Brentaal was a proud world, but for historical reasons more so than notions of culture or ethnicity. A world at a commercial crossroads, it had always been welcoming of other ethnicities—Human ethnicities, that is; non-Human prejudice was ancient on Brentaal—and many of its people were united in the planet's trade industry. There were class divisions, of course, but a stable and adequately-democratic system (not to mention a high standard of living for the planet's people) held class resentments at bay. But aside from Brentaal's famous cuisine, what most united its people was a shared enthusiasm for the planet's proud martial history, a storied history that told of Brentaal blazing the hyperspace routes to half the known galaxy and even commanding an empire ("Brentaal League") of its own.

Since the tumult of the Clone Wars and the rise of Human High Culture, enthusiasm among Brentaal's people for its history and its martial institutions had only increased, as the planet had "returned to its roots." Though it humbly accepted its place as a small—but important—part in a far greater Empire, it had also revived an ancient sense of adventurism in recent years and stretched its military and commercial power as far as far as the Outer Rim, accompanied by much approval and pomp.

Brentaal's fleets were the symbol of all this, and in many ways Sir Edwin Lancaster was the symbol of the fleets (holding the mostly ceremonial title of "Admiral of the Combined Defense and Merchant Fleets of Brentaal"). In his 70s, Lancaster had been an Admiral back when it really mattered. His retirement was rumored, however, and Brentaal's media had speculated that next week's war games with Anaxes in the Auril Sector—and the fleet's "goodwill tour" on its journey there—would be Sir Edwin's last hurrah. The departure of his fleet from Brentaal, thus, was accompanied not just by celebrations of the fleet (anthems, fireworks, the whole lot of it) but a celebration of the man himself. He was presented, for instance, with the following portrait that would be hung in the Trade Hall in Cormond, the planet's capital.

Lancaster, his stately white hair contrasting with the red uniform of House Curovao—which traditionally dominated Brentaal's navy—and the obligatory green and white sash of the ruling House Cambrist, received the adulation humbly and departed Brentaal in the Vindicator-class cruiser Prodigy and a number of Arquitens-class light cruisers for the first stop on the goodwill tour; Chandrila. The Conservatory Epic Orchestra traveled on the Prodigy for this leg of the journey (complaining bitterly of the accommodations), playing the fleet's anthem (which was also the planet's anthem) upon its arrival at its neighboring world. A stirring rendition of "The Stars Are Ours," the chorus from one of Brentaal's best known operas, was also played.

Chandrila would be informed the fleet was simply visiting in a spirit of neighborly warmth and harmony (indeed, it was a nice gesture considering Chandrila was actually a few parsecs out of the way to the Auril Sector). While awaiting an audience with Senator Thanatos, if she desired, Lancaster won the affection of Chandrila's media by praising the pastoral planet and lamenting to reporters "It's too bad Chandrila doesn't have its own fleet" and adding, "I'm sure the Empire can be persuaded to reinstate Chandrila's defense fleet."

The fleet remained at Chandrila for not-quite two days, during which Sir Edwin was treated to a tour of the Brionelle Memorial Military Academy and, later, a hunting trip to the Hanna Wild Game Reserve with the mayor of Hanna City, who also presented him with a key to the city. That night, they and other prominent members of Chandrilan society—including Mr. Karlsyle Ryner, if he accepted the invitation—would attend a performance of the Conservatory Epic Orchestra, which was shuttled from orbit to Hanna City for the event. Proceeds went to Senator Thanatos' pediatric medical charity, though the Senator herself was apparently unable to make it back to Chandrila personally. Sir Edwin took no offense at this, and simply enjoyed the show (which included a respectful rendition of Chandrila's anthem, as well as, once again, Brentaal's).

When the Prodigy and the rest of Lancaster's fleet departed, it did so launching a spectacular display of fireworks in Chandrila's orbit before it disappeared into hyperspace.

Next stop, a day later, was Ralltiir. On the way there, it picked up another ship—the Star Destroyer Original Light, which was on patrol in the Darpa Sector and invited to join the procession. It did for some time, and its captain invited Lancaster and his officers to the Original Light for dinner. They shared some good conversation and good wine, then called it a night. By the time the Prodigy arrived at Ralltiir, the Original Light had resumed its patrol elsewhere in the Sector. The Prodigy would arrive at Ralltiir with the same fanfare and assurances of its peaceful and neighborly intentions. Ralltiir's government would be contacted, and its press welcomed on the Prodigy. Lancaster, as always, would be cordial with them.

Ralltiir would be as hospitable to Brentaal as it'd be to any of its neighbors. Two columns of Corellian corvettes and Corellian gunships would form into an escort formation on either side of Brentaal's fleet as it approached, exchanging cordial greetings with one another. The contentious moment would come later, when Lancaster had the press aboard his ship. Ralltiir had a free press—the planet's government was welcoming to Lancaster and his fleet, but the press wasn't exactly. The questions seemed to focus on three subjects; 1.) Were these war games in the Auril Sector simply an attempt to antagonize the Cronese Mandate? And did Brentaal plan to join in Senator Ordan's blockade of Chandaar? 2.) Why was Brentaal so interested in the Sluis Sector? And 3.) What was being done on Brentaal to bring about a more democratic system of government? This last question was a strange one to ask of Lancaster, a military man, but Ralltiir was proud of its democracy and tended to look down on those who didn't share its values.

Once the presser was over, Lancaster would be invited at his convenience to Ralltiir's capital, Cambrielle, to tour the city's famed Exploration Auditorium. Later, if he was willing, he was also invited aboard one of Ralltiir's gunships for an honorary inspection of the ship and its crew. (Ralltiir didn't have the maritime tradition that Brentaal or even Chandrila did, so didn't have much in common with Lancaster, or many military establishments of note to show him. He was welcome to tour the marble quarries if, for whatever reason, he was interested in this). With Ralltiir having rather uneventful relations with Brentaal, there wasn't much to discuss with Lancaster. It was doubtful he'd be bestowed with any honors or keys to the city, however, until it became clear what exactly his mission was to the Auril Sector. Ralltiir was strongly against provoking a war with the Cronese Mandate.

Eli Fitzgerald
Senator of Ralltiir (10 BBY—Present)

"I was elected to do some flamethrowing in the Senate. To a light a fire under those Senators and make it hot for them."
