Greetings Senate,

I would like to be the one to propose Anti-Sith Bill. It was proposed once before and it got passed. Shortly after the Jedi Civil War ended four thousand years ago, the Old Republic Senate passed this bill which outlawed Sith and their teachings. However, this was repealed by the time of the Clone Wars. I would like to bring this up again. I brought this up to ensure safety of the Republic citizens, due to attacks made by the dark siders in the past years.

I vote in favor of the bill.

Tremaine Fowlkes,
Senator of Mowgle

I'm sure that all of us, with the possible exception of Governor Oswaldt, are opposed to the Sith. However, my concerns on this measure are twofold; 1.) "Sith" would have to be very specifically defined, or else many people could be referred to as "Sith" and potentially arrested. I've seen vagrants on the street for example, here on Coruscant, who claim to be Sith but of course I don't take them seriously. Even the actual Sith, as I understand it, have historically disagreed on what "Sith" means in terms of how its teachings are interpreted. So I think the term must be narrowly defined.

However, in doing so, 2.) we are proposing to ban a belief system that we don't like. True, we are opposed to the Sith, but once we ban one religion, or belief, or opinion, we may soon find ourselves banning more, and more, and more. That is something I am uncomfortable with. I vote against the measure for these reasons. I think we should continue to prosecute the Sith and bring them to justice for the crimes that they commit, not necessarily for what they believe.

Senator Fowlkes, I applaud your attempt at a good deed, but I must vote against. If wer ban 'Sith' as it stands, they can simply change themselves to be 'Dark Jedi' the next day. I agree with Senator Vanden that 'Sith' must be very defined to the smallest letter so that no mistakes can be made.

I am not fond of the Sith either, Mr. Vanden. The Jedi and Sith are but two wings of the same bird—a flightless bird that believes it isn't. Palpatine was an impulsive fool who squandered the Empire, its troops, and its fleet for the gratification of his stupid religious beliefs. He is not missed on Eriadu. I support the measure, however I vote against because it does not also include the Jedi. We should be rid of both of them.

*The senator from Chandrila would sit in chamber and listen to several of the other senators before she would comment.*

I am not sure, gentleman, that you have any idea how dangerous the Sith can truly be. It is not oppressing a religion, that Senator Fowlkes, my husband, is proposing. He is proposing to save millions, perhaps billions from being oppressed again under the rule of the Sith.

You all oppose this, yet are you willing to actually discuss the issue and come up with a viable solution? It is a problem, whether you want to see it or not.

And Senator Oswaldt, if you are ever in trouble, I wonder if you would let a Jedi save your life if they were the only who were able to help you. Because I can guarantee you that a Sith would not.

Now if you will pardon me...

*There would be no need to call her to order or have her removed from the Senate chamber, as Senator Thanatos promptly departed, her aide at her heels, without so much as a glance at Tremaine.*

I grow tired of this dichotomy, Senator Thanatos—the idea that a Sith threatens my life and a Jedi must save it. As I said, we should ban them both. Problem solved. The only reason you're sympathetic to the Jedi is because they choose to serve the Republic. For now. There will come a day when they choose not to. This is exactly what happened to the Old Republic, when the Jedi attempted a violent coup against a popular, elected leader. It can happen again, and again I say the Jedi and the Sith should be banned. This whole "Force" religion has been responsible for every galactic war in history. Enough is enough.

In other words, any practicioner of the "Dark Side". Sith, Dark Jedi, Rogue Jedi, Fallen Jedi, etc., shall now be banned.

Senator Crion, your amendment is absurd. The "light" and "dark" sides of the Force are artificial constructs. They are the religious beliefs of the Jedi and, as it happens, of the Sith. The Common Charter says, specifically, that "the Senate shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion," and you are proposing, Senator, to do just that. Let us remember, gentlemen, that the Force is but a means to an end. It is not intrinsically good or evil; it is a scientific phenomenon, and it is how it's used that makes it good or evil. Even the Jedi—that is, the most sensible of them—will tell you that "light" and "dark" are metaphors, not to be regarded literally. To enshrine them in law is absurd, and it is unconstitutional.

I am against this bill for the reasons that have been mentioned, and I am thoroughly against Senator Crion's amendment to it.

This Motion Fails. But I would encourage Senators to discuss alternatives and propose them in due course.
