| From the Wookieepedia page on the Cronese Mandate
"The Tion Cluster eventually joined the Old Republic and, in the Republic's final years, the Cluster joined the CIS. In retaliation, the Empire divided it in three sectors.[2] "
Could we please have a clarification by what process it left the Republic and what degree of support there was among the locals. A lot of rhetoric has been bounced back and forth in the Senate and clarification would be nice.

| Okay, so, having consulted each other on this we've come with the following, which is based on the best information available to us (which isn't much). We've also considered the statements that have been made in the Senate and come up with something here that doesn't conflict with them too much (obviously someone needed to be wrong, to some extent).
So, "the Tion Cluster" as a whole is stated to have supported the Confederacy. The Cronese, as Robeir et. al. have noted, make up either the majority or a large plurality of the Tion Cluster so it's not conceivable that the Cluster as a whole could have supported the Confederacy without a significant number of Cronese also supporting the Confederacy. The Tion Hegemony is described as "dominated by the Separatists" and, indeed, Dooku more or less "began" the Confederacy from the Hegemony. That the Tion Hegemony supported the Confederacy is without a doubt. That some Cronese supported the Confederacy is also without doubt, thus we're going with a more-or-less even 50/50 spread among the Cronese of support for the Confederacy and support for the Republic, with a slight pro-Separatist preference. This lets us assume the Allied Tion Sector tended to be loyal to the Republic, as some evidence shows us it was.
This would explain the Empire dividing the Tion Cluster as it did; the Tion Hegemony supported the Confederacy the most, obviously. Allied Tion, a more reliably pro-Imperial sector. And the Cronese Mandate, divided in its affiliation and thus worth trying to "win over" with territory based on its historical lines rather than subjugating an entire culture residing on 400+ worlds, which, as it happens, are valuable to the Empire.
We think this is the most logical background for this region. Hopefully it's satisfactory to everyone. (50/50 is within the margin of error, so if someone wants to claim "most Cronese were loyal" or "most Cronese were Separatists," both can reasonably do so, though the reality that polls might not have been able to gauge is that a slight edge must have supported the Confederacy for the calculus to work and remain consistent with what we know of the canon. In my own opinion, it's probable that the Cronese had a Separatist sympathizer as King during the Clone Wars and that the current Robeir is who the Empire allowed to replace him).
