| The Calder's Spring Massacre, as it would later be known, got its name from a spring near the cold, desert border of the Frezen and Kinyov Provinces on Lorrd where a congregation of a hundred Vianists fleeing persecution in the city of Frezen had been turned back by the Kinyov Province's border patrols. Having braved the elements during their long, overland journey, not to mention Lord Bowe's dragoons on the prowl for Vianists, and having a number of young and old among their number, the party had nowhere else to go once it'd been turned away from Kinyov. Calder's Spring would at least be a source of water and a place to make camp.
They arrived in the late evening and were very soon beset with illness, Bowe's dragoons having already poisoned the spring the day before to discourage exactly this sort of behavior. A rear-guard spotted the Vianists and called in the rest of his party of dragoons, who made for Calder's Spring and arrived there near to midnight.
Who shot first remains a mystery. The dragoons, to a man, insist it was the Vianists, though they weren't known to be carrying weapons at the time. But once started, the heavily-armed dragoons made quick work of the Vianist refugees, bedraggled as they were. Of those who remained, all were killed. Some attempted to flee, and of them two more were killed but another pair, a husband and wife, the former wounded, had fled into the night back to the Kinyov Province border, where the border guards would encounter them, poisoned, wounded, near-dead, in the early hours of the morning.

| The Kinyov Province Defense Forces had heard the rather distant yet echoing reports of blaster fire through the cold, crisp desert night. When they found the husband and wife pair in the morning, there was no question as to what had happened. The group they'd turned back had likely been set upon by Lord Bowe's dragoons and dealt with. However, Lord Stark had issued a nonintervention policy with the Vianists from the Frezen Province. As such, there was naught the border guard could or would truly do. The husband and wife pair would be taken into protective custody and treated as best they could be. If they survived they would be deported to Lorrd II. If they perished, then that was simply that.
