Over Garqi, a Recon X-Wing, with six X-Wings in escort dropped out of hyperspace. They were a good distance way from the world, but still in range of the Sensor Pods. "This is Grey Seven, Sensor Pods are deploy, I have a good reading. Just make sure to keep the eyeballs off of me this time, eh fellas?" said Lieutenant Toryn Pierce. Last time the squadron had conducted a recon mission like this, they were full strength, but ambushed by TIE Interceptors, leading to only four of the X-Wings to escape. He was shot down, and had to fight behind enemy lines for three weeks, before a two week long Republic invasion rescued him.

Their were various chuckles among the veterans, trying to keep it light. It was their coping mechanism for the stress of these combat missions. A recon of Garqi should be a blue milk run for them, but these days against the Remnant, you had no idea what response you would get. It could be defended like it was Ord Shit-hole or Coruscant itself. And that, was why recon had become such a highly active mission profile as of late. The Republic couldn't afford to hurl themselves at world, and so they would take the road of strategy, rather than numerical superiority. And thus, Grey Squadron was here, waiting to complete their scan, which was being fed to the fleet in deep space.

((If you don't want to churn out a post Jamie, I'll be fine with just the numbers of what you have at Garqi and around the system.))

As they began their scans of the System they would find that there was a Cardan-II space station docked over the world, acting as a hub for commerce and trade as well as military defense. Docked loosely to the Cardan was a Nebulon B2 Frigate and several large freighters.

However, behind where they had hyperspaced in was the Nebulon B2 'King of Garqi' preparing for a combat exercise and with half its TIE Fighters launched and practicing manouvres, immediately 12 TIE Fighters broke from position and approached the X-Wings from their flank and rear, with the intent of destroying them before they got in close enough to study the defenses in detail (planetside anyway).

---------------------------------------------
Completely undetected (it seems) as they were concentrating on their scans, the TIE Fighters were able to engage the X-Wings, they didnt even manouvre as the first shots seared into the Longprobe, hitting it in its engine block, the first shots being deflected by its sheilds before laser blasts began to hit its hull, blasting it into scrap.

The TIE Fighters, flanking and rear assaulting the X-Wings who just continued on their course made scrap of the X-Wings as at the battle of Despayre, they were utterly wiped out to a fighter, several managing to bail out into deep space, but the majority dying as their fighters were utterly destroyed with no mercy. The frigates were then both placed on high alert. Signalling to Yaga of a possible attack and dissapearing into the asteroid belt and going to silent running so as to be able to ambush any enemy forces.

((Apologies. Net difficulties prevented my posting last night, but I'll roll with it.))

Grey Squadron was, with the exception of Grey Leader, green pilots, most fresh out of training, with little combat experience. Actual resistence had caused the pilots to freeze. The Recon X-Wing had been signaling its eading on an encrypted frequency back to Bandomeer, with a few seconds delay. The two pilots that had survived, Grey Leader, who had piloted the Recon X-Wing, and Grey Four, proceeded to activate their homing beacons for rescue. Outside the system in deep space, a force had been assembled, following the operations at Kalee, under Admiral Kieran Nadia.

Aboard the North Star, the Admiral stood, watching the feed that was bounced back at them from Bandomeer. "Damn..." he said. The squadron was from the Bandomeer base, and still being reformed. Looks like it would be started from scratch now. As he moved over to his command chair, his tactica officer approached him. "Sir, we have two resue beacons being detected from Grey Squadron." reported the Commander. He nodded, "We'll have to pick them up as soon as possible. Signal the attack group of our strike force, we jump in ten seconds." he said. The man nodded and headed over to the communications station. His adjutant, Captain Ria Park, stood next to him at a relay station. "Admiral..." she said, with a respectul nod. He smiled, knowing full well this would be her last mission with him. She was receiving a promotion and being given her own Task Force, much to his pride. "Alright people, let's hit 'em hard." he said, as the attack group made the quick jump to Garqi. Within a minute, they dropped out of hyperspace, a bit of distance from the planet.

The MC80 Home One-class Star Cruiser North Star, with the MC80 Liberty-class Star Cruiser Endeavor ahead of it and the DP20 Gunships Remember Ralltiir and Praetor on its wings, dropped out in full combat readiness and fighters, consisting of six squadrons of X-Wings, four squadrons of Y-Wings, and three squadrons of E-Wings as well as an additional six squadrons of B-Wings from Bandomeer, deployed. For the moment, the attack group stood still, slowly moving forward to the planet, awaiting enemy response before taking any further action.

After some intensive scanning, finding shapes of metal that nowhere near resembled an asteroid, they had hunted down the two Frigates. They came in on them on their flanks, but ahead, with the gunships on the inside and the cruisers on the outside, guns ready. Since they were on 'silent running' they would have to be powered down, as no stealth systems existed on Nebulon-B2s. Immediatly, the cruisers opened fire a full salvo upon the vital systems (weapons, engines, life support), with the gunships following with unleashed their turbolasers upon the already stricken, and (since they were powered down) unshielded systems, and then full warhead salvos of proton torpedoes right into the frigate's hangar bays and shield generators. This would have at least left them crippled, however the Y-Wings and B-Wings finished off the Frigates with a salvo of torpedoes and bombs that ripped through hull and blasted the Imperial ships into clouds of debris and frozen liquids and gasses.

Meanwhile, the X-Wings and E-Wings, hunted down and assaulted the TIE fighters with relentless fury, killing them as mercilessly as they did the recon group that had been sent in. Against a superior and more skilled foe, the TIEs would be no match, and were as quickly gunned down as the recon group. Quickly, after killing every TIE, the fighters headed back to the assault force, which was now headed back towards Garqi.

The two frigates were destroyed, but the TIE Fighters made the battle very difficult for the Rebel fighters, destroying many as they lead them a merry dance around the asteroid belt, while they eventually died they destroyed nigh on their own number of X-Wings and several E-Wings, home advantage telling as they manouvred.

On Garqi the warning Klaxons went off as there was a sign of invasion, the people were not warned however, aside from being told that pirate raids were likely. Causing widespread fear but the population being reassured that there was little chance of the trouble reaching Garqi, and that they should go about their business.

In the Prefect's palace it was Childrens day, and he, being more aware of the attack than most ordered that every child who wished to be fed would be fed with sugar rich products at his palace and all military installations, meaning that any assault by the New Republic would turn into a bloodbath.

Following scans from the Cardan discerned it was unlikely to be able to defeat the enemy fleet but did not wish to appear so, instead the most senior officers just found excuses to be off the station and were instead in the capital. The station was then commanded by its Third Officer, a young Lieutenant who ordered the Fighter squadrons launched and for them to skirmish around the station.

The Imperial soldiers on the planet moved into their entrenchments dug throughout the streets of the Capital and stretching out about a mile from the city, Imperial Army troopers moved into firing positions built in and around civilian buildings (intentionally), while within the city the Federal troops, the Stormtroopers moved into pre-prepared bunkers located under the Hospitals, with access to the cities sewers, meaning they could move around the city under the surface without revealing their dispositions.

At this stage, no vehicles were deployed, their location being kept hidden for the moment, as was the location of the TIE Interceptors (in a school sports stadium with the roof closed).

The troops around the rest of the planet were withdrawn from their positions (aside from 2000 who fortified themselves in the planet's second city) and moved into the woods and swamps of the planet, moving into underwater caves and similar locations, intending to wage a guerilla war against the New Republic forces, benefitting from their knowledge of the locality. Many of these soldiers however simply believed it was a drill.

Being outnumbered over 2:1, the unshielded TIEs were actually no match for the updated X-Wings and advanced E-Wings. What few were left, were finished off when the other fighters joined the fight. The New Republic force began its slow approach, all space threats neutralized, towards the world. A message went out accross all channels down to Garqi. "This is Admiral Kieran Nadia, of the Combined Defense Forces of the New Republic. Your orbital defenses have been destroyed, and we have you outnumbered and outgunned. You being given a chance to surrender now, and have ninety seconds to comply before a full-scale assault is initiated." he said simpy and crisply. Forces began assembling at the edge of the system now, beyond any scanner range the Imperial may have within the system itself, awaiting to signal to jump in.

In the best agricultural areas over Garqi a hissing went up from under the ground in most fields, resulting in no immediate effect other than a saline odor in the air and a mild wilting of the plants in the next hours. Little did the farmers know that the Empire had deployed a highly effective defoliant gas, meaning that the agricultural sector was ruined in minutes, legendary farmlands would turn to barren soil over the next weeks, orchards into dead and dry twigs rustling in the breeze.

At the signal from the New Republic ground forces, a friendly old officer appeared, carrying a vibrosaber and resembling somewhat the dress and manner of the Real Life General Lee.

'Greetings Honoured men of the New Republic, me and my garrison here would like to tender our surrender to your forces, It has been too long I have spent on this outer rim poodoo hole. If you could land a shuttle as soon as possible at the Palace myself the the Prefect will be more than happy to sign with whatever terms seem fit and reasonable. The un-nessesary loss of life on two medical vessels seems unnessesary, but such is war? Regardless, let us not talk of this, and let us all concentrate on the possibilities of the future before us. The Prefect has agreed to any terms, so long as they involve him being taken into protective custody so he will not fall into the clutches of our Glorious Emperor, Gemmell.

We saw the firepower at whatever that world was.. Der.. something? The firepower of your new cruisers is beyond anything we can contest and as such we have no choice but to surrender in the face of vastly superior technology, but be assured, we are strong warriors in spirit; we simply see no use in fighting a blaster rifle with spitballs! Not on our salary'.

In the Square in the front of the Prefects palace 500 Stormtroopers were formed up on parade with a Junior Staff officer, awaiting the NR party to come and bring the instrument of surrender.

(( OOC: No sign of Nadia, so if it's all right I think I'll go ahead and take over the Republic's side of this thread. Just allow me a day or so to catch up on the posts in this thread thus far. ))
