| "The Empire does not maintain a steady patrol in the MZX32905 System." It was a week past the initial meeting between Sixteen and Njon, which had ended with Njon's interest. Sixteen had departed Nar Shaddaa with a promise to return. Return he had and with information for Njon. Presumably, he was either physically present with Njon or in some form of meeting room where he'd similarly talked to the Hutt previously, with Neese close by.
"It's a dead system for all intents and purposes; nothing truly worth mining or even prospecting," Sixteen went on to explain. "However, there are two large asteroids of note. One was left alone purely for its lack of use. The other is the largest in the system. It bears the official name of 'Omega 379.' Unofficially, it's the research and development facility for Vigilance Technologies." Sixteen would look up at Njon, making sure the Hutt did not miss the significance. "Static exterior defenses consist of at least twelve turbolaser turrets on the exterior of the facility itself, with an additional four asteroid laser batteries and four asteroid warhead launchers hidden within the asteroid field. We don't have an exact estimate of mobile defenses, but being what it is, we can expect to encounter anti-starfighter drones; possibly anti-capital drones.
"I've been told to expect that drone resistance will be at a minimum if at all possible. The interior is primarily live-in scientists and researchers, but they do have a sixty-man security detail. I was told to inform you that they are highly trained. As well, Mr. Anjiliac, deaths are to be kept to a minimum. That was a direct request from my superiors. The researchers, above all, are not be harmed. Barring that, we have the facility plans, locations of the weapons you will receive as promised and the items we would like.
"IS this agreeable so far?"

| Njon had only two questions for Donocha. First—and not without scathing sarcasm—how exactly did he propose that Njon's forces get anywhere near this facility, let alone inside of it? And second, what would Blackfire itself be doing to help? Njon didn't say so, but he found it suspect that Blackfire didn't want to commit any of its resources to this operation; this reinforced his suspicion that it was a trap meant to decimate Cartel forces and, in the process, implicate them in some sort of anti-Imperial raid. He found it hard enough to believe that this was a private facility, not an Imperial one. Since when did the Empire permit a private company to operate this kind of fortress setup?
Needless to say, his people were double-checking Donocha's information almost before the Blackfire agent had finished uttering it. And Njon himself would ask his Imperial contact during their next smoking session about the patrols in this MZX32905 system, not being particularly eager to send his ships into the path of an Imp destroyer. In the meantime, though, the Hutt wanted answers from Donocha and waited for them with arms folded and a frown almost as wide as Donocha was tall.

| To answer the first question, Sixteen was already prepared. He laid out that Blackfire had a contact within the facility itself. Obviously the approach would not be an easy one, but the plan was to jump in very close to the station and engage it directly to neutralize defenses. Naturally, the asteroid batteries and warhead launchers would be a threat they could not target until they opened fire first and this was where Blackfire would help the Huttese forces.
"We'll be committing a number of corvette assets and a squadron of snubfighters to this operation, as well as a number of transports. This is most assuredly a private operation. It's a research and development center, as I mentioned, Mr. Anjiliac. The Imperial forces belonging to the Kanz Sector make a patrol perhaps once every three weeks or so, but they never stray close because they don't want undue attention drawn there." Sixteen's words, of course, might well be able to be verified by Njon's contact as well.
"Getting inside will be an easy enough matter. All we need to do is get a transport or three inside. Once that's done, the place is practically ours to take what we want."Added (12 Jul 2012, 12:19 PM) --------------------------------------------- ( Bump. )

| (( I feel bad this and other threads have been held up so long because of me. In accordance with this post (last paragraph), I think it'd be for the best if I back out of this thread. If it's okay with you, I'd like to auto it to a logical conclusion. So, to be up front with my intentions for the thread: Njon would have gone along with Blackfire's plan, with 2 minor deviations; 1.) Njon would send people ahead to scout the area and be sure there aren't Imperial forces (or Blackfire ships, or Vigilance ships either) waiting to ambush him, and 2.) Upon arrival, he'd have his ships lay waste to the asteroid field surrounding the facility, simply blasting a path through it and wrecking the asteroid defenses in the process. Before I go on, is this okay so far? ))

| (( Okay, cool. So, as you know from our conversation in Messenger, at that point Njon's ships would continue shooting, now at the facility itself with the intent to destroy it completely. Njon, being as much a businessman as he is a criminal, would have come to the conclusion that a superweapon could only be bad for business, and any possible use of it would bring the Empire down on him; instead, he would see an opportunity here to deny Blackfire something that it wants, since Njon doesn't consider Blackfire and the Cartel to be "even" from Blackfire's intrusion into Hutt Space.
Anyway, the aforementioned ships that Njon had sent to scout the periphery of the system would converge on the scene as reinforcements in case Blackfire's ships open fire on the Hutt task force. But even if they do, I imagine this would happen fast—the facility would be hit hard, and Njon's ships would be on the move as fast as possible, back to Hutt Space. ))

| (( The base itself is still armed, mind you, and even with the lowered security thanks to the Citadel, the base would likely throw out a squadron of two of the Interceptor-class planetary defense drones. It's an open tossup to you as to how the battle goes and whether or not the base is totally destroyed or just severely worked over after it loses the defensive asteroid batteries. Barring that, I'm sure we can work out the nitty-gritty details. Incidentally, if the base is blown, it would be best to have as many ships on the fringes as possible. Both of those zero point warheads going off at the same time is going to create a very large and nasty explosion. ))
