Concerning Neimoidia

Gentlebeings of the Senate, before I speak on this matter, I ask that these records be closed to the public until the matter at hand is dealt with. This is an important issue and I would not have it leaked to the public yet.

At present, Baltimn is conducting an ongoing investigation of the Neimoidian officers and soldiers placed by Senator Kruus at Baltimn's various spaceports. It appears quite possible that Neimoidia is acting to obstruct justice in the trial of Duke Drasek Cale.

Less than a day ago, a freighter arrived bearing a package for the Baltimn Defense Council, care of myself, apparently. The package was said to contain a holodisk, a severed hand and a damaged lightsaber. This account has been stated by the freighter captain and his two sons. It was then that they stated the Neimoidian guard took the package to his superior and no more was heard of it.

Colonel Pollon of the Baltimn Security Forces was contacted by customs regarding the vessel and, upon contacting the Neimoidian dock officer, was informed it was only a shipment of, pardon if you will, but a shipment of erotic items. The Neimoidians will not agree or deny the true contents of the case.

At this time I ask the Senate to remove Neimoidia from Baltimn for the duration of this trial, or until investigation of Neimoidian involvement on obstructing justice is complete.

I object to the suggestion that the venerable world of Neimoidia has had any deliberate role in obstructing justice in the Baltimn affair, and with all due respect to the Legate from Baltimn, I believe that it is irresponsible to suggest this to the Senate with the flimsy evidence or, rather, the hearsay that you have cited. Even if the contents of this package were as you say, there is no reason to believe it has anything to do with the trial of Mr. Cale as you brazenly claim. And with regard to "removing Neimoidia" from Baltimn, I remind the good Ambassador that it was his government's agreement with Neimoidia, as I understand it, that placed Neimoidian port masters on your world. The New Republic hardly has a role in abrogating a contract between two private parties, particularly when one of the two has declared that it wants no part in the Republic at all.

Furthermore, I question why it is exactly that Ambassador Stomwell had sent to him either A.) a severed hand and a damaged lightsaber, or B.) "erotic items." I cannot decide which of these is the more indecorous, and I demand an explanation from the Ambassador.

In any case, it is most certainly not proper for the proceedings of the Senate to be made secret. Perhaps the good Ambassador is concerned that, if these proceedings are to be public, he might slander the reputations of certain Senators or New Republic worlds? If that is the case, however, if he believes he has a case to make then he should make it in a court of justice, not the Senate. The fact that he would raise this subject here, not in court, suggests to me that the Ambassador does not believe that he has a compelling case against Neimoidia at all and that this is, in fact, a cynical attempt to tarnish that world's reputation.

Senator Cambrist, does it not strike you as odd coincidence that a lightsaber and a severed hand, along with unviewed data arrive at the time of an important trial? After all, Drasek Cale was a former Jedi Knight. It strikes me as it could have been evidence. Evidence that is now likely lost.

Secondly, Baltimn only wants its approval process tabled pending this trial. Afterwards, we have every intention of joining the New Republic, should we still be allowed to do so. Our agreement with Neimoidia was between our worlds, yes, but I do not believe they will simply up and leave for a few months if we ask nicely.

The package in question that arrived though, I have no clue as to why it was sent to my care. I can assure you it was not erotic items though.

I am concerned about the issue of possible slander as we do not have definite proof yet. That is why I bring it up here and not yet in the courts till further proof is found. If I only wanted to accuse Senator Kruus or Neimoidia of random things, it would not be on this issue.

It does strike me as an odd coincidence, Ambassador. But because something is an odd coincidence is not a basis to declare, therefore, that Neimoidia has obstructed justice. I do not know whether the contents of this package were evidence in the trial of Mr. Cale and, I daresay, neither do you. Having not seen the contents yourself, it seems even more odd that you would "assure" us they were not erotic items. For all you, I, or even the freighter captain know, what appeared to be a severed hand and a lightsaber might easily have been some variety of depraved sex toys; the holodisc could have contained Pantoran pornography, a cybernetic hand may be put to many vulgar uses, and a lightsaber hilt is a phallic object.

In any case, you have only confirmed what I suspected; that you are attempting to "find proof" for a conclusion that you have already formed.

Chief of State, I ask that the "Ambassador" of the unrecognised Government of Baltimn be recalled from the chamber of the Senate.

I have no idea what this nonsense is about? Accusing Neimoidia of Inapropriate handling of a piece of mail? Stop wasting the senates time on such trifles. This is simply a waste of time from a corrupt and despotic regime, attempting to dismantle the legitimate Neimoidian control of their ports.

Mr Stomwell,

Mr Kruus is correct in his assertion that you are not eligible to speak in this chamber at this time, as such you are ejected until such a time as this senate, or the Diplomatic Office of the New Republic recognises your Government.
