Chief Fitzgerald, after the begining of a formal meeting on the matter of Acherin, which has been put into recess until Director Cracken's operatives get on the ground and reports can be filed, we have a official decision in the initial hearing however. The Defense Council has come to find, based on the fact that the Acherin Resolution, which was passed and thus law, called specifically upon yourself to use specifically the New Republic Armed Forces to address the situation, that the Acherin Blockade conducted by the IMC, Brentaal, and Neimoidia is an illegal action. It is of course your decision on how to deal with it, but it is the Defense Council's recommendation that the blockading forces be forced to return to their respective bases upon the arrival of our forces at Acherin.

Thank you, Senator, for your recommendations. You will recall that in a previous statement, I have outlined what our policy will be toward the blockading forces once we've arrived, and I think you'll agree this course of action is largely in agreement with the one that you suggest. I would also remind you, however, that much of this blockade will eventually need to be resolved in the courts (since whether or not the action is legal is a legal and thus, a judicial matter), and in the meantime it might be wise for the Defense Council to concentrate on other matters as well.

Also, it's my understanding that you're working with Senator Ryuun on a revised militia oversight bill. Perhaps I will forward to your Council tomorrow a set of principles that I believe would be helpful to you in crafting the legislation? Nothing definite, of course. Just something that I think equates to sound policy, while still observing the sovereignty of our member worlds. I see much opportunity for compromise in this bill.
