I remain doubtful. The incident is heinous, to be sure, but even though you and I as compassionate beings have reason to presume this man's guilt, I still do not believe that the Senate of the New Republic should be presuming his guilt in an official resolution. Justice is blind and dispassionate, and it supposes that a man is innocent until a court has deemed him guilty. This is one of the founding principles of the New Republic, and it must be respected for all beings, no matter how reprehensible we believe them to be. Section 2 continues to suppose the man's guilt, and I must continue to oppose it. If, however, the wording were changed to "his alleged crimes," I would not oppose this.

Section 5, with all due respect, is not a necessary response. It is unnecessary, and it is inappropriate. It would deem as illegitimate the elected government of Baltimn simply because one of its members—and an honorary member, at that—seems to have been responsible for what is, again, without doubt, a heinous crime. This would be similar to calling you illegitimate, Senator Kruus, supposing that some trade monarch of the Purse Worlds were to commit a similar crime, Force forbid. It is one thing to demand the criminal pay for his crime. It is another to demand the innocent men and women that comprise Baltimn's government also pay for the criminal's crime.

This incident offends the conscience of all compassionate beings. But still, we must not act in haste and disregard our principles.

The government of Mowgle sends our condolences to the families of the victims and the victims themselves. It is indeed a tragedy, and must be answered. However, I must agree with Senator Vanden here. The Section 2 is implying that the man is guilty of such crime. Senator Vanden's right, everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I vote against the motion for the same reasons stated by Senator Vanden.

If a former Jedi is indeed responsible for the atrocities, then shouldn't we bring the New Jedi Order into this? I move to submit a motion that Master Skywalker send his Jedi Knights to coordinate with our NRI officers in investigating this matter and, if possible, apprehending the former Jedi before he does any more damage.
