I'm announcing to the Senate that myself and like minded individuals are pooling our resources to establish the following organization, and I also encourage other Senators to help publicize it among their constituents and, if possible, encourage donations.
The Freedom Fund
For Rebellion & Resistance
Our principles are threefold; namely, that 1.) government derives its power and right to rule from the consent of the governed, 2.) sentient beings are entitled to certain, universal rights, and that should these rights be willfully and malignantly usurped by their government, it is the also the right of sentient beings to resist that government, and 3.) the recent reforms of the Imperial Remnant are, thus far, inadequate, and that the Council of Moffs continues to disregard the rights of its people and, therefore, those people are entitled to resist it. However, this applies equally to any despotic regime within or without the Imperial Remnant. The Freedom Fund does not encourage violence. We believe that nonviolent resistance and, in particular, civil disobedience are the forms of rebellion most prudent and permissable at this time; that is, activities such as peaceful demonstrations, strikes, the occupation of public lands and buildings, days of silence, etc. To be clear, we do not directly fund illegal activities and it is not our intention to do so. Money from the Freedom Fund would be primarily for the purposes of raising awareness, printing and distributing leaflets, transportation, and so on, as well as legal expenses on behalf of individuals who are unjustly arrested, and lectures on resistance techniques.
Our primary office will be on Ralltiir. The Fund is not for profit, and at no time will more than 5% of funds be used for the purposes of paying the salaries of employees, and various operating expenses.
I intend to go on a speaking tour in order to raise funds for this charity, and I ask that Senators of conscience consider donations however possible. It's my belief, since the Empire/Gavrisom Treaty, that we must do something to assure the oppressed and the disenfranchised that the New Republic has not, in fact, turned its back on them. This is the only way that I know how, within the law.
