Man Blames Jedi for Lightsaber Wound

Coruscant — A man who was in critical condition, but has since recovered from a lightsaber wound has told Coruscant Security Forces that he believes it was a Jedi who assaulted him in the underlevels last week. The man, whose name has not been released to the public, was found unconscious on Satunda night, having been cleaved in the stomach by a weapon determined to be a lightsaber. The Jedi Academy has responded that the man is "mistaken."

"All of our students at the chapter house on Coruscant have been accounted for at the time of this episode," Jedi Master Streen told The Coruscant Journal, "We do not believe that a Jedi was responsible in this random act of violence." Streen also noted that lightsabers are common on the black market, and have been found in the possession of criminals, assassins, and bounty hunters—not only Jedi.

"We are concerned with this incident, however," the Jedi Master said, "We have dispatched one of our number, Master Malgaras, to assist the authorities in their investigation."

The wounded man's statement to Coruscant Security Forces claimed he was assaulted by a man using a green-colored lightsaber; a green blade is commonly symbolic of the Jedi Order. "I was at the wrong place at the wrong time," the man told The Coruscant Journal on condition of anonymity. He described the attack as random. "Why I was targeted in particular, I have no clue," he said.

The People's Inquest, a Jedi watchgroup based on Coruscant, expressed concerns over the incident in a statement this week. "Although we are distrustful of the Jedi and believe, strongly, that there is too much collusion between Coruscant and Yavin, we do not want to believe that a Jedi was responsible for this incident," said Firris Palbert, Jr., the President of the People's Inquest, "We expect the Jedi Academy to cooperate with a thorough and transparent investigation into this incident, until the perpetrator is identified."

The Coruscant Journal will follow the investigation as it develops.
