The Corporate Sector Authority
Official Memorandum

To: Ravak & Larben, Independent Shipwrights
Subject: Proposal re: "Origin-class Battleship"

To the Board of Directors, et al; it is our understanding that Ravak & Larben, in our opinion a most esteemed enterprise, has designed and is intending to produce the "Origin-class Battle Ship." This design is of particular interest to the Direx Board because, as you know, we manufacture our own line of similar vessels, which would, of course, make the Origin-class something of a competitor to us. As you will also know, the CSA welcomes vigorous competition and, in fact, encourages it wherever possible in the interest of a truly free marketplace, not just of products, but of ideas, and designs such as your own.

However, we wonder if we might not both profit from the Origin-class? The CSA, through its subsidiary, Rendili StarDrive, is interested in purchasing the rights to manufacture your vessel, and we believe such a purchase would be in our mutual interest; namely, our shipyards are reputed for their history, size and efficiency, and we believe strongly that we can promote, manufacture and simply sell more of your product than Druckenwell's shipyards would, with no disrespect intended of course.

Under the arrangement we propose, the CSA purchase exclusive rights to manufacture and sell your product. Ravak & Larben would be listed prominently as its shipwright, and we are prepared to offer you 95% of the profit from each vessel built and sold. Considering that we can, in all likelihood, build and sell more of them than Druckenwell otherwise could, it is the opinion of our accountants based on our projections that this arrangement would be more profitable for you than your current one. Should you consent to the deal, our opening bid would be 75,000,000 credits, payable in your preference of currency, aurodium, or Authority Cash Vouchers.

Awaiting reply.

Re: Origin-class Battleship Design

I am honored that the initial ship design chosen to be produced has been picked up so quickly, and by such a prestegious production company as well. If nothing else, it does myself and Mr. Larben a very high honor that you are willing to offer us such prestegious rights and dues. To be certain, we are more than happy to sell you and, subsequently, Rendili StarDrive the plans to the Origin-class. There is, however, a rather small snag. The model and specifications of the prototype design have already been purchased by an intereste party on Druckenwell for prouction there. After review of the contract drawn up, I have concluded that with some slight modifications and, post-production here at Druckenwell, I can more than happily sell you the rights. As well, there are four up-and-coming designs that I would be glad to share with you.

Best regards,

Dai'aran Ravak
Independent Shipwright

Mr. Ravak, the Direx Board is pleased with your decision and, assuming confidently your forthcoming designs will be as intriguing as the Origin-class, I'm sure we will be interested in doing business with you again in the near future. With respect to your interested party on Druckenwell, under our arrangement Rendili StarDrive would be perfectly willing to meet Ravak & Larben's present contract obligations, no questions asked. Concordantly, shall I report to the Board that we have a deal? And should we amend the terms to include the designs currently in development?

Direx Board
Subject Proposal re: Origin-class Battleship

It is my unfortunate duty at this time to inform the Direx Board that Ravak & Larben Enterprises will not be selling any designs and/or plans in the immediate future. Certain issues have come to light on our home front that would make it rather difficult for continued operation within our current means if said plans were sold. As such, the Origin-class battleship, Veritas-class cruiser, Aequitas-class missile cruiser and the Immortalis-class star dreadnought will remain, plans and build, the property of Ravak & Larben Enterprises.

We apologize for any difficulty this has caused.

Regards,

Dai'aran Ravak

The Direx Board is very unhappy with this turn of events, Mr. Ravak. Good day, Sir.
