Senator Forte, congratulations on your appointment. I am Vice Admiral Treslar, and in addition to commanding the Republic's 2nd Battle Group, I am also Admiral Ackbar's designated liason to the Defense Council. I look forward to working with you and, having spoken with the Admiral, he wishes to assure you that he does as well even if his schedule does not permit him the time for regular correspondence. With regard to your first question, I have forwarded the records of our Imperial stockpiles to your Council's office for your review.

With regard to your second question, the New Republic Defense Fleet does not maintain a formal "Reserve Fleet," however it does have several fleets or "elements" at its disposal that do serve this purpose, should the need arise. Primarily, the Bothan Combat Response Element (a task force, to be assembled in cases of need), and a small, variable number of vessels at the Hast Shipyards under various states of construction. Otherwise no, Senator, the fleet is rather thoroughly occupied on assignment throughout the galaxy.

Your final question is something I have discussed with the Admiral on a number of occasions. Your predecessor's continuity with the Chief of State's defense policies was useful to us, in that it made clear and simple what our instructions were, and how it was understood that those instructions be implemented. He was, however, incurious and did not often correspond with us. This was useful, in that it allowed us the flexibility to implement policy without interference, but more contact would certainly be appreciated (especially with respect to funding, and new designs and defense programs).
