Authorization for Use of Military Force Against the Acherin Government

The Acherin Resolution, as it's formal title says, is to begin a military operation to remove the corrupt and oppressive Acherin government. As it has proven in it's audience with the Senate, although it has provided a rather interesting bit of information about Senator Kruus, it has nothing but excuses for its human rights violations and oppression of freedom. This Resolution encourages the Chief of State to use the New Republic Armed Forces to end Acherin's strategy of delay and avoidance to the issues with its governance, liberate its people, and establish a democratic, New Republic government on this terrorized world.

Justifications
Acherin's brutal repression of its civilian population.
Acherin's capability and willingness to use brutal tactics against innocents.
Acherin's numerous violations of Repulican law.
Acherin's unwillingness to account for it's human right's violations.

To allow these atrocities to continue, is a failure of everything we, the galactic government, stand for. Too much has been allowed, and this world should stand among the most oppressive and brutal of Remnant worlds. We can not turn a blind eye to this. I urge my fellow delegates to support this measure, and should this measure pass, quick enforcement of it.

*Kruus appeared in a flickery holo, the communications being awful out in the Dantooine system even with his Transmission booster in his Hardcell-class*

The Government of Neimoidia is fully behing a bill which will institute a legitimate Government which is representative of the best interests of its people. The Government of Acherin clearly is a puppet government of the Empire.

As such I am in favour of this resolution. I would also highlight that the free market should be allowed to develop on this world after liberated and the New Republic should not attempt to impose artificial constraints upon its economy.

Certain limitations must be maintained, temporarily of course, in order to ensure stable growth of the new, young government that is to be established. Of course the free market should flow, after stability and independent government operations are achieved.

Why not privatise the invasion? At least partially. Using this system means fewer federal troops have to be redeployed from their current places and jobs can be found for individuals formerly in the employ of the Rebel Alliance.

Id suggest we recruit, to a large extent privateers who have fought with good conduct for the Rebel Alliance to spearhead this force, to be reinforced by various planetary/droid forces. Thus with such a coalition invasion (Under New Republic Defense Force Command) we can act together as a Republic of individual sovereign worlds, rather than constant dependance on the Federal Government to solve all our problems.

I have no problem with liberating Acherin. However, I believe we should use diplomacy first. However, if the diplomacy has failed, then military action is the best results. New Republic should give the planetary government of Acherin a chance to go through a transition phase from dicitatorship state that has brought upon them by the former Galactic Empire to a democracy. We should give the officials of Acherin a chance to resign from their own government to make this transition as bloodless as possible. I would recommend that we send a couple of diplomats, along with armed escorts for protection purpose of course and perhaps extra protection by throwing in more bodyguards, to Acherin. The diplomats would begin negotation with the planetary goverment, urging them to allow the planet itself to go through a transition for a better and safer planet for everyone to be on with more freedom.

Should the negotiation fails, we could send a military force to liberate the people and help the natives establish a democracy government that they have longed for. I would agree with Senator Kruus for forming a coalition force consist of several planetary forces from member worlds, it would save us a bundle.

Again, my vote for this matter is that we should use diplomacy first, military action last.

I vote firmly in favor of this resolution. There has been much talk recently about defending the defenseless on the Outer Rim, and opposing the unopposed dictators who suppress their own people. Well, let there now be action, not just talk. Let us stand up to this regime on Acherin which, Imperial or not, is purportedly one of the worst tyrannies in the galaxy. Let us stand up against public executions, beheadings, the torture of women and children, metaphorical and literal murder of dissent, and all of the evils committed by regimes such as this one. Let this New Republic now say no! This we will not abide.

It would also be very much to our commercial and economic benefit to do so.

Thus I agree with this resolution, and I second the remarks of Senator Kruus as regards the character of the Acherin regime, and the possible privatization of the invasion effort.

I have to remind the Senate that while there are rumors of mass, targeted killings of dissidents and public officials on Acherin, we do not have evidence of it at this point in time, and so its best not to get ahead of ourselves, rhetorically. However, there is good cause for suspicion; one of the reasons we cannot confirm (or disconfirm) the rumors of atrocities on Acherin is its government's abuse and censorship of the Holonet, clearly to hide something from the outside galaxy. But one thing is for certain: Acherin's government does not deserve the benefit of our doubt, and so we cannot rule out an invasion if need be.

However, I agree with Senator Fowlkes that at this stage diplomacy is preferable to an assault. We all saw Representative Tang promise Acherin's cooperation with the NRI, which as I said is overdue, but welcome. I believe we should let the NRI do its work, and pursue our diplomatic options first, however I do still support this resolution because I feel that an authorization for the use of force will give us more leverage in our demands and our diplomacy with the planet. I thank Senator Forte for proposing the measure, and I hope it will not become necessary to use it.

But if it does become necessary, I have all confidence that it will be enforced with the full force and professionalism of the New Republic fleet, and its armies. If Senators Kruus and Cambrist favor a "privatized" invasion force of mercenaries and privateers, I suggest you propose it as a separate measure for consideration at a future time.

If diplomacy is the path taken, at least firstly, in dealing with the Acherin government, I would like to volunteer for part, if not head, of the diplomatic team that is sent.

The resolution passes with a margin of 5 to 1. I also appreciate Senator Forte offering himself for our diplomatic efforts. I'm sure, as the sponsor of this resolution, his services will be useful to us in our dealings with Acherin, and I will keep in contact with him.
