A Meeting with Senator Ray

| Marten Flagg had gained a bit of fame during his capture by the Weathers brothers and his subsequent rescue in Garang that had left one of the Weathers brothers dead and the second (and far nicer brother) fled. The story, one may assume, might have raised him in the eyes of the locals. Or it might not have. In Flagg's own eyes though, he'd survived a dangerous thing, albeit at the loss of one of his bodyguards who'd been with him for some time.
Not for the first time, he reflected that life as an intelligence analyst for the military had been far less troublesome. The only good news he'd received was that with all the changes in the Cronese Mandate and the demilitarizing and opening of borders, his Silver Pendant casino chains were no longer held to be illegal, and so he planned to expand within the Cronese Mandate. However, the need was also here to provide something for the folk of Dantooine; a folk he sympathized with.
It was this thought that brought him to the first of two meetings, this one aimed at Senator Exar Ray, whose office he sat just outside right now, having informed the secretary three days prior of his intent to have a meeting, if Senator Ray was available.

| Senator Ray sat in his office on Dantooine and was well aware of his meeting with Mr. Flagg. His secretary would receive a call to allow Mr. Flagg into his office, however being that Exar knew the type of person that Flagg was (or atleast pretended to know), the Militia would be called and a patrol would be stationed very close to the building; of course however, this call would be made once Flagg stepped into Exar's office. The secretary looked up at Mr. Flagg and nodded. "Marten, the Administrator will be seein' you now" She would say with a big smile on her face as she would hit the buzzer to allow him to enter the room.

| There was no real reason for the Senator to suspect Flagg of being anything other than a casino owner. Despite his unfortunate part as a hostage during the Sulem robbery, he'd acquitted himself since then. When the secretary buzzed him through, Flagg tipped an imaginary hat to her with a smile, straightened the tie on his freshly cleaned suit and strode into the senator's office.
"Senator Ray, a pleasure to meet you at last. I'm rather glad we have this chance and that I'm not face-down under a pile of hog droppings somewhere." Flagg chuckled as he extended his hand in greeting towards the man.

| As Mr. Flagg entered the Administrator's Office, the Militia patrol would take point outside the building. As Flagg would notice walking in, the office of Exar Ray was rather plain. Sure, there was a desk with Exar sitting behind it, but behind him was a banner of Dantooine, hanging from the ceiling. However, no true Imperial markings besides the ones on the data-pads scattered around his desk were around. "I'm sure after our meeting, you'll want to drop someone's face in some droppings." Exar would shoot back as he would drop the data-pad he was viewing and stand to shake his hand. "Mr. Flagg, here on Dantooine, I am Administrator Ray, or Exar for short... whichever fits your vocabulary. And being an elderly man, the title Senator rather offends me when not doing my duties on Corus... Imperial Center." The hint of distaste would escape Exar's voice. "However, I'm sure you've had more fun then you care to have here on Dantooine, but I'm sure there is something I can do for you?" Exar would lean back in his chair. However, should anything during the meeting happen, there was various security options that the office was equipped with; one of those options being a blaster pistol directly underneath Exar's desk.

| Accepting Ray's hand with a brief, firm squeeze and pump, Flagg let the man's hand go. "Exar, then, unless you prefer Administrator Ray? And please, call me Marten if we're to be on a first-name basis." Despite all the security precautions Ray had, understandable on a world like Dantooine, Flagg was unarmed and his intent was hardly to harm Ray; if anything, he wanted Ray to remain hale and hearty.
"I'd like to have your opinion, and if possible, for you to sign the papers I need for a business venture. I do not expect you to know, but I own several casinos within the Cronese Mandate; the Silver Pendant Casino chain. I'd like to erect a casino here on Dantooine, to help draw tourists and to keep your own people amused."

| Listening to his purposeful, the Administrator simply nodded a little bit. "A casino..." He muttered taking some seconds to think about it. "Marten, while I applaud the idea, honestly I think a casino would have quite the different effect here on Dantooine; we aren't a core planet that has a very booming economy as well as billions of population. People here like what they do, and I would rather not see them pissing away their earnings at a casino." He leaned closer. "As for tourists, a casino would help that too, but we get a decent amount that want to come here for the right reason, not to attract the trash associated with casinos."
"If you want to put up a casino here, you'll have to do better."

| "Fair enough Exar," Flagg said, still at ease. "Let me put it to you this way. The only gambling dens on your world are owned by a Hutt. His reputation notwithstanding, it would do good to see more recreation-type facilities run by humans. I also feel that it would be beneficial for Dantooine to have something more than a hole-in-the-ground gambling den when they could have something more. The Silver Pendant Casino style incorporates a multitude of activities for the entire family; not just gambling for people to waste money on. It's a full-on recreational center.
"Now, while Dantooine's population is smaller than most, that simply means we jut downsize the facility a bit."

| "Sounds to me that you're attempting to make a quick credit off of my people." Exar grumbled as his leaned forward in his chair. "I'm sorry, however your argument is not valid based on the sole fact that you do not reside here on Dantooine." He nodded a little. "There is nothing wrong with a Hutt operating a gambling den; if anything I'd say your intentions are more greedy then his. The people that conduct activities there are of age and have been going there for a long time. Needless to say they are a welcomed addition to Dantooine." "Your chain on the other hand, just seems like an attempt to stir up problems that I ultimately have to settle. Casinos are dangerous, and I have seen the issues associated with these chains. Sure, these dens cause issues, however throw in your casino and now my issues have tripled. So for the safety of my people and my planet, I cannot and will not allow you to build your brand here."
"And if you took the time to view Dantooine, you'll see that we have plenty of activities for the families, that are free of charge. Now unless you can really inspire me... I'm going to ask you to make your way back to wherever you need to be."

| "Someone once said that, 'Greed is good.' A Mr. Gekko, I believe. Everyone feels greed in one way or another, Exar. It's what motivates people to do more so they can have more. Intending no offense to yourself or Dantooine, but a solitary casino-type facility here in your capitol is highly unlikely to bring about some form of crime wave. The Silver Pendant casinos are well-cared for affairs that are both well-constructed and well-protected, designed for the comfort and ease of the guest and guaranteed to bring more revenue. My final reason to inspire you then, Exar, is the wealthy investors; powerfully wealthy investors, who are willing to invest long-term in Dantooine to see the casino built. Dantooine is an up-and-coming planet when it comes to development.

| "Then if they want to invest, Marten... they will do so based on what me and my government have to offer them... not because of some casino... no matter how powerful they may be." Exar would shoot back. "Greed may be good, but it also can get you killed in the blink of an eye my good friend. While I agree that Dantooine is up-and-coming, I am ensuring that it's growth is balanced and not to fast. So unfortunately, I cannot sign off on your casino..."

| "If you cannot then you cannot," Flagg said, his tone still light. "In a worse-case scenario, I considered Camooine as an alternative. This will allow for all citizens of the sector to enjoy the casino. I thank you for seeing me out and hearing my proposal."

Nonetheless, Dantooine now has one less outlaw to deal with." With a brief laugh, Flagg stood and offered Exar his hand. "I'm sorry we couldn't come to a more successful conclusion about all of this. Nonetheless, if all goes well, you will be welcome to my facility on Camooine any day."
