Brentaal Nobles Join Boycott of Stark Wedding
Leading members of Brentaal's noble houses have joined a noble boycott of the controversial wedding of former Lorrdian noble Alyn Stark to "commoner" Ana Riley, a servant from Naboo. Stark, born a member of Lorrd's noble House Malos, is already a reviled figure among many nobles for his repudiation of his family name. Many of the same nobles, "in solidarity with House Malos," are refusing to attend Stark's wedding to Riley, a former aide to Representative Vanden of Naboo who has been described in tabloids as a "house maid." One tabloid on Serenno reported this week that three catering companies have refused to cater for the event.
"If Mr. Stark wants to marry the maid, that's his business. I won't have anything to do with it," Lady Estella ur'Tsyne, a matriarch of House Cambrist, told the Brentaal Trade News. "Mr. Stark has shown us all time and again that he always does what he wants, even if it's not legal." Added Lady Estella: "And even if it brings yet more shame on his poor family than his birth has already caused them."
Nobles from Serenno, Kuat, the Tapani Sector, and the Senex-Juvex worlds have also announced they will boycott the wedding. A member of Lorrd's House Malos, sympathetic to Mr. Stark, told the Trade News that "many of the nobles refusing to attend the wedding weren't invited to it anyway." Families, Shareholders Demand Answers as Vigilance Stock Falls
Family members of a dozen slain employees at a "top secret" Vigilance Technologies, Inc. research facility in the Kanz Sector that was destroyed in a pirate raid last month are demanding answers from Vigilance about what exactly their loved ones did for the company and whether it had done enough to protect them. Some have refused generous compensation payments, citing the "lack of closure" and raising the possibility of a lawsuit.
Shareholders, too, are demanding answers from Alyn Stark, the CEO of the company, about the "top secret facility" that many of them weren't aware of, the destruction of which has caused a hit to Vigilance shares. "Mr. Stark needs to explain to us what this secret facility was for and more importantly, how, if it was so secret, did pirates find it?"
"Several drones were stolen as well as a number of experimental warheads standing by for testing in the hope of sale to Imperial forces," a spokesman for Vigilance Technologies, Inc. told reporters. The Brentaal Trade News has sent inquiries to Moff Shirnoq of the Kanz Sector, asking whether he was aware of the "secret" facility operating in his space and whether there will be an Imperial investigation into the theft of these dangerous weapons. BTN will follow up on the story as it develops. Two Poachers Rescued in Gravaal Mountains, Six Dead
Two poachers, the only surviving members of an 8-man party from the nearby city of Cormond, were rescued in the Gravaal mountain range this morning after an attempt to steal the eggs of Brentaal's enormous, predatory Kundrils ended in disaster. The eggs of Kundrils, an endangered, winged insect species, are considered a delicacy and worth a small fortune in Cormond's culinary row. Poachers often risk life and limb to find them in coastal mountain ranges, where Kundrils typically nest.
Kundrils, often larger than twenty meters and known to prey on whales and other large creatures, are extremely dangerous when threatened. The well-equipped poaching party was reportedly overwhelmed by a flight of Kundrils despite their use of repeating blaster rifles. Six poachers are believed killed, and the two rescued were transported to a medcenter in Cormond, dehydrated and exhausted.
