I believe this is not actually a matter for the full Senate to discuss, especially as this suggestion is hardly currently in a state that resembles legislation to be written into the statute books. As it stands you bandy around percentages without any real sense of numbers. I am however very in-favour of our forces getting a better deal, even so, I would suggest the Defense Committee comes up with a detailed proposition with a rough costing for the cost of a pay rise for our military. This can then be passed to the Economics Committee, at which stage we can crunch the numbers in detail and work out a rough costing leaving us with the options of:
1) Re-allocating from other areas of the budget which will require a Senate vote.
2) Re-allocating within the defense budget, which likely does not need a Senate vote.
3) Raising taxes, which will again require a Senate vote.
