a chance he could use one of the weapons in Grimm's shoulder rig and fire straight through the larger man and hope to hit Weathers; the .48 Enforcer would do it for sure, but at their current speed, he would be unable to shift the bulk and control the truck.

"Help yourself," Otis told him, "Just make sure you keep yer hands where I can see 'em. I don't talk perty but I ain't stupid." First farms, then empty fields reached into the distance on either side of the truck as a light rain began to drizzle on its windshield. "I ain't a bad man, neither," Otis went on, "And I don't see why either of us gots to be ornery 'bout this. I don't want to shoot you—will if I gotta, mind. But assumin' your partners is goin' to pay yer ransom, you'll be out of here in a week's time and have a nice story to tell, now won't ya? Might as well enjoy the ride in the meantime, hey?"

"And to answer yer question, we're goin' to Sulem to meet up with my brother Willis. There's a farm bank in town in need of knockin' over, and we can use a comm there too, put in a call to yer casino." The road being straight and empty for as far as the eye could see, Otis had no difficulty keeping a close eye on Flagg.

"There is no partner," Flagg said carefully. If there was a chance he could get out of here intact, he would jump at the chance; the casino had its own funding and account after all. It was whether or not he could pull it off without issue that was the matter. "I can contact the branch head on Arcan IV and request a transfer of funds. Depending on how much you're asking for, this can be done quick and easy." No, reaching for the guns was too risky an option. He did, however, retrieve a cigar and light it up, moving slowly and carefully. "So now we're down to dickering, I assume, Mr. Weathers? Keep in mind that my pocketbook isn't as big as it once was. The Mandate cost me a large amount in fines and court fees, not to mention bad publicity."

"Hells," Otis scoffed, "Yer shoes is worth money 'n Willis or me see in a whole season." He smiled a toothy smile and nodded to himself as he continued down the road. "We'll settle on somethin', I reckon."

* * *

A day had passed. The truck driven on for a few hours before pulling off the beaten road and bounced along a dead field for a ways before coming upon, and driving into, a derelict barn. It was there Marten met Willis Weathers, who was identical to his brother in almost every way, including his smell. Willis was angrier, though. He was a real sadist, and the doer of the pair. He resented Marten his wealth, and not in the good-natured way that Otis did. But aside from having to sleep in a barn on nothing but a thin "bed" of hay, Marten wouldn't be mistreated. He'd even be offered some moonshine, which had the taste of watered-down toothpaste. The Weathers brothers would take turns sleeping—Willis was the first one to keep his eye on Marten, telling him that if he tried to escape he'd skin him like a hare, then Otis, who prattled on in a one-way conversation with Marten for the rest of the night, telling him about his fond memories of other heists and hostages.

It had rained hard that night, some of the water seeping into the barn through its roof. The next morning was sunny. The ground was wet. Marten would awake to the sound of an old backhoe finishing burying his man Grimm in the mud. They shared a can of baked beans for breakfast—more for them, if Marten didn't want any—then armed themselves to the teeth from a stash of weapons in the barn and set off together in the truck for Sulem.

The town was small, and tended to sleep in on the weekends. There weren't many people on the streets when the truck pulled up to the only holonet terminal in the town; a small computer on a street corner with the phrase 'Where's Amos?' scratched into the screen. Still worked, though. "Now look here," Otis said to Marten from the driver's side of the truck, with Willis looking ominously over his shoulder from the passenger side. (Willis was hungover this morning and clearly wasn't in a good mood, even for him). "We got us enough guns to take down every militiaman in this here town, so don't you get it in yer head to shout for help," Otis told him, "That's only goin' a start the shootin', and the shootin' starts with you, y'hear?"

"Yer goin' get on that there terminal and put in a call to whoever it is goin' pay your ransom," Willis said. "I'm goin' be right behind you to make sure you do just that. Yer goin' have 50,000 credits transferred to this account." Willis slapped a piece of paper on the dashboard with an account number on it and the name 'Farm Bank of Sulem' on it. Willis opened the door and stepped out, one hand the pocket of his duster, clearly holding a weapon. "After you," he said, nodding Marten to the terminal.

Flagg had been cold, wet and miserable. Presumably, Grimm's weapons had been taken and if Flagg himself had remained unsearched, then he'd still have possession of his holdout; a card he fully intended to keep close to his chest. In any captive situation, Stockholm syndrome could tend to occur, and Flagg had taken something of a liking to Otis, largely in part due to the nature of Willis Weathers, who frightened Flagg more than a little. Flagg did partake in the baked bean breakfast; being held hostage put a terrible hunger on a man after all, and Flagg felt he might need his strength.

When they arrived in Sulem, Flagg simply accepted the piece of paper silently and moved to the terminal. He paused for a moment, considering who exactly he was going to contact. If he called the casino, odds were that the money would be transferred well enough and then Willis would shoot him. Making a split second decision, he placed the call to a number that was only useful once and only then for emergencies. When it went through, a man dressed in black could be seen on the opposite end, sitting behind a small desk in an equally nondescript room and looking very unamused.

"How may I help you, Mr. Flagg? I am assuming this isn't a call about the Dantooine casino?"

Flagg resisted the urge to look back at Willis, presumably out of sight of the Holonet transceiver on his end, and exhaled slightly. "I need fifty-thousand credits transferred to the following account number at the Farm Bank of Sulem." He gave the account number to the man, who was rapidly jotting a few notes on a page. "Of course, Mr. Flagg. It will be transferred immediately and be available via credit chip from the bank. Have a good day." The call terminated and Flagg looked back around at Willis. "It's done. You can pick it up on a credit chip at the bank as soon as we get there."

---

At Garang Field, Flagg's second associate, Mr. Reiper, had become concerned with Flagg's disappearance for long. It was not long after Flagg requested the transfer that Mr. Reiper received a Holonet call with the information leading to the closest source Flagg could possibly be near: Sulem. The shuttle, a stock Lambda-class, would be much more efficient in reaching Sulem faster than a hovertruck. Flinging a number of credits to cover the landing at Garang Field at the door of the old obese man, Mr. Reiper boarded the craft, initiated his preflight and took off. If Flagg was in trouble, it was his job to pull him out of it. If he was unable to do so... well, Mr. Reiper would be better off making himself rather scarce. It had been impressed upon the second equally silent man that Flagg was an important man. Furthermore, Otis and Willis were not the only ones who shared the bonds of brotherhood, and Mr. Reiper was quite curious to know what had happened to the boy who had grown up with him on the streets of Nar Shaddaa.

Needless to say, Flagg had long ago been relieved of his holdout blaster.

Flagg's man, Reiper, would probably arrive in Sulem around the time the Weathers brothers, with Flagg in tow, were preparing to move on the town's farm bank. An hour had passed since the credit transfer, throughout which the brothers fortified themselves with alcohol. With Flagg once again crammed in between them, they'd parked the truck behind the bank—a modest repliwood building with a pickup or three parked up front. Then, however it was the brothers decided "it was time," it was time. They piled out of the truck and wore bandanas over their faces, handing one to Flagg as well. "I reckon you should wear this," Otis told him, "'less you want it known the Weathers' brothers new accomplice is none other than Mr. Marten Flagg his self!" Willis, who had been reaching around under the canvas in the bed of the truck, produced an E-5 blaster rifle and shoved it into Flagg's hands. It was grimy and had no power pack—inoperable, certainly, and probably recovered from one of Dantooine's battle sites like most of the blasters on Dantooine.

When he looked up, the probably-confused Flagg would see that Otis and Willis had armed themselves with enormous DC-15A blaster rifles, also of Clone Wars fame. Before he'd know what's happening, they'd be on the move. Otis took the lead, his leather duster billowing behind him as he rounded the bank in a hurry, headed for its front door. Willis stayed behind Flagg, urging him along with the Clone Wars era SE-14 blaster pistol that everyone on Dantooine and their dog owned.

"You just play along now, Mr. Flagg," Willis told him gruffly, "And have a good time, too. Nobody's goin' hold you responsible for what happens here today, so you might as well have fun. Ain't often a man such as yerself gets to rob a bank without no cons-quences. And it's in yer interest this job go off without a hitch, see? We get the ransom money, you go free."

It was a lot for Flagg to think about, especially being told this at gunpoint as he was being whisked in the front door of the Farm Bank of Sulem. Next thing he knew, a deafening shot would go up from Otis's rifle, hitting the high ceiling of the bank and sending splinters down into the lobby. "Everbody down! This here's a robbery!" Willis did the honor of shouting at the handful of patrons inside.

Flagg was filled with more than a little trepidation as they pressed the ruined E-5 blaster into his hands. From the Clone Wars-era, the ruined droid blaster had nothing on the massive DC-15A rifles, or even on the stubby and deadly SE-14 blasters. Nonetheless, he wrapped the bandana over his face; even if he were somehow held blameless, this could come back to haunt him in a bad, bad way. This entire job had the feeling of going over badly, but he was in too deep, and he did not believe that Otis or Willis would accept his 'no' for an answer. What he could and did hope for was that backup would come in one form or another.

As he was thrust into the Farm Bank of Sulem, Flagg stumbled to the side, ducking almost reflexively as Willis fired into the ceiling. Flagg dropped his E-5 and covered his head with his hands, hoping against hope that the place wouldn't erupt in blaster fire. It was then that he heard a familiar, almost welcome sound: the roar of an ion engine combined with that of a repulsor. Mr. Reiper had indeed arrived at Sulem. He did not know where precisely Flagg was, not his captors, but the Farm Bank of Sulem was likely be on their list of places to visit. Wheeling the shuttle about as deftly as possible, Reiper would set it down some hundred meters from the front of the bank that the Weathers brothers and Flagg had just entered, facing the craft nose-towards. He set the scan for a life-sign check inside before heading to the back of the shuttle to don a few pieces of equipment that had come in two sets; one for himself and one for Mr. Grimm. It was time to see where Flagg was.

Two among the assorted farmers and ranch hands reached for metal—this was Dantooine, after all; damn near everyone was packing—but the Weathers brothers made short work of them with deadly, if not especially well-placed shots. The rest of the patrons and the bank tellers hit the ground as they'd been told, and with the exception of a few soft whimpers, the only sound in the room was Otis and Willis breathing heavily, adrenaline having taken over. Having been lackadaisical in all the time Flagg had been with them, the brothers seemed suddenly more professional—this is what they did, and they did it well.

Otis vaulted over the counter, his nerf hide duster billowing behind him, and commenced herding the tellers at gunpoint toward the safe—a room-sized durasteel safe with a heavy locking mechanism. Willis, meanwhile, looked on Flagg's cowering form with disgust. It was then that the engine could be heard outside. The brothers exchanged a sharp glance across the room. They hadn't forgotten that sound either, having been at Slapp's field when Flagg and his entourage landed. They nodded to each other and moved more quickly; Otis had the safe open in no time, and Willis seized Flagg by the collar and hoisted him to his feet, not about to surrender the one hostage in the bank more valuable than all the rest combined.

In no time, Flagg was shoved to the floor of the room-sized safe as the tellers were put to work stuffing paper credits into the satchels that Otis and Willis had brought with them. Another teller was maxing out electronic credit chits under Otis's close supervision, handing them off to his captor once they were loaded.

It was a very defensible position. The counter in the lobby was the first line of defense, and if somehow Mr. Rieper succeeded in overrunning the Weathers brothers there, they could fall back to the safe with its heavy door as cover and Flagg and the tellers as human shields, if need be. For Otis and Willis, however, getting out would be a challenge; there was still plenty of time to do so before any of the "authorities" in Sulem, such as they were, got out of bed, but with Mr. Reiper posing an obstacle to them there wasn't too much time for footdraggin'.

"That's right, all of it, y'hear?" Willis barked at one of the anxious tellers, dividing his attention between them and the lobby.

Despite the fact that the shuttle was pointed directly at the bank's front, with its cannons providing a fearsome overwatch, it was neither economical nor collateral-friendly to engage the men within such weaponry. That would be like swatting a fly with a crane. Instead, Otis and Willis would find themselves with a decent amount of time with which to stuff the bags and max out the electronic chits while Mr. Reiper donned what he had.

The matching sets of armor were Clone Wars-era, and had cost Flagg a pretty penny to acquire, largely because it was difficult to find full working sets, but acquire a pair he had. Blaze trooper armor was about the only sort, short of some heavily-modified other kinds, that would fit the equally gigantic bulks of Mr. Grimm and Mr. Reiper, and when the nose ramp of the now locked-down shuttle opened, the hulking figure that advanced towards the front of the bank was adorned in a scuffed but well-maintained white and yellow-striped suit of the armor. Otis and Willis might not have recognized the heavy fore-arm mounted barrels for flamethrowers, but at the least they could appear as some form of stubby blaster cannon.

As he advanced on the bank, Mr. Reiper would utilize the HUD to discern lifesigns, mark any available targets and in general, prepare for what he did best: a head-on, full frontal assault with a suit of armor that matched it. Unfortunately, an enclosed bank was perhaps not the best place for a flamethrower.

(( So in accordance with this post, I'm going to need to ask that we auto this along, if that's okay. I'm not too particular on how it ends. Just know this, Willis Weathers will never be taken alive. If Willis dies though, Otis will probably run for it. Poor Otis. He just does what he always done; what his big brother tells him to, that is. He don't mean Marten Flagg no harm. ))

(( Well, I'm not about to set in motion the deaths of any characters you may want to keep, but Mr. Reiper is not a happy fellow and he'd likely come in more or less full bore, with at least some regard to civilian and collateral damage. His primary concern is getting Flagg to safety. ))
