Gentlemen,

I went to the exhibit a week ago, I made the pilgrimage many Neimoidians make to the Statue of my Son, Brian Kruus.

It is located aboard the Enforcer-Class Picket Cruiser, captured during the heroic struggle for freedom, justice and democracy at the battle of Acherin, fighting to keep the insidious forces of the Empire from the door at Acherin.

During this cataclysmic struggle, my son, Brian Kruus set off on a voyage to mediate a peaceful settlement on a shuttle of great beauty, plated with aurodium she was....

*his eyes glazed over lovingly*

Valued at 1 Billion credits, a treasure above all treasures.

He set out and the shuttle was gunned down and smashed asunder, with him in it. He died a hero, and a symbol for peaceful mediation, despite the circumstances and died for the values of the New Republic.

Since then he has been lionised, awarded medals by a dozen worlds, peace prizes, statues of him sit on many Neimoidian mantle-pieces as a paragon for our species.

Earlier this year his monument was recognised by the federal government in thanks for the Acherin Operation.

But I digress..

I visited the monument with a group of cross-species schoolchildren, to do a talk on the conflict, and to recite poetry about my sons bravery to them.

I found THIS upon the statue of my son.

*he held up a glass container with a quantity of dust in it*

Dust gentlemen?! Dust! And flaked paint in places. IS THIS WHAT WE SHOULD COME TO EXPECT OF OUR MONUMENTS!

There was no adequate canteen (perhaps we should allow privatised estalishments!), toilets were in short supply and were poorly cleaned...

I call for a systematic review of all monuments and a tour to be partaken of by the full committee, to inspect them all and form proposals for their improvement, as well as to immediately rectify the situation on the Acherin Monument.

Senators, the mucid, fibrous sinews of my heart tremble at this tragic state of affairs. How could such a proud monument to the sacrifice of a fine hero and a fine, glorious shuttle be allowed to fall into disrepair? The New Republic's monuments to its heroes should gleam, Senators. Gleam, I say, much like Mr. Kruus' shuttle once did before it was destroyed. Many sons and daughters of Brentaal fought with Mr. Kruus at Acherin, and I'm sure that it makes them feel—as I do—ashamed that the cause they were willing to die for yesterday is, apparently, not even worth dusting today.

I agree with Senator Kruus that this is an outrageous failing of whomever is responsible for the preservation of our monuments. The Republic's soldiers are willing to sacrifice everything for us, as Mr. Kruus did. Telling their tale and honoring their memories are, truly, the least we can do. I concur with the Senator's proposal for an immediate, comprehensive review of our monuments, so that this travesty does not go on for a moment longer. The Committee responsible—I do not recall which—should labor around the clock if need be. I feel that Brian would have wanted it that way.

These reports are of grave concern to the Administration. Having recieved a letter from the Veterans office this morning, I share their concerns also.

I call upon the head of the committee with responsibility for the condition of federal monuments to step forward and either rebut these claims or propose a plan to rectify the situation.

I propose the following motion.

"The New Republic Senate votes to censure the head of the monuments committee for lack of action in replying to the criticisms of a senior member of the Senate, for contempt of his office and disrespect for those represented by the Federal Monuments of the New Republic and for general unpatriotic conduct."

I concur. I have been approached by members of the monuments committee, who are most apologetic, and who place the blame for this incident squarely on Senator Forte, the chairman of the committee who, it seems, regularly misses the committee's meetings and leaves its members to labor without guidance. When he is presiding, I'm told, he appears bored and, in at least one reputed case, has fallen asleep during the committee's discussions! It also seems as though the Senator has, of late, taken spontaneous and unannounced "leaves of absense," during which he is incommunicado both with his colleagues and his constituents. I've even heard rumors that the Senator—from Ryloth, mind you—is engaged in one or more extramarital affairs, and that these "leaves of absense" are, in fact, for pleasure in the most vulgar sense of the word. All of this, Senators, as he is supposed to be tending to the monuments which honor the heroes of the New Republic. It shocks the conscience.

Senators, this is lewd and hedonistic behavior and, what's more, it is neglecting the responsibilities of his office. I vote in support of the censure of Senator Forte who, I remind the Senate, has been censured for unpatriotic conduct in the past and apparently has not corrected the error of his ways.

I concur. Even though I am not in agreement with the Prosperity Alliance, I believe the heroes should be honored in the best way possible. Something as small as dust does show that whoever is in charge of the monuments isn't completely responsible on how to keep all our heroes in our memory in the best way possible. I vote in support.

I also vote in favor. Imperial Center used to be a world of splendor, and it is unfortunate to see how its monuments have been neglected under the New Republic. This is not, however, a vote in support of the Prosperity Alliance, which was and is a farce.

With four votes in favour, and none against. The Senate approves the following statement: "The New Republic Senate votes to censure the head of the monuments committee for lack of action in replying to the criticisms of a senior member of the Senate, for contempt of his office and disrespect for those represented by the Federal Monuments of the New Republic and for general unpatriotic conduct."
