The Alpha Squadron was deep in the space, having launched from one of the Libs' outposts so it wouldn't be so hard on fuel. There were ten fighters in total: 1 F-302, 5 Z-95s, and 4 cloakshapes. Black Sheep had executed his plan, and the top squadron in the Libs are expected to carry them out. It has been a while since his pilots had been in action. The Libs had to lay low for the time being, but no more. The rebellion were small, but they were ready to wage war against the most powerful military and navy in the galaxy. "You okay there, Alpha Four?" Ben had spoke through the radiotransmitter, toward one of the pilots. The only response he received was a "Yes, sir." He still was getting used to the fact that he was younger than all of the pilots in the Alpha Squadron.

The only reason he was given command was because of his combat flying exploits as a former pirate. He was a young gun, and perhaps thats what the rebellion needs. This time, they weren't going to rescue someone. They were going to hit someone...or rather someplace. The Alpha Squadron were casually flying toward Kaer Orbital Platform. It served as ship refueling station for the Confederacy during the Clone Wars. Then it was taken over by the then-Republic forces. Most likely, it would continue to serve under the Empire.

As the fighters were heading for the station from the outer edges of the system, the F-302 would speed ahead of the rest of the squadron. The unique fighter's capabilities made it rival TIE fighters, but it was the only one in the entire galaxy. Thus, a single fighter cannot turn the tide of the war, there would have to be more. For now, a single F-302 was enough. Captain Amir would arm a couple of concussion missiles, hoping that his flying exploits carried over to the Imperial ears and draw the TIEs away from the others. Soon, he pushed the ship to maximum speed. He would approach the station much faster than Z-95s or cloakshapes could have.

They weren't there to take over the station, simply to cripple Imperial refueling efforts in this particular area of the galaxy.

Kaer was useful as a refueling station during the war, when enormous numbers of capital ships were traversing the Outer Rim during the years-long, eponymous sieges. It was less useful now that the Empire had conquered the Outer Rim and built infrastructure to refuel and repair its ships across the whole galaxy. But it had also been useful as a dump for supplies; weapons mostly, when the war was on. These days, mostly non-perishable consumables and some medical supplies. But even so, there wasn't much on the Kaer Orbital Platform. Today, it was uninhabited—except for 2 squadrons of TIE fighters and a disused Tartan-class patrol cruiser. The TIE's made regular patrols of the area, while the Tartan remained parked on its landing pad in (increasingly) poor condition. Shooting mynocks was the only recreation on the lonely platform.

No one was in charge of the place. Flight officer Hait, a young, blonde-haired man and distinguished pilot, was in charge of the TIE squadrons. Captain Loomis was in command of the Tartan, but only concerned himself with sabaacc games in the Captain's quarters. So Hait was as much "in charge" as anyone.

When Ben Amir's squadron arrived, Hait and his TIE squadron were in the air on a routine patrol. They'd done it so many times they could do it asleep (and sometimes did), but they'd be surprised to see Amir's squadron. Any ships would be strange, a squadron of starfighters with hot shields was especially strange. "Group A, Group B, form up on me! Scramble squadron 2! Loomis, send a distress call!" Hait barked into his helmet comm, hoping the Captain was listening. Hait was in a flight of 6 TIE's ("Group A") while the other 6 in the squadron were in another ("Group B") on the other side of the platform. They were "Squadron 1." "Squadron 2" was back on Kaer, its pilots either asleep or losing their power packs to Loomis in one of the Captain's card games. Either way, it would take a moment to get the other 12 fighters in the air; for the time being, it was Hait and his 11 other TIE's against Ben Amir's squadron.

The TIE's formed loosely around Hait's fighter, remaining in two distinct groups of 6 as they set a course to intercept Amir's motley squadron of fighters. As they did so, they flew an oblique approach to Amir's squadron, an attempt to circle around the attackers and not to plant themselves in Amir's crosshairs; they weren't going to make this that easy for him. "Unidentified fighters," Hait said over an open frequency, "You're in restricted space. Change course to three-fifty-niner or you will be fired upon."

Castor Vax had met with the Libs, having rescued two of their more prominent members and had even met directly with the infamous Black Sheep himself, Tremaine Fowlkes. He'd pledged what support he could to what missions the Libs ran when he wasn't involved in his own attacks against the Empire. In this case, the help that had been promised to the Libs arrived a bit late, but arrive it did. Two squadrons of snubfighters, one of R-41s and one of Y-wings, escorted by a Starrunner-class transport emerged from hyperspace. From the transport, the crisp snap of Vax's 'command voice' would be heard over Amir's headset.

"Sorry we're late, Alpha Lead. A little turbulence, so to speak. Mark us some targets and we'll pave the way for you."

The Alpha Squadron were approaching the TIEs, but wouldn't want to allow them to circle around the freedom fighters. The Captain would definitely notice that, and would order the squadron to change their course with Amir already ahead of the rest of his squadron. He was eager for the fight he had been craving since the Alpha Squadron had famously fended the Imperials off in the process of rescuing Baird. They were going to have another chance at victory. What's stopping them, however, is that the TIE fighters are superior to every fighter of his squadron except for his own fighter. The difference in combat is probably that the Empire considered their pilots fodder. The Libs holds their own pilots in high value.

Which is why the Alpha Squadron, and every other squadron in the rebellion, were taught to always fight their best. Captain Amir was about to respond to the Imperial pilots when their sensors had picked up new fighters in the system. His first thought were that they were Imperial reinforcements. Then suddenly, he thought to himself. "Wait a minute, the TIEs can't fly in hyperspace." His suspicions were quickly confirmed by a voice of someone friendly. It was General Vax and his men, a possibly valuable ally. "Roger that. We'll keep the fighters off your backs. We need your ship to spit out as much damage as you can on that station."

The F-302 would pull a spin and moved straight for the Imperials already patrolling the area. He would then open a general channel, "Sorry buddy, we're here for democracy and for freedom." As soon as the transmission was cut off, the fighter would launch a couple of protons torpedoes with the rest of Alpha Squadron about to arrive in a few moments. The F-302 kept going straight while his squadron broke in half, one attempting to go to the right and one to the left. The freedom fighters were hoping to surround the fighters. If that didn't work, well, keeping them off Vax's back has to be enough. Either way, an intense dogfight could be in place.

The sudden appearance of the additional ships in the thread without prior notice after the combatants had already established a fair and equitable number of forces present representing generous restraint on the Imperial side caused Flight Officer Hait to re-think his strategy, such as it was. It occurred to the supremely self-confident Hait that his TIE squadrons could defeat the current bogies as well as the new ones, but almost certainly at an unacceptable cost to his men. The TIE fighter was superior to all of these others, with the possible exception of the "unidentified" fighter on his scopes and, of course, the Starrunner transport. But without Captain Loomis and his Tartan—still languishing on its landing pad—most of the TIE's would be destroyed in the process.

He considered an immediate retreat, but as the so-called Alpha Squadron did precisely what Hait had expected them to—break formation and chase after them instead of hitting Kaer itself—he had no choice but to engage and hope that Loomis got his ass in the air, or at least sent a distress call. Hait's TIE's continued on their path, staying just out of the Libs' targeting sights. Since the Libs' fighters were stated to have turned to follow the TIE's and fired proton torpedoes, and since they had no torpedo lock on the TIE's, it can only be assumed that the barrage of missiles sailed harmlessly into the depths of space.

As the Libs began to close the distance to the TIE's, Hait ordered one of the TIE groups of 6 to break sharply to starboard—again, an attempt to circle around the rebel fighters or else draw them away. The TIE fighter was a wonder of maneuverability; it could easily turn sharply enough to keep the Libs' crosshairs just behind them—for now.

Hait ignored the newcomers for the time being, shooting off a message to Squadron B, approaching from the other side of the platform and better-positioned to deal with them, to take potshots at the R-41's and Y-wing's even before they were within range, to demand their attention and "throw the gauntlet down," as it were. Hait knew that Montoya, the Junior Flight Officer in command of Squadron B, was crazy enough to take a good fight to them and, like Hait, wouldn't charge them head-on and make themselves easy targets.

Meanwhile, an angry Captain Loomis was interrupted from his sabbacc game with the news, slammed his winning hand on the table and ordered everyone to battlestations. Once on the bridge of his Tartan, however, he ordered all power concentrated to shields and remained where he was, duly sending a distress call to any Imperial forces in the vicinity.

Captain Needa had a look of weary surprise on his face as he was informed of the distress call. He'd been shaving at the time, one side of his boyishly clean-shaven face looking rather more barbate than usual as he stepped onto the bridge of the Carrack-class light cruiser Integrity a few moments later. "At ease, at ease," he said with a dismissive, half-salute. "How far is it?" he asked, his Coruscanti accent a familiar sound on the cramped bridge.

Needa's Lieutenant stood at ease. "About 20 minutes if we're underway shortly," he reported, turning to read from a screen at the communications station as he continued. "A Captain Loomis stationed at the Kaer Orbital Platform has reported a starfighter attack and requested assistance," the Lieutenant said.

Needa nodded, clasping his hands behind his back. "Communications, inform Ferrelia that we'll be late. Navigations, plot us a course. Jump to hyperspace when ready."

"Yes, Captain Needa."

(( My sincere apologies for hopping in sort of unannounced here and on the other thread. I figured that Erik wouldn't mind the help largely because, and I mean no insult to him on this, but the Libs have shit when it comes to luck attacking stuff and in general causing rebellious activities. The other reason was that Tremaine and Castor did rather pledge aide to one-another and a caveat to my last request was that I help keep the rebellion element alive. If you'd prefer I withdraw from the thread, I will do so, but if not, consider the following post to stand. ))

From Vax's point, the Libs' maneuver had rather stripped them of the protection offered by staying en mass to assault the TIEs, which did have superior maneuverability. The long-range shots against Vax's pair of squadrons did little than irk the pilots; perhaps a lucky splash against some shields. The TIE pilots were plucky, Vax gave them that much as he observed the tactical sensors aboard the Saber's Glow, his Starrunner transport. Unfortunately, the Starchasers had something the TIEs didn't: warhead capabilities.

Each R-41 locked a pair of concussion missiles upon an opposing TIE fighter (of Squadron Bravo) and fired at maximum warhead distance. This, ideally, would give the TIEs something to think about and in effect paved the way to Kaer Station. The Libs, working under Tremaine, were slightly soft in Vax's personal opinion. While they might have intended to cripple the station, Vax fully intended on doing his best to destroy it. That was where the squadron of Y-wings came in at, being led by the squadron of R-41s. In a matter of minutes if all went well, perhaps less, they'd be in a position to engage the station at long-range. The place was massive enough that they may not even require locking on to it.

"Captain Amir, I suggest that you deal with your opposing forces quickly. It would appear they've sent a distress call out and I don't plan on being here when backup arrives." This wasn't intended to be a firefight, or even a long engagement. Simple hit-and run would suffice.

A simple hit-and-run operation was also in Captain Amir's plans. They made the mistake of breaking formation. While Ben may have been the best pilot in the Libs, he was also the youngest of all. Sometimes, youth shows in this situation. The pilot had no choice but to keep on the course for the opposing fighters. Their maneuverability worked against the Z-95s and the Cloakshapes, but not the F-302. His personal fighter simply pulled a hard starboard to pursue one of the fighters, but the rest were slower to try and force themselves upon the rear of the TIEs. That's when the F-302 had a target lock. Instead of firing a missile, he'd user laser bolts to shoot at them. He wanted to spray as many laser bolts as possible in order to assist his pilots in getting rid of the TIEs.

"Roger that. After we deal with the fighters, we'll do our best to clear the way for your escape." While the Libs were trained to be equals, they also know it's also valuable to keep a Jedi alive. Even a lone Jedi could do a serious damage upon the Empire. Some of his pilots managed to fend the TIEs off, some still had them on their backs. Ben didn't want to lose any of his pilots, but that soon would happen. The Captain hoped that Vax would be quick to hit the station, they aren't equipped to deal with bigger ships of the Empire.

I'd say it's a bit after tomorrow. However, with Tremaine on break and Jess running the Libs, I'm willing to help with the military operations side of things, so if there be no post here tonight or some head's up, I'd like to continue if that's alright. ))

(( Didn't see that before. Word though is that Erik won't be back for a while and he asked Jess to run the Libs. As such, I told her I'd help with some of the militaristic side of things. Your call though. ))

I'd like to wrap this thread up as soon as possible, so the Libs could move on to bigger things. Please post on this, or either me or Vax will get around to wrapping this thread up.))
