Message:

Senator Cambrist,

It strikes me that the behaviour of the Government of Acherin is of late not condusive to the free market or to the galactic economy as a whole.

As such it occured to me that with the blessing of a joint Commerce/Economics Council ruling it might be in the interests to lodge some form of protest against the Acherin Government, possibly in the form of some type of trade embargo or blockade.

I am assured the Government of my world would be fully supportive of this.

Senator, your suggestion is sound, plausible and no doubt profitable. With the sentiments currently being expressed in the Senate, it seems entirely likely that Acherin may well be the topic of assault (verbal and actual) in the immediate future, and no doubt when the New Republic becomes involved it will indeed, as you say, do much to encourage a vibrant and free market. However, I do have a rule as regards the use of Brentaal's fleet for such purposes; the assault/blockade in question A.) must be something that the New Republic is unwilling to do itself, and B.) must have some commercial benefit not only for the New Republic, but for me or Brentaal.

Since the Senate seems abundantly and imminently willing to assault Acherin, I would hence prefer a demonstrable personal profit for which I should commit Brentaal's fleet to such an action as you propose. Do you suppose that in blockading the planet ourselves, we could oblige Acherin into favorable trade terms with Brentaal or Neimoidia, before the New Republic becomes formally involved?

Senator.

It does seem to me that the Government of Acherin, with the suitable persuasion against its trade would be more ameniable to the idea of some form of exclusive trade deals with whichever worlds were exerting the pressure on them.

As for profit, it would be highly innapropriate for either us or our governments to profit from this, this is an issue of freeing the people of Acherin from an oppressive government, and not about self interest. However, we are not a charity and the funding for this blockade would come directly from sales of cargo and vessels captured running the blockade, and other assets confiscated from the Acherin Government, it would be each of our responsibility to assure that a suitable ammount was confiscated for the upkeep of the blockade and to pay our expenses.

Well put, Senator, and agreed. Brentaal will be with you in this most noble endeavor, and having spoken with Mr. Bo'var, I have assurances that the IMC will as well. It occurs to me, however, that we would be well advised to wait until the current "Acherin Resolution" has passed the Senate, so as to use the will of the Senate as our primary, legal justification for the blockade. Concordantly, I'd advise against using our respective Councils for that purpose; some of our more misguided and morally immutable colleagues might later call such an act into question, and that would be scrutiny that we could do without, for such a worthy and altruistic enterprise as this.
