Ethnic Cronese Held Hostage on Caluula
Today a Cronese Mandate vessel carrying Medical Personnel and relief aid was turned away from Caluula. The vessel in question, the Valkyria had been refitted for medical duty in a rush job to allow for more medical equipment, resources and personnel, as well as make room for refugees and Ethnic Cronese that wished to leave Caluula behind. When it arrived however, it was immediately threatened by the Caluula Government, who sent fighters to intercept the vessel. A medic on board spoke of the tension that the rest of the crew and personnel felt. "We were just there to aid the injured Ethnic Cronese. There is a deep divide between the Cronese and Tionese, and many Ethnic Cronese would refuse treatment from a Tionese. The fact that the Caluula Government prevented us from even seeing the injured, or evacuating any Ethnic Cronese shows just how deeply this divide remains." Those on board felt the same tension as they waited to feel the attack by the fighters that had been sent out. The Valkyria was carrying in total 200 medical personnel, nearly 100 medical droids, and tons in medical supplies, as well as prefabricated medical stations.
The captain of the Valkyria spoke to us upon his return to the Cronese Mandate. "We stated out intentions, as well as the fact that we were a medical vessel there to aid the Ethnic Cronese. They answered by sending fighters against us and threatening to fire." The Captain who kept a level head continued to remind the flight of fighters that the vessel was carrying medics and aid, though its clear that the Caluula Government was not interested in seeing the Ethnic Cronese receive aid from the Cronese Mandate. It is now thought that the Ethnic Cronese that are in the hospitals are being held hostage by the Caluula Government, Senator Goodchild, whom has taken up representing the Mandate since Senator Kuriyoshi stepped down, voiced his opinion on this matter.
"This is an outrage. The Ethnic Cronese of Caluula are being held hostage by the Government of Caluula that denied our medics from offering aid, and denied the Ethnic Cronese the right to leave Caluula. The fact that the Caluula Government is getting away with this, and that the Cronese Mandate is being brand instigators and the Ethnic Cronese are being brand the problem is showing the hypocrisy of the Senate. If this was any other world, you can bet that they'd have their vessels in the system immediately and wouldn't get anything more than a slap on the wrist for taking action." The Senator, who was clearly enraged at the fact that the vessel was turned away, and that the Ethnic Cronese were now being held hostage, vowed to take this before the Senate and vowed that the Ethnic Cronese would be brought home and released from captivity.
