As he stood in the turbolift, he thought upon the past, upon what he had done. He was a farcry from the man he once was. Ten years ago, he was a man that did the blackest of NRI's operations in the capacity of a Jedi, working within the Jedi Code. Now, after ten years of dealing with some of the New Republic's gravest threats, Novak, not that he would be a threat but the begining of a legacy, Desann, the Disciples of Ragnos, the Empire Reborn, the Yevetha, and the final various schemes and operations of the Remnant. It all culminated in a man who was a Jedi, but one that operated within the bounds of NRI. A man who made solutions to the Republic's problems, solutions that it didn't need to know happened to problems it didn't want people to know existed. In the end, that was the mission of Shadow Force, publically known as the Commission for Public Ssafety Assurance. He was the only member of the Commission with a known NRI background, and a Jedi to boot, but the public was merely left to assume he was merely included due to this unique background and merely giving the advisement such bodies would give.

It was this man, who had opted in wearing a black New Republic duty uniform, with the only true marking being muted grey pins of the New Republic emblem on the collar, no other markings existing on the uniform. The pins were a formality to let people know he was on official New Republic business, typically even those would not be there. He would normally, if wearing a New Republic uniform, would be wearing a sterilized variant. With a gentle halt to the upward motion, he stepped out of the turbolift, and went down the hall, and then into the outer room to the Senator's office. He walked in, observing the room and those in it, and approached the secretary. "Colonel Park, New Republic Intelligence. I'm here to speak with Senator Cambrist." he said, matter of factly, if not distantly.

Cambrist's receptionist, an E-3PO droid that had glanced at Park in a manner that seemed somehow to be condescending, was preempted by Cambrist himself as the Senator appeared in the open doorway to his inner office—appearing shorter than he did on the holonet, one might note. "Yes," he said simply, "Come in, please." The office was very large, very broad, and mostly empty, and its sweeping, curved walls and viewports all converged on Cambrist's desk, where he now seated himself. The combined effect of this was to lend authority and a certain majesty to the man seated at the desk, and make his visitors feel, ironically, small before him. The color scheme of the room was predominantly regal greens, whites, and golds—the colors of House Cambrist—and the decorum and portraits on the walls seemed to call upon thousands of years of Brentaal's long, proud history.

Cambrist's face, too, perhaps for this occasion, was both long and proud. He frowned at Park for a moment as if trying to discern everything about the man, his personality, and his history simply from his demeanor. It was a noble habit; that is, noble in lineage, not in virtue. "Mr. Park," he said. His voice was bland, and neither pleasant nor unpleasant. It was the voice of a man who valued his time and had no masochistic desire to have it wasted. "I will not detain you for long, for I would hope that a man such as yourself would be busy with important matters." Leave it to Cambrist to insult a man for accepting his invitation. "As it is," he went on, "I've come into possession of some information of a sensitive nature, and for reasons of my own I believe you're the man to give it to."

The Senator manipulated a control on his desk and gestured for Park to direct his attention to a holoscreen on the wall as it displayed his droid's brief conversation with the informant, Bryce Routhe. The viewport tinted accordingly, to dim the room. When the holo was finished and the light came back into the office, Cambrist was wearing a distasteful expression--as if he'd just smelled something unpleasant. He glanced back to Park. "There it is," he said. "The man contacted me about a supposed 'threat to the galaxy.' You'll find the details of that exchange have been mailed to you. As you can see from the holo, however, the man was either drunk, or else his nerve or, rather, his lack thereof seemed to upset his bowels, and he didn't say much of any use."

He leaned back and shrugged. He'd left quite a bit unsaid, such as why he would give this information to Charlie Park and, moreover, what he expected him to do with it. The way the Senator made light of it in so cavalier a manner suggested that he didn't truly care about it as much as one might expect. At least, not for the reasons one might expect. However, Cambrist prided himself on being "the only honest Senator," and if asked, he would surely answer Park candidly. Though it may not be what the Jedi Master and NRI operative wished to hear.

He sat back and sighed. 'Thanks for nothing...' he thought to himself. He took a moment to think, and then looked at Cambrist for a moment before speaking to him. "Senator, I have to ask...why give this information to me? Why not just forward it to Analysis rather than requiring a personal meeting?" he asked, as he thought back on the information. It honestly made no sense...but despite that, one thing did seem apparent...the crazies on Coruscant were certainly coming out of the woodwork.

It was impossible at this point to zero in on the source of this madness, but it seemed to somewhat fit the perp on the attempted assassination of Senator Crion. He felt that the two were somehow connected, and thankfully he had the Force to aid him. It wasn't the Force that said that however, but years of experience and honed instincts.

Cambrist shrugged. Throughout this meeting, his demeanor was far more casual, even cavalier, than it would otherwise be in the presence of Senators, diplomats, or even other bureaucrats and intelligence men. It was clear, thus, that he didn't have a particularly high opinion of Charlie Park. Considering this, Charlie's question—why him?—was a salient one indeed. "Because," he explained, waving a hand in a dismissive, imperious gesture, "I want the Jedi to have this information, because I'm certain that they will do something foolish with it and further discredit themselves to the public, and the Republic. No offense, Master Park."

He leaned back in his vast, omnipresent chair. His expression was still bland, but with a hint of malicious delight in his eyes. "I could have given it to Analysis," he said, as if reflecting on his choice of lunch, "That is what you will do, of course. As you should. But you know as well as I do that Analysis will simply file it away. It is, after all, the inane ramblings of some manic, paranoid man. Or is it? The Jedi won't think so. Thus, I supposed that you, a Jedi and a man of action—odd for a supposed bureaucrat, incidentally—would want, nay, need to provide it directly to the Jedi as well. With the consent of Intelligence, of course."

"And to be honest," he leaned forward now, hunching over his desk as he rested his elbows upon it, his hands clasped before him. His stern, unwavering stare would make anyone uncomfortable. "I wanted to introduce a bit of moral ambiguity into your mind, Mr. Park. Surely you know you're not like the other Jedi. You're more pragmatic. Far more pragmatic. What you do for the Republic is commendable, as long as you are doing it for the Republic and not for the Jedi. This, we will see. For now that you have this information, you own it—because of your unique position, it is your name and reputation that will be associated with whatever the Jedi choose to do with it."

"The question is," he raised an eyebrow, "Do you trust the Jedi to do the right thing with it? The legal thing?"

He leaned back once again, the air in the office seeming almost lighter as he did so. "Think about it," he said, pleasantly. "Also, please say hello to General Cracken for me. Although I make a point of saying hello to him whenever I hear a tell tale 'click' on my comm line. I will never know what it is he finds so interesting in my personal conversations. If there is nothing further, then I bid you good day."
