Memorandum for: Orion Karath
Chairbeing of the Defense Council, Senator of Corellia.
Subject: Notice of Fine
CC: Ponc Gavrisom, Chief of State; Advisory Council; Ruling Council; High Council; Justice Council; Court of Justice; Senatorial Oversight Committee

Security: Open

Citing recently discovered information leak, breaking the non-disclosure agreement regarding uninvolved sensitive information, a recent regulation on the Ruling Council, you are hereby fined 100,000 Credits. If you can not pay the demanded amount, please contact the Court of Justice to discuss alternative payment. On a personal note, I am voluntarily fining myself the same amount for my office's involvement.

Senator,

A query, does the corruption panel have the power to give extra-judicial fines without Mr Karath having a full trial?

Regards,

Ponc Gavrisom
Chief of State

The Corruption Panel finds it startling that the Chief of State would question its moves and intentions, rising to the level of assuming it is participating in illegal actions. These fines, suggested by the Corruption Panel, were reviewed and approved by the Court of Justice, following their judgement being made on the staffer involved in the matter.

If both you and Mr Karath wish to simply suggest a fine for yourself and waive your right to trial, then I will not oppose you.

However, bear in mind in future your panel is restricted to uncovering EVIDENCE of corruption and suggesting penalties, not enacting them.

Also, bear in mind that by waiving right to trial you are convicting both yourself and Mr Karath of allowing state secrets to be leaked by negligence and responsibility for the leaking of state secrets in not legally challenging the fine.

Personally I find the idea of crippling your own reputation so to be ludicrous, but if you both admit to being involved in the leaking of state secrets, or implicated negligence resulting in such a leak, procede by all means. But you should also consider if you are being the best Senator you can be, by allowing this sort of torrid affair to happen.

I expect better of members of the Administration and the Corruption Panel.
