"May I use your first name Ms Kuriyoshi?" he said, thinking the Ord-Japanese style name a bit of a mouthful. "I don't blame you.. being kept in a cage is never desirable.." frowning as the father was mentioned "I knew he was serious but my Doctor did not appraise me how badly ill he was, we could have him transferred to the Imperial Hospital? It's mostly a mental-health facility but has a very modern intensive care facility?"

"You'd be welcome to come along to Imperial Center, I must leave later this week with several delegates and notables aboard the Corvette Juliana, then you'd be welcome to return when I do after a month or stay if you've found employment or do not desire to come.." he smliked and cast his hand around a little. "The house would be interesting to explore I'm sure, I'm told whole wings haven't been used for years, boarded up staircases and even whole rooms bricked up or that you can only get to from secret passages. Rogi might know more about them but it's been a whirlwind since I was given the property and so have been Senator since so haven't really had the time." a wolf howl drifted through the window panes. "Don't worry about that, Rogi has speakers placed throughout the grounds with ominous noises and music, very well maintained I'm told, to keep a 'tenthh of poetic atmothhphere', perhaps I could take you on a tour of the grounds?"

The young woman nodded in response to his question. "Of course, Amneris. You always could have, without question." She said quietly as she removed the napkin from her lap and laid it gently on the table next to the plate. "I know my last name is a bit much. My maiden name is Wynlan, if that is any easier for you." She mentioned off handedly.

"Are you sure that you wouldn't mind me tagging along? I promise not to be too much of a burden. Or take too much of your time. I would not be an embarrassment to you, I hope." But she had no idea about anything on Imperial Center, but she was sure that she could learn easily after a few days. A small sigh escaped her lips. "And perhaps a hospital would be the best place for him. Do you think?"

Amneris turned her gaze to the window when she heard the wolf howling. "How quaint." She murmured at his explanation for the sound. Carefully, she pushed her chair out and rose to her feet, glancing to Bernard as she did. "I would love a tour, if you do not mind and are sure that you have the time to do so. " She hated thinking that she was being a bother to the obviously busy Senator. As she started to walk, she turned her attention to him. "Bernard...what was it that you wanted to speak with me about when you tried to visit on Chandaar? I am still very sorry for that turned out, by the way."

As she had predicted, Amneris' father passed within days. It was peaceful and he did not suffer, which she was thankful for. Bernard's physicians had treated him well and kept him out of pain the entire time. Not long after, within a fortnight, her mother passed as well. Amneris had been told that her grandparents had gone the same way, they were so in love that neither wanted to be without the other. She had them cremated and placed in the same urn, just so they wouldn't have to ever be apart.

That kind of love vexed her, however. To die of a broken heart, Amneris never thought it would be possible. She wasn't entirely convinced that anyone could ever love her like that, or she could ever love anyone that deeply in return. Perhaps part of that feeling was the fierce independence that she was trying to establish for herself by leaving Chandaar, or perhaps it was something else. She was, in fact, unsure.

For the weeks following, she kept to herself for the most part. Bernard was a busy man and she hated to even think that her presence would be interrupting something far more important. The weather on Vjun matched her mood- dreary and dark. It seemed as though it rained all the time there, which was perfect for one in mourning. She adapted easily to the clothes that Oriel had sent her; fine woven gowns of silk that draped to the floor, stiff waist cinching corsets, beautiful stiletto heeled shoes, and veils. How she did love the sheer silk veils that hid her red-rimmed eyes and porcelain pale skin from prying gazes from the household staff.

She even sent Domnhail home, much to the woman's dismay, and took on the services of one of the maids on staff, who dutifully helped her dress or drew her baths and brought trays of food she barely touched. Even Rogi tried, oh how the poor deformed hunchback tried, to amuse Amneris with his lisp and inability to pronounce even the simplest childs tongue twister. He would limp along beside her when she explored Bernard's virtual house of horrors, pointing out nuances from the previous owner. While she would crack a smile at him every so often, it felt very forced most of the time.

"I am sure Bernard is returning to Imperial Center any day, is he not, Rogi?" Amneris asked the surprised hunchback one evening. He simply shook his head and shrugged. It seemed that a cat had his tongue, which wouldn't have surprised her in the slightest, as she had seen him chasing a cat or two around the manor. "We should ask him then..." She said before she made her way towards his wing of the house.
