Without fanfare, but rather with some words of humility, gratitude and accomplishment, I announce today my resignation from the Senate. It has been the foremost honor of my life to have served in this, the greatest deliberative body of the galaxy, representing the organization to which I have devoted my career, and which in turn has brought reliable, quality service and gainful employment to countless quarters of the galaxy (and has done so always with the support of my friends and peers in this room). It has also been my pleasure to have served on the Economics Council, and to have made real and lasting contributions to this Republic, its budget and its economy.

I do not leave without some regret, but it is my intent within the following week to retire from my organization with which you are all familiar, the Outlying Shipping Corporation, and to pass its reins to the able stewardship of its future Chairman and Representative. I will, henceforth in private life, be focusing more on my humanitarian and philanthropic endeavors so that the bounties of this New Republic (which I have been fortunate to share) may also be shared with the most destitute and disenfranchised peoples of the Outer Rim.

I close, then, with a sense of pride in all that I have accomplished, and all that we have accomplished together, and with my thanks to all of my friends in this chamber with whom I have labored, collaborated and even sometimes disagreed over the course of our mutual pursuit of the betterment of the New Republic, and the strength and security of its economy and its citizens. I believe I can say that with your help and your cooperation, I have fulfilled (in small part) that which is the goal and the duty of every Representative or Senator: to leave this Republic a better place than he found it.

Thank you again, my colleagues and friends. Mr. President, I ask that my resignation be submitted for the record.

From the office of the (former) Chairman,
Drayson Loran (R-OSC)

Drayson Lorano de Vega, CEO of Imperial Surplus, Inc.
Member of the Society for the Improvement of the Outer Rim

Representative, even though you and I have been mostly disagreed on a host of issues over these last years, it is still fair to say that your presence and your contributions to the discussion in this chamber will be missed. Even when we have disagreed, it has always seemed the case that you do believe the principles for which you argue (and argue them more eloquently than I do mine), and that you've almost always had the best intentions for this Republic.

But let us also remember that on the most important issues facing the Senate (such as the need for deterrence against the Imperial Remnant, and to broaden our economy), that we and indeed most of the Senate have always been agreed, even if we may dispute the best methods to do so. So all I can say, again, is that your presence will be missed, and that this New Republic is new, and I'm certain that your contributions to it will not soon be forgotten.

Best of luck in your business and your philanthropy, and consider your remarks entered into the record.

Eli Fitzgerald
Chief of State

Eli Fitzgerald
Senator of Ralltiir (10 BBY—Present)

"I was elected to do some flamethrowing in the Senate. To a light a fire under those Senators and make it hot for them."

“Representative Loran, though I too, as with our Chief of State, have been on the arguing side with you still I understand that you have stood for what you have felt would be right and good for the Republic and fought eloquently for your beliefs. That alone is a quality that will be sorely missed within these halls and I find myself in despair at your desire to leave such a grand body of representatives.

“Truly it is hard to find someone who can argue so vehemently yet retain a calm demeanor such that, though disagreed, can continue a rational debate. I for one will miss your ability to enlighten us with your words and make us, though we are opposed, think our arguments thoroughly.

“It is my hope that you will find yourself content in whatever venue you set out on at this time.

Jory Carson
SENATOR
