| I would like to bring attention to this galactic body, the conditions of pay to our servicemembers of the New Republic Armed Forces. Authorized by me, the Defense Committee launched an investigation into the salaries of several members of the New Republic Armed Forces, and what came back was very dis-approving. Based on research conducted, many members of the military would enjoy a small increase to live a modest life, a life enjoyed by all citizens of the galaxy. Granted when in a combat zone they collect hazard pay and all that nice additions, however when doing garrison duty, it is rather pitiful for what they receive, even with all the benefits they collect. I would like to propose an increase, by rank to these members. A 2% increase in annual salary, and a 1.5 increase in pensions. Not only to give them a better life, but also to raise moral and hopefully gain these commanders more prospectful recruits. Thank you. Exar Ray Senator of Dantooine

| I would like to vote in favor on providing an increase in the salaries of the fellow members that have worked hard to protect the New Republic. Tremaine Fowlkes, Senator of Mowgle

| I believe this is not actually a matter for the full Senate to discuss, especially as this suggestion is hardly currently in a state that resembles legislation to be written into the statute books. As it stands you bandy around percentages without any real sense of numbers. I am however very in-favour of our forces getting a better deal, even so, I would suggest the Defense Committee comes up with a detailed proposition with a rough costing for the cost of a pay rise for our military. This can then be passed to the Economics Committee, at which stage we can crunch the numbers in detail and work out a rough costing leaving us with the options of: 1) Re-allocating from other areas of the budget which will require a Senate vote. 2) Re-allocating within the defense budget, which likely does not need a Senate vote. 3) Raising taxes, which will again require a Senate vote.

| Jory found himself in shock again, but odd as it may seem he was about to agree with Senator Kruss. "I agree, however oddly, that this is a matter best begun with the Defense and Economics committees, respectively. I move that we table this discussion until appropriate numbers that work in favor of both out valued military and our equally valued citizens can be established. Once a feasible and economical plan has been delivered then I would welcome legislation on my desk to review it before an open vote."

| I will support this measure if I, too, get a salary increase, as well as everyone else who works in the commerce department, who provide a service to the New Republic at least as important as its defense. Otherwise, I agree with the good Senators Kruus and Carson. Senator Cambrist, Brentaal Chairman of the Commerce Council

| "The InterGalactic Mining Core votes in favor of an increase in military pay. However, we similarly believe that Senator Kruus of Neimoidia has brought up a valid point, and second the motion by Senator Carson of Kuat to table the discussion until a later time when such an event should be brought before the Senate (in it's due time)."

| I will submit a vote In Favor, and agree that this measure however should be tabled for further discussion at a later time, especially to allow a financial means of supporting this measure to be hammered out.

| I have to agree both with the sentiment of the bill, and with Senator Carson's reservations. Until we've worked out a finance scheme for this bill, it is tabled. However, as I've said I do believe a raise is due both for our military personnel and for other branches of government, and I do expect that the Defense and Economics Councils will continue to pursue this measure and present a revised version within a month.
