Memorandum for: Chief of State Ponc Gavrisom
Subject: Potential Hostilities at Neimoidia, Balmorra
Classification: Secret (CTX-Directive), High Priority

President Gavrisom, NRI is recieving information that an Imperial fleet believed to be affiliated with Prakith, a fortress world in the Deep Core that is not a party to the Bastion Accords, is amassing in proximity to Neimoidia which appears, at this time, to be its intended target. However, we also have reason to believe that this maneuver could be a feint intended to draw Republic forces away from an assault on Balmorra, which is near to Neimoidia (please see the chart I've included below).

Specifically, we have found evidence of a recent Imperial attempt to sabotage the theater shield generator over Bin Prime, the capital of Balmorra which, as you know, has been subjected to a number of Imperial reprisals over the years and, because of its industry and, in particular, its defense industry, it is a higher value target than Neimoidia. At this time, NRI is treating both worlds as probable targets, and we have alerted both of them and instructed the New Republic's assets in the immediate area to be on alert.

Balmorra has a number of corvettes, and Neimoidia is believed to have a small, but not insignificant number of old Lucrehulk-class freighters as well as their battleship, the Viceroy Kruus, which we believe to be near the planet. The Republic also has the MC-30c frigate Deliverance presently at Balmorra, along with a squadron of X-wing starfighters. Much of the crew, we're told, is on leave at the moment and will require some 20 to 30 minutes to assemble aboard the ship. The nearest reinforcements are here at Coruscant, just over an hour away.

It is likely that whichever of these worlds Prakith intends to hit, it intends to do so in a "hit and fade" manner. That is to say, Prakith is not believed to have the resources to commit to a full assault without leaving Prakith itself vulnerable. This leaves us with a very short window in which to stop the Imperial forces. It is recommended, with your permission, that the Republic be prepared to call upon all defense vessels from Neimoidia and from Balmorra to assist in defending whichever of these planets proves to be the intended target of this attack.

If we thought these days were completely over with the Bastion Accords, it appears, unfortunately, that we were wrong. Awaiting your reply, Sir.

Most definately we should make sure the defences at Balmorra are strong. I doubt Neimoidia is truly threatened and had the protection of its shield generator and planetary Ion Cannon to keep the Imperials at bay.

I must urge that once Balmorra is defended adequately we must move a task force with all due urgency to Neimoidia and offer it the protection of the New Republic also. I must urge that this Rebel Imperial Element be pressed by our forces on all fronts possible.

I've relayed your orders to the fleet, Sir. I'm assured that a task force will be departing Coruscant for Balmorra and Neimoidia presently. As for Prakith, it is a rather formidable fortress world, even today. The Republic's policy in recent years has been to blockade the planet to keep it isolated in the Deep Core, and conduct enough occasional incursions into its space to convice it of the need to spend its precious few resources and credits on maintaining its defense. The idea is to implode their economy and induce them to sue for peace. This policy has also been mostly successful at containing Prakith. It's rather unusual, in fact, to see it be quite this ambitious.

So I agree that the Republic should apply very strong pressure on Prakith following this incident, however it turns out. I will relay this to the fleet as well and have them draft a plan for you. In the meantime, Sir, NRI will keep you updated on this incident as it progresses.
