Continued from "Darth Acheron's Adventure."

"I think you and me need to have a chat as soon as we're out of this," Rev said to his bounty, taking one hand off the controls of the Bloodshot, his Skipray Blastboat, as it trembled around them. He wiped the sweat off his forehead, shook his head, and returned his gaze to the cockpit's instruments (the viewport wasn't much good; they were just escaping Aduba 3's atmosphere, and white flames streaked across the transparisteel). "About why, for instance, you've got some other Dark Jedi gunning for you? I thought you were supposed to be the Dark Jedi here, pal, or Jedi or whatever you are. Warrant said nothing about damn accomplices."

The blastboat began to even out suddenly, as the flames disappeared from the viewport, replaced with the familiar black of space. Another minute or so and they would be clear of the planet's gravity well, and if they could just avoid whatever armament that Zeril's pirates had in orbit, they would be home free. Well, Rev would be home free. Darwin, not so much.

A warning siren sounded in the cockpit, but too late to stop the Bloodshot from being hit by what must have been a laser blast. The bounty hunter knew his ship well, and recognized the sound of turbolasers on its shields; like pouring sand. A moment later, another volley, this one missing altogether and streaking hot past the cockpit. Rev's sensors confirmed it: a Tartan-class patrol cruiser. It was an older model, but still more than a match for one blastboat if the Tartan made up the distance between them. Let's see to it that doesn't happen, Rev thought to himself as he gunned the sublight engines harder, suddenly glad that he had refueled the ship planetside but still not sure how much she could take after the day's earlier skirmish.

He checked his sensors again; sure enough, the Tartan was falling into pursuit but so far it was still out of effective range. Good. "Jedi!" Rev shouted to Darwin, seated behind him, "Get on the ion cannons and have a go at that Tartan. Won't do much, but it'll slow 'em up if they take evasive maneuvers. Do it! We're almost clear."

The Sith looked at Rev, "Like I knew there was another Dark Jedi in the galaxy." He spoke to the bounty hunter sacrastically. As he deactivated the lightsaber, and put it on his belt. He knew he would have to come up with a plan to convince the bounty hunter to let him go, though that doesn't seem to be the option with Am Rev right now. He would be thinking up of a plan while he helps Rev escapes.

In meantime, there's a Tartan patrol cruiser gunning for them. Although, they're out of range, he'll do as Rev said. The Sith rushed to the ion cannons, and began firing toward the Tartan. He would hope they would be able to escape soon. The sooner, the better. After they get this little problem out of the way, they can have a talk as Rev intended.

Evasive maneuvers, Rev noted as he watched the Tartan on his sensors. As he suspected; pirates don't come by that kind of hardware easily, and no doubt they'd be reluctant to have it fried just to capture one blastboat. The cruiser fell steadily behind them, still shooting, for whatever that was worth, most of its turbolasers missing altogether and the rest splashing harmlessly on the Bloodshot's shields. Another moment, and they were gone: the stars outside the viewport contorted, and became a flourescent blur that filled the cramped ship with rippling hues of blue and white, like an ocean (which space truly was, in a metaphorical sense).

"Well, here's where it gets awkward," Rev said a moment later, when he was satisfied that the hyperdrive was, in fact, going to work. He unlocked his pilot's chair and swivelled around to face Acheron. His hand was on the handle of his Luxan, though he hadn't unholstered the pistol. "The way I see it," he said, "We can either try to kill each other right now, and maybe I kill you or you kill me, whatever. But it won't get us to Nar Shaddaa any faster. Ship needs repairin', so that's where we're headed first. So I'm gonna propose we just sit here for the next hour or two and wait to figure out who's gonna kill who when we get there?" It didn't seem to occur to Rev that there might be a solution that didn't require violence.

"Or we could settle it now," he said with a shrug, as he clicked the safety off his pistol for emphasis, "Your call. I'm not particular, although you wouldn't believe the day I've had and it'd be nice to get some sleep in first."

Darth Acheron had left the turret controls that he used earlier to shoot at the Tartan, acknowledging they got into hyperspace by the sense of a spike in the speed of the ship. He walked only to meet with the bounty hunter in the middle. He was going to use his hand to draw the lightsaber out, but decided against it. The bounty hunter made a good point there.

"Well, usually I kill without hesitation. But since you helped in the escape, you will be spared for now." The Sith would walk over to lean against the wall, crossing his arms. "Besides, you need me alive to get rich. From what I've observed about your age, this is probably your last hitch." The Sith knew it probably wasn't wise to mention of his age, but hey the bounty hunter needs the money.

The bounty hunter smiled when he heard he would "be spared," and laughed aloud at the remark about his age. He shook his head, still smiling, and crossed one leg over the other as he went about taking off his boots. If he wasn't a bounty, and a Sith, Rev would make him regret those words. "You should be more grateful, you know. I've saved your life today," he paused, contemplating, "At least five times, including back there at Aduba. I don't know, I lost count." He pointed to a cabinet not far above Darwin's head, nodded; "Rations in there, if you need something to eat."

He thought about demanding that the Sith turn his lightsaber over to him (since, presumably, it would have to be done some time before his delivery), but decided against it; so maybe the kid wasn't smart, but he could probably kill Rev here in the ship in a dozen different ways, with or without a lightsaber. He shrugged to himself, swivelled his chair and, his boots off, planted his feet on the control panel. For a moment, all that was heard was the soft humming of the hyperdrive. He closed his eyes, meaning to drift to sleep, but some minutes later his curiosity got the better of him. "Say," he said, his eyes still closed and his arms crossed over his chest, "Personal question. How come you're going around killin' folks who don't have it comin' to 'em? I mean, I only kill people who are in my way. You seem to go out of your way to kill people."

Simple enough question, really.

The Sith looked at the bounty hunter, knowing that the old man does have his uses. He did save Darth Acheron back at Aduba III, but he isn't sure if the bounty hunter was telling the truth about killing the others that tried to capture him. After all, bounty hunters cannot be trusted. For all he know, Am Rev could be lying to get some kind of bonus from the Sith in addition to the bounty. "I already gave you my thanks by letting you alive, isn't that enough?" He would remain in his seat, staying awake. Of course, he would not go to sleep because anything could happen to him. The Sith refuse to allow Am Rev to get the best of him.

As he went into the thoughts of planning on trying to get out of Am Rev's hands once he gets to Nar Shaddaa, his thoughts was interrupted by Am Rev's apparent curiosity. "I'm guessing you're asking if I'm some kind of crazy Sith who kills innocents for no reason? If you must know, I did it just to prove a point. The point was to tell the Jedi that there will always be a Sith in this galaxy. Trust me, there won't be more innocent killings. The next killings I'm going to take are not going to be the people that's innocent, but the people that's guilty." There's a hint that he probably shouldn't have told Am Rev, but after he saved his life. This is probably what he can do best until he could find a way to return the favor.

Rev's smile had long since faded, and become a frown as he listened to the Sith's words with his eyes still closed. "So you're crazy, basically," he said with a shrug (it was not intended as an insult), "That's your problem." Then again, Rev didn't understand any of this Jedi and Sith stuff; seemed like they were always trying to make some kind of point, and usually at everyone else's expense. I guess that's what happens when you have someone with the Force, no job, and too much time on his hands, he thought to himself, grimly. Yes, they always had something to prove. Or perhaps, he thought with amusement, something to compensate for.

"I don't know," he continued, "Don't you ever just think about getting a house and a wife and a dog and a cat, like everyone else? Just seems like a lot of work to make a statement, y'know? 'specially since we're all goin' die some day and no one's going to remember it. Hell, I already forgot the name of that other one, you know, who blew up what's it? Carida. Plus, now you got people like me lookin' for you, and believe me, you don't want people like me for company."

"You know, though," he said, somewhat admonishingly (but not completely without humor), "You're pushing your luck with this whole 'letting me live' business. By now, most of my bounties are sitting right there, begging me to let them go, offering to pay me more, that sort of thing. Actually, there was this one time I brought in an escaped slave girl, well put together, must have been 19 or 20, you know the sort; so she says to me, she says, 'Release me and I'll be yours, right now and forever,' right? So I'm not made out of durasteel, right? And this is right here in the cabin, mind you, same ship; I've had this ship awhile, it's a good'un. So she gets me out of my armor, and just when it's getting good, she goes for my damn blaster. Can you believe that? No sense of decency at all. It was really a turn off, needless to say. Had to cuff her to the chair and listen to her lecture me for three hours. Most of it was in Bocce though, thankfully, so I didn't understand a word."

"What was I talking about?" he paused for a moment, then came, finally, to the point, "Oh yeah. Well I'm not into that kind of thing, obviously, but still you could offer money or something. If it's good enough I could be persuaded to let you go. Of course, it'd have to be damn good, know what I mean? You know, 50 million good reasons why I should let you go." He laughed, rather loudly in the cramped confines of the Blastboat, seeming to expect Acheron to laugh with him. He realized quickly, however, that he was the only one who found it funny, and quieted himself. He shrugged, "I don't much care, to be honest. Credits are credits, and I figure you probably don't have a lot of them anyway."

Darth Acheron would look at the old man, well not that old. "I'll try to remind myself why I allowed myself to work with this annoying man who looks like he should be having a desk job by now." The Sith thought to himself, looking at Rev. He rolled his eyes, and then crossed his arms before he would speak with the bounty hunter. "I'm crazy because I have to prove a point, or am I crazy because I am gifted with things that are considered...unnatural among people like you?" The tone was somewhat annoyed. He was annoyed by the fact the sentient beings of the galaxy viewed him as someone that is outside of this galaxy. Even as a Jedi, he was still treated as such. He was tired of being passive about it, and that led to the fall of Darwin Sky and the rise of Darth Acheron. That was not the sole reason why he had fallen far down the path that many feared to take, but that was a part of it.

The Sith would then chuckled at Am Rev, when the bounty hunter brought up the topic of leading a simple life. "Is that why you stick to the life of bounty hunting? Because it leads a simple life? You're such a hypocrite, old man. You're asking me why I'm not having a "normal" everyday life like everybody else, while you also lead an unorthodox life. I'm willing to bet you don't have a wife or a daughter, not even a pet. It's because you're addicted to the thrill of hunting someone down such as I." Darth Acheron would shook his head, he cannot believe the bounty hunter would ask such a question when he isn't leading a life that everybody's taking. "I was born to a destiny. Once I was born with force powers, my life is already set. I'm what everybody would call special. That is why I cannot have a simple life, and that is why I choose embrace it instead of trying too hard to be like everybody else."

He would give Am Rev a smirk, hearing the story of a slave girl that snaked her way out of the capture. "What do you expect? Everyone's trying to keep themselves alive. If someone's going to die, why would he want to vanish into a thin air? IF someone's going to DIE, he should leave something for someone else to remember by. That's what every Sith Lord has been doing ever since they came into the galaxy. That is what I intend to do, pass the legacy of the Sith."

"You're correct in assuming that I don't have much money and the fancy 50 million good reasons why you should let me go." Then the Sith would look at Am Rev in anger, the purpose of it is to have an attempt to instill fear into the man. He cleared his throat, "But I do have one reason why you should let me go." Darth Acheron would look into the eyes of Am Rev, "I'm sure you know what the reason is. You may be a bounty hunter just looking to make some big credits, but once you interfere with the lives of a Jedi or a Sith...it gets complicated for you."

Rev opened his eyes, smiled, and shook his head as he stared absently at the ceiling, still reclined in the pilot's chair with his feet on the control panel. His expression was one of bemusement. "Hell, son," he said, "Don't be so touchy. I don't think you're crazy because you're 'special,' or 'unnatural,' or whatever. I think you're crazy because you're crazy. Listen to yourself; you say I'm stereotyping you, then you stereotype yourself. You can't have it both ways. 'Can't have a simple life'? Word of advice from a person you call old; your life is yours to make whatever you want of it, with force powers or without, and I've seen too many people die for no good reason to believe there's such a thing as destiny. No disrespect, buddy, but get over yourself."

"As for my job," he paused for a long moment, his arms crossed over his chest and his expression grim. He shrugged, "I don't kill people to kill people, or prove I can, or because I want to, or whatever little theory you have about me. I kill people because that's what I'm paid to do, and money means retirement, and retirement means a quiet little piece of nowhere, where I can live out the rest of my days."

"You need to sort out your priorities, kid," he said, deflecting the subject back to Acheron, "Enough about destiny. You decide for yourself what you're here for, and what you want in life. You're all crazy in the head; need to sit down and rethink some things. Well," he grinned again, looking back up at the ceiling again, "if you survive long enough. As for that, you might not want to kill me so soon, since I've got this ship's self destruct hooked up to my vitals. I die, and the ship blows us both up." That was a lie, of course, but there was no particular reason why Acheron should know that he was lying. And even if he suspected Rev wasn't telling the truth, would he really want to take the chance?

The Sith would shrug it off, the bounty hunter was bold in calling him out as a crazy person. Darth Acheron kept his arms crossed, watching every move the bounty hunter would make. The bounty hunters would make the top two of his list on people he doesn't trust, the top being the Jedi. "That's right, it's my life to make. I choose this path, the path of dark side that so many would be afraid of going down. So technically, you're being paid to stop me from doing what I want. I can understand you doing that merely because you're getting paid." The Sith would clear his throat a bit before continuing, "That's why I would never trust bounty hunters, like many others. It's because there are no loyalty in the bounty hunters, your people just do a job for the highest bidder. Even sometimes during a mission, you would probably betray the person going to pay you the money because someone else just had raised the credits."

"At least I have something to believe in, like the dark side. You don't, because you're like a Toydarian. With a few exceptions, of course. You would open your ears whenever someone says something about credits." The Sith would decide to stop ranting the bounty hunter about their typical background work. It was pointless to do so anyway, he already knew it. Darth Acheron would let out a light sigh, "I probably should be glad that it was you that "captured" me, and not the Jedi. You won't go on ranting about being "true" to the force and all that crap." He would stop speaking, just as the bounty hunter was telling him to get his priorities straight. The young man didn't want to hear that, especially from a bounty hunter. The Sith had chosen to ignore that, moving on to the bounty hunter telling him not to kill.

It was due to the ship going to blow up if he killed Am Rev, the Sith chuckled. There was indeed a chance the bounty hunter would lie, but what's the point in trying to kill Am Rev right away? Besides, he wasn't going to take the chance anyway. "Oh, don't worry, you can comfort yourself with the thought of me NOT killing you inside your ship. Like you said earlier, it won't make any differences with the destination being Nar Shaddaa."

Rev couldn't help but smile and nod in agreement as Acheron went on about bounty hunters owing allegiance to no man, except of course to the men's faces on the credit. It was meant to be derogatory, but he took it was a compliment and shrugged as if to say "Guilty as charged." But he decided not to interrupt the Sith's rant; he'd already been more preachy to Acheron than he'd meant to, and sensed that the conversation was growing somewhat stale. "Nar Shaddaa it is," he said simply, and closed his eyes again. A few moments later, he was asleep.

And within a few hours time, the Bloodshot would arrive at the "Smuggler's Moon." Rev had a reserved pad waiting for him on a landing platform suspended over the cityscape; it was more expensive than landing in a port, but it was a price the bounty hunter was willing to pay to remain inconspicuous. The planet was lousy with hunters, and the word of his indiscretions earlier in the day, by now, would have spread. In short, he had more enemies than usual. This was going to be a brief visit: refuel, repair, then off to Brentaal to turn in his bounty.
