"Regrettably not everyone was capable of being here today--now please be seated so we may continue this discussion and open the floor." The only noticeable absence happened to be Marcus Zane, the rest of the individuals from the Board of Trustee's were present. Most of them had been briefed earlier on exactly what was going on, and most had prepared arguments, or speeches. Dannil allowed them all to sit before he would rise.

"Honourable Senator Ray, allow me to present to you Wyla Vrei, Drayson Loran, Voren Vasch, Lilea Barrezz, Karreal Tala, Skye Vin Lockheart; all members of the Board of Trustee's. Marcus Zane unfortunately could not make it to this session, but such is expected for a corporation this large. As I recall, you already know Mr. Loran, nonetheless, we will continue with the discussion.

The matter at hand to be discussed involves the current predicament over the Dantooine Recovery Act; namely, the fact that turbolasers are on your planet which were not in your original request when you asked the InterGalactic Mining Core for help in modernizing your military."

"More to the point!" Shouted Wyla, "you go to the Republic to help you modernize your military, and completely side step the partnership (a growing partnership I might add) that you had with the InterGalactic Mining Core."

"Many," Dannil continued, "feel that the InterGalactic Mining Core has wasted it's time on Dantooine; having attempted to generate a cooperative relationship with the government and its people for the betterment of the society and for the corporation. Some of us," the CEO made a broad gesture to include the members seated, "feel that Dantooine has been negligent and abusive of the relationship between the InterGalactic Mining Core and the Khoonda Administration. You recall the Vjun disaster? We lost our mining facilities on Vjun in order to help secure Dantooine--because of its proximity to the New Imperial Order--and some members of the Board feel like in return for that sacrifice, the InterGalactic Mining Core received a slap in the face, and after the IMC has extended support to both your planet, and you within the Senate." Dannil frowned, "many of us are disappointed... But I open to the floor respectively to the other members of the Board and to Mr. Ray himself, so that we can either put aside our differences, or come to some conclusion over what is to become of the IMC and Dantooine."

Just before the Board of Trustee's were presented, a blue holo image of Exar Ray was broadcasted into the room. On a secure line, he was able to successfully kill two birds with one stone. Being able to step away from Kruus in private to do this was a good thing. As the board was introduced, Exar bowed to them as a whole after they were done. His chair was imaged in as he took a seat after then. Sitting firmly, he listened to how they reacted to Dantooine so far. No doubt displeased and felt like a number of resources were wasted. But to Exar... it was little undertaking needed. After allowing them to speak, he rose from his chair and stood tall and firm, cain in hand, begun to speak. "Members of the Board of Trustee's, allow me to start off by saying that it was a waste of resources to invest in Vjun. No doubt was this company benefiting from such minerals harvested on there, however Vjun was a target by the Imperial Remnant... main the New Imperial Order, which is no more." He paused a little.

"It would appear to me that the IMC would have spent more in costs of repair and re-armament for security forces, if there were any, on Vjun... plus have to handle Oriel and his corrupt government that I had the pleasure of meeting." He smirked a little at the though of visiting Vjun. "Do not forget, that I was the head of the political team sent in to negotiate with them... they were clouded in their greed, and no doubt would the IMC have been pulled apart like kath hounds to a human. However... as the issue on Dantooine comes to play." He lowered his head a little. "I regret to inform you, that Dantooine will not tolerate the hard feelings of abuse felt by you." He rose his head with a even greater smirk. "However, I am pleased to inform you, that I undertake this mission of goodwill to repair the damages... and like Oriel... I will not shove a dart of poison in your backsides."

He took a seat again and rested firmly in it's cusions. "I would like to agree that yes we partitioned to the New Republic in order for the IMC to back us up... and even volunteer to construct such weapons... however Mr. Bo'Var did not speak up, and therefore I was to fold my hand with only 2 pairs of kings." Suddenly, Ray disapeared and two playing cards took his image. As Ray spoke, the mouths would repeat what he spoke. "Dantooine has appreciated the IMC greatly, and the large amount of investments sent to us. It is part of the main reason I order the Militia to patrol your areas on the planet irregularly from normal patrols... to ensure that no harm comes to such structed buildings and company." Recordings of the logs then appeared. "If you will notice, many militiamembers volunteer for the missions of extra patrols for the sole fact, that they are appreciative of what was given to them by your factories." Ray suddenly reappeared.

"So I would no doubt think twice before saying that Dantooine has become the dead horse in the IMC/Dantooine relationship. If I were to side-step, boardmembers, then I would have stricter rules suddenly on how the IMC operates, but I treat the company as if they were home-grown members of Dantooine. They are respected, and surely well-treated." Pausing, he took a breathe and allowed the others to speak.

Ah, the ever voluptuous Wyla Vrei, Loran mused to himself as he watched his fellow Trustee's rant at the hologram of Senator Ray, though he was notably not as interested in the hologram as he was in her. And ever passionate, he noted as he nodded sympathetically to her, with the effect of calming her frustration. It was a passion that he had come to know intimately during his tenure with the IMC, and when she spoke of a "growing partnership," he couldn't help but discern a double entendre, whether or not it was intended.

There had never been any women on the OSC's Board of Directors, and Wyla was the first one he'd met who could appreciate him not simply for his money, but for how he made it. She was well versed in business, finance and commerce, as well as posessing certain other expertise. Drayson Loran, as a rule, did not experience "love," but perhaps the recent collapse of his shipping empire―indeed, his life's work―had humbled him, and his priorities. Perhaps. There was no question that he was a much tamer Loran than he had notoriously been in the Senate, and as a captain of industry. These days, he seemed much more honestly concerned with his philanthropic endeavors, and of course with his duties as a Trustee of the IMC.

And with Wyla.

He shook his head, and directed his attention back to Exar Ray just as he was concluding a reference to Bernard Oriel. Ah yes, Loran thought to himself. His old Senate nemesis, Oriel. Or at least, he had fashioned him as such. The man had purportedly met his end under circumstances that remained entirely mysterious, and so had deprived Loran of his last raison d'être. For what is life without something―or someone―to hate? Perhaps, in the personage of Wyla Vrei, it was someone to love instead, though Loran remained thus far unconvinced. Ever the businessman, it would take nothing less than a cost/benefit analysis to dissuade him in that respect.

In any case, he agreed entirely with Ray's characterization of Oriel, and Oriel's Vjun. Regardless of the IMC's peculiar commitment to "democracy," it was never a sustainable investment; if the Imperials hadn't destroyed it, someone else would have (possibly himself). But that did not forgive Ray, and Loran was prepared to say so. "If I may," he said after the Senator had finished. "Senator Ray, it is of course a pleasure to see you again in an entirely different venue than the one we're accustomed to, but of course I would be remiss if I treated you preferentially as a result of our past camaraderie."

"Your theatrics are charming of course," he said insincerely, in reference to the Senator's "pair of kings" display, "But it does not explain why you felt it necessary to decieve this institution, ostensibly your ally, into abandoning its investments in order to defend a planet that was clearly not in need of defending, until recently that is. Nor does the courtesy of regular militia patrols seem necessary for facilities already defended by over 200 well trained security troops. Truly my friends," he said, taking off his glasses as he glanced to his fellow Trustees, "I do not see Dantooine as a profitable enterprise for the IMC, however I will of course support any revised terms that the Board wishes to propose to Senator Ray?"

He glanced at Representative... Boardmember Loran and smirked. "Ah... Drayson, how charming it is to see your ugly smug yet again in the world of corporation." He joked and nodded at what he had to say. "However, I do like to point out to you all, that in no way was decieving part of my plan, or was it ever. I admit, communications between the IMC and Dantooine have indeed not played the role of the bridge." This was the obvious fact. When the deal was first brokered between the Government and Corporation, Ray's phone rang off the hook. Now, it was probably every once in a blue harvest that it was someone from the IMC. "I think we can all agree that both of us are at fault for this, not largerly mine nor yours." His look was calm as ever. He faced this type of debates all the time, whether it would be at a meeting between the Khoonda Administration, or in the Senate building.

"And I beg to differ. I have had the pleasure of looking at your Enforcer-class, and while I was impressed with the tactics displayed, I was saddened to be given a rumor that it would take a group of them to take down a lone Star Destroyer, therefore I would have to say that Space Defense is, and will ever remain a current problem for Dantooine." He grinned some. "I do not expect the IMC to provide everything to Dantooine, because then at that point, would it be a worthless investiment, hence why as I have asked it follow under the strict guildlines of every other Dantooine Corporation, I do not want the owners to believe that contracts with my government go down the drain. That is why I have the militia patrol the outside." Because quite frankly, he didn't want IMC security troops running amuck.

"Highly trained may your security forces be, but they are really restricted to the IMC compounds themselves. However, my militia know their planet like the back of their hands. That is why I have THEM obtain extra patrols around the IMC facilities... because I will not allow vendetta parties to be formed should a bombing happen. Surely I will grant them to cooperate with Militia, but besides that... and the threat of Imperial invasion... their job is to protect the inside of your facilities... the militia's job to protect the perimeter." The grin on his face ever so present.

Giving a slightly disgruntled cough to clear his throat, Dannil allowed his gaze to gently shift between Exar and Trustee Loran, although he was treading on thin ice here. Everyone in the Boardroom knew that Dannil wanted to return relations with Exar; Loran was furthermore aware of the true intentions of the Dantooine initiative. However, other board members were not as entitled as Dannil, and most spoke their opinions about the foolish endeavor. In reality, the 300,000 people on Dantooine were hardly enough to return profits for the IMC; yet the mineral value was something to consider from the planet. Nonetheless, the CEO felt like someone had taken a stab at him.

"Senator Ray, please be informed that while the E8 is primarily a pirate counter-measure, the squadrons of defense fighters that we had placed in the Orbital shipyard--another endeavor that we went through on behalf of the Dantooine government--are more than enough to combat minor Imperial threats. You can't expect to repel an entire Imperial invasion force with only InterGalactic Forces. Hell, even the Republic would have a hard time with it.

As for the ground forces, while we do appreciate the militia and appreciate all that it's done in safe guarding out facilities--our security personnel report that most of not all of the populace on Dantooine are thoroughly happy to have the InterGalactic Mining Core creating job opportunities. As a matter of fact, the Orbital facility opened up InterGalactic traveling for people on Dantooine and that has been both profitable and enjoyable for your planet.

And for the record, it was never brokered to me that you were even remotely interested in constructing Turbolasers for your planet. As I seem to recall, the Turbolasers were something smuggled unto the planet through a bill of some sort; I'm not sure what the Economics Committee has found out thus far.

Let's look at this from a business perspective Senator. If we scuttle our orbital facility and pull out of Dantooine, you're looking at massive job loss, and a rapid increase in unemployment. If you choose to buy the facilities from the InterGalactic Mining Core, you're looking at an amazing deficit--which means a Loan from the Republic. As it stands, Dantooine stands to lose a lot from an IMC pull out.

But your right, we don't want to give the impression that Dantooine is an inhospitable place to do business, which is why we're attempting to iron out an agreement, or something--that can turn the tide of the current hostilities within the Board. I would like to know though--Senator--why was it that the InterGalactic Mining Core was not privy to the knowledge of the secret turbolaser creation?"

His eyes drifted to Loran, the man who had known about the turbolasers, and who had been nice enough to inform Dannil prior to the Economics Committee landing. What a horrible thing that would have been, but easily deniable.

Loran felt a rare tinge of remorse at having misled―however unintentionally―the IMC, when they had purchased the foundries in question from the late OSC without "an abundance of disclosure" on the planetary weapons that had been constructed within. That is to say, the contract recommended in its finest of fine print (and in impenetrable legalese, no less) that the IMC consult Dantooine's government with regard to those foundries for more information. Apparently, no one asked. So it was that the IMC had purchased the facilities unaware of the weapons housed inside. Of course, Loran had known about them all along, but as far as the law and the public was concerned he had only personally "learned of their existence" a week ago, whereupon he promptly brought it to Dannil's attention. Loran knew better, naturally, and so did Dannil. But no one wanted the appearance of impropriety―of dirtied hands―on the IMC's honorous Board of Trustees.

He noticed Dannil's glare upon him and, eager to change the subject, took it as his cue to speak. "I am as surprised as anyone that apparently neither the Khoonda Administration or even the OSC had communicated to us the existence of these weapons," he said, using the word "us" quite deliberately to reinforce his own, complete innocence in the affair. "But I'm sure we can agree, the IMC would be best served to decide on a way forward, rather than dwelling on this.. unpleasantness. As the good Chairman has said, the IMC does much for Dantooine. Of course, the planet might not be a profitable enterprise for us, but even so Mr. Bo'var is right that it would be most harmful to Dantooine for us to leave it. This is why, as I have said, I will support whatever alternate terms and conditions that the Chairman wishes to propose to Senator Ray, in order to continue our business with the planet, assuming Senator Ray accepts."

"Agreed, we should," Dannil took the hint from his fellow Trustee to change the direction of the deliberations, and directed his gaze back to the holographic display of Exar Ray, "definitely be working on alternative means to cement our relationship. Now, Mr. Ray. The InterGalactic Mining Core has always been a friend to Dantooine. You came to us with a request to arm your militia troops, and we created a subsidiary division strictly for that. We similarly created a subsidiary division to help you with vehicles, and with the recent acquisition of the Outlying Shipping Corporations manufacturing plants we've been of a larger capacity to maintain and help create planetary military divisions--including armoured support craft and kits for the soldiers."

Dannil paused, once again changing the direction of the discussion, "which has also come to the immediate knowledge of the Trade Spine--or the Neimoidians. They are currently very interested in working out a lucrative agreement with the InterGalactic Mining Core, with some formalities aside. Many on this board believe that we should simply close up shop and leave Dantooine to it's own perils. Others believe we've ventured too far in the enterprise on Dantooine and should instead be focusing on the trade spine. Thus, I would pose a question to you Senator. Do you think that the enterprise on Dantooine has been used up? If not, then perhaps you have a piece of legislation or a contract which could bring fresh life into the IMC-Dantooine relationship."

"Ah yes... Kruus and his fellowship. No doubt a greedy bunch with comfort of the location towards the Core, a luxary Dantooine will never have." Ray mentioned as the Neimodians were mentioned. It bothered him not that Kruus attempted to smite Exar's name and planet. But he quickly relocated his mind into the IMC. "Then if it may please the board of trustees, I do present the contract for armament of the Khoonda Militia." A copy was handed to every member by way of a droid. "If you will see here, I believe that it was the Chief of State himself that advised me to come to you. And when you made me happy, I turned around and doubled what I have felt. Fellow militias such as Mowgle I have offered their leadership contact with you for weaponry prices and such." He then switched to their mining facilities. "Dantooine was once known by the Jedi to contain crystals for their lightsabers. Whole caves and underground vaults full of these gems were yours to harvest, provided that Dantooine receieved a fair share of some profit. And you members mean to sit there and tell me that Dantooine has not provided to your taste? You will find more gems here then you will on Neimodia." He smiled a little.

"Waste facilities. Brilliant idea. Do you know how useful this has been to not only me, but to you as well? Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a contract to do such a job so close to Imperial space? I do not know why the IMC believes this is such a bad deal here on Dantooine, because as I have it, you have it made with the equipment, crystals, and waste jobs you have created. People have flocked, and I have even done my share to spread the word about the IMC." Now was the time to throw down the cards. "Should the IMC leave, you leave Dantooine jobless, you hurt our economy, you will hurt a very nice partnership... but the most you will hurt... will be your image." He said, finally.

"We wouldn't want that," Loran noted before his other colleagues could speak, "But when it comes to hurting one's image and reputation, with all due respect I don't think we should be taking advice from Senator Ray, and nor should we be blackmailed." His manner of speaking was, as always, entirely pleasant, in contrast to his venomous words. Loran smiled politely, then donned his reading glasses once more as he turned his attention to the Neimoidian memorandum on his desk, and cleared his throat. "As we can see, my friends, and as Chairman Bo'var has noted, the Neimoidians have offered us a most lucrative proposal indeed, on the condition that the IMC end its enterprises on Dantooine. Under the circumstances, Senator," he glanced back to Ray's hologram once again. "Do you not think that exclusive mining rights for the IMC at Dantooine might be in order? And a loosening of your mining and pollution limitations?"

"I think that under such circumstances, I would be much more readily inclined to support continuing our partnership. And afterall, I would be most concerned for the image of the Khoonda Administration should it lose so many of its people's jobs on account of a Senate scandal."

With a sudden burst of laughter, Ray rubbed his eyes a little. "Trustee Loran... I do not speak of blackmail... I speak of media output. You know how they are. Like vultures, they will pick at every little thing there is." He turned to look at all of them. "I'm sure you all will agree. They are very hard to please... and even then, it's like walking into a glass house." Noting some, he nodded at Loran. "And indeed, while my image is currently on the line here, I am no man to take advise from... then again, none of us are... considering the man attempting to hurt my image is investigating me at this moment. I will still hold true that there is no scandal, just greed trying to push it's way out." Adjusting himself, he looked. "If you want mining rights, by all means. However I will not loosen rules. I run a tight, but honest competition. If any loosening of the rules were to come, then you are expected to win it." It was plain and simple really.

"Tight but honest, isn't that the truth?" Dannil spared a moments laughter as he examined his notes, gently shuffling them around on the table before him and switching to a new sheet of flimsi before he continued. "I have to admit Mr. Ray that you aren't offering much incentive in the way of paving a new relationship with the InterGalactic Mining Core. Let's be blunt here, Senator. As far as the InterGalactic Mining Core is concerned we've been treated with the utmost disregard in relation to mutual cooperation with the Khoonda Administration, and most members are ready to pull out and join with the Neimoidian conglomerations instead of bothering to broker the relations with Dantooine. Now, we're willing to come to some determination as is mutually agreeable to both factions, but if all you can offer us is something along the lines of what we already have--such as mining rights--then really you aren't offering incentive to the corporation. I have a list prepared of several things that could be offered to the InterGalactic Mining Core. Namely:
  • Exclusive Mining Rights
  • Primary Sales of Equipment and Kits for Personnel
  • Primary Maintenance for Vehicles of Militia
  • Creation of a new Joint-Venture position to maintain a mutual defense of the planet Dantooine (this would include a tribunal of IMC-Republic-Dantooine representatives that would work with cohesion to fortify and otherwise help coordinate defense forces of the planet).
    Are these terms agreeable?"

"If this is what you wish, then so be it." It was all the Senator would speak before closing out, in referring to the deal.
