*Having returned from a two month Soujourn in his personal Yacht, cruising the calm seas of Jaemus, Director Mallix returned to the Alignments economic forum Chamber for its first session, he took his seat as the conveined Economists sat, Mallix as their voice, waiting to dialogue with the Government Ministry of Economics.*

"As you will all be Aware my esteemed companions we are now in an open state of war with the New Republic, following a period of tension, in addition to worsening relations with some other Imperial Factions; notably the Council of Moffs.

The Directorate of Economics poses the question to the Government of the Pentastar Alignment, how it is planning to finance these campaigns after the (disasterous) failiure of the Strike at Acherin; (having been branded by foreign media as 'The whipping of the Alignment' and 'The begining of the end for Moff Konig', and how it plans to return the fleet to its full strength without leaving individual worlds or trade lanes vunerable.

Also, what Guarantees can the Government provide that the military will not be chronically mismanaged (to the detriment of the economy and people as a whole) as was the case with the New Imperial Order

I would hasten to add, we maintain good relationships with the Banking Clan and would be more than capable of sourcing loans; however, this directorate will oppose excessive borrowing."

Council Thetis Rhadamanthus was the one meeting with the forum, a duty he loathed. He wished one of the other Councilors was stuck with the job, but he was unfortunately the one with the most economic and financial experience. As he listened to Mallix ramble on, he honestly was hoping a stray missle from one of the firing ranges on the planet might come streaking in, or even for the orbiting Star Destroyer to have a malfunction and 'unfortunatly' fire a shot straight into the building. Unfortunatly, that didn't happen, and he was suffering a fate to himself that was worse than death. Aside from that, he also despised Mallix, whose loyalty could change with a light breeze, and was a turncoat bastard he had no idea why Moff Kaine had brought him in to the PA. "Mr. Mallix, have some loyalty you spineless cod piece. Of course we are at war, the Rebellion has taken Coruscant, and it is our duty to take it back... and bring an end to the anarchy that has swept the galaxy over the past decade. Now Acherin, a world loyal to the Empire, requested our aid against Rebel oppression, and we did, for it is our duty, a concept you have no familiarity with. Now, the Order is working with the Politorate..." he said, being interrupted by a voice of power.

"I believe I can address this, Councilor." said Grand Moff Konig as he walked into the room. "The question is, Mr. Mallix, not how I am going to handle it, or pay for this, or manage that. The true question is, how are you going to do it?" he asked, now standing in front of Mallix. "Come now, give me an answer. I pay you to be the Director of Finance, not ask insesant questions like an annoying journalist who hasn't felt the touch of a woman in five years..." he said, with his arms crossed, looking down at him.

The Speaker of the Economics forum interrupted Council Thetis Rhadamanthu as he spoke his tirate "Order, the Right Honourable Council Thetis Rhadamanthu will refrain from defamation of the Director."

Director Mallix gave a gesture of thanks to the chair before continuing 'Council, I would caution your words, by the declaration of our own former leader, the late and great Moff Kaine a seperate entity from the Galactic Empire proper, and indeed that is the basis for our continuing sovereignty as an independant entity. We should help worlds who share the ideas of our government, yes. We should not however, launch raids which we know we cannot win.'

At that moment Moff Konig entered the chamber, Mallix looked quizically down on him and tried to work out what bit of his anatomy the Moff was looking 'down at' as the Muun was 6'10 as a pose to Mr Konigs 6'2. He was unphased by the mans presence and opened his mouth to object to being intimidated by senior officials when he was posing fair questions.

The Foreman of the Central Committee of Dockers Unions stood, before Mallix could speak 'The Pentastar Alignment definately does not have the military forces to launch confrontational attacks on the New Republic, my dockers are already on double shifts, with little extra pay. This would never have happened under Moff Kaine! Defense first, protect our worlds instead of launching futile assaults.'

There was a quiet murmur of agreement from the assembled representatives.

Mallix spoke, interestingly on the side of the Moff 'Peace Comrade Foreman, Peace. Potentially the Alignment can sustain, in some projections 'limited external operations' I would, however, request that Moff Konig gives us an update on the status of the forces retreating from Acherin (most especially the recently trained (at large expense) land forces which were in some cases pulled from the defense of this world of Eriadu).'

'I am an Economic smith Mr Konig, but I am not a magician. Nor is my species psychic. Set for me and my fellow members of the Economy, what do you want acchieved? What do you plan to do with our tax money?'

'And what guarantees will you provide that our Material will not be frittered away.' spoke the Union Foreman loudly, before the Speaker called him to order.

Thetis snarled. "I can say as I please, I am part of the executive of the Alignment! This shitstain of a being should have been shot when he stepped into our territory..." he said, taking a breath to continue before Konig raised his hand. "Easy, old friend..." he said, before looking back at the Muun. Unless the Muun had stood up, he was able to look down upon him and continued to do so. "I plan to preserve and expand the Alignment, and we have a DUTY to protect those that ask of our aid. Unless the Foreman is to don an Imperial uniform, take the oath of service, and risk his life on the frontlines... I suggest he not lecture me, nor any other person who has done so and is doing so on what is and isn't our duty, or what status or military is at. Are our worlds under assault? I think not...and should they soon come under such, if I were a betting man, I'd bet that there is a traitor in our midst." he said, taking only a brief time to stare at the Foreman, before turning back to the Muun. "I wish to achieve victory, Mr. Mallix. Coruscant, is what I want, and the heads of the Rebel leadership on stakes before the Imperial Palace, Mr. Mallix. You are yet to answer my question..." he said, becoming impatient.

There was some disgruntled murmuring in the room, as the delegates--representing much of the Pentastar Alignment's industries, unions, and corporations (many of them closely associated with the government, and many of them de facto partners-in-power)--were disrespected by Thetis Rhadamanthus, who insisted that he could "say as I please" and proceeded to regale the room with profanity. It was unheard of, and there was silent agreement in the room that this would never have happened under Ardus Kaine.

Rhadamanthus would do well to remember just how powerful the men in this room truly were, and how influential their constituents, their interests, their employees, and their fortunes were in the Pentastar Alignment. They were not a group of men easily intimidated, or bullied. Most of them tended to agree with Konig; they had no particular love for Mallix (after all, human he was not), but nonetheless they gave him the respect of a colleague. True, Mallix's words were certainly provocative, but for Rhadamanthus to introduce such vitriol into a stately, economic forum was distasteful to all.

For now, the union foreman, the speaker, and the rest of the room remained broodingly silent as they awaited Mallix's response to Moff Konig.

"I am indeed answering your question, Moff Konig... I answer" He stroked his chin thoughtfully "I am an economist, I deal with specific variables, known quantities and orders. You say, in your own words 'How am I going to do it?', if I were you, in this case, and I wished to as you are alluding, restore the Empire. I would set a long term plan, in the short term I would find it nessesary to broker a cease-fire with all our enemies in order that we might produce more ships and train men. We can" He spent a moment running a calculation in his mind "acchieve the capture of Coruscant in 20 years, that is if we militarise the economy utterly if we raise 15% of the population to the military, universal training etc.. Such an economic move though would force us to cut all welfare projects and truly militarise the economy and reduce wages on average by 45% across the economy, while raising taxes by 75%... all of which would likely be massively unpopular with the economic sector."

((Sorry for the short post.))

He nodded to Mallix. "Indeed, such a high tax raise would be unpopular to all, not just the economic sector. Although, militarization of the economy may be necessary. A very conservative assessment however... although the draft is a very excellent idea, in fact..." he said, turning to Rhadamanthus. "Pass along to the others of the Inner Circle to circulate a conscription act among the Politorate." he said. He then turned back to Mallix. "I wish for a detailed explaination behind your assessment, so I can understand in full why you believe this should be our course of actions should we wish to obtain our goals." he said.

Mallix spoke out regarding the economic changes. "Mr Konig, if I might pose, while my economic suggestion has the potential of working, it is a significant gamble from the status quo, which we can probrably maintain... Per citizen we will be better off if we remain with the spending plans of your predecessor Moff Kaine."
