Lando Calrissian had been a busy man in the months since Revan Park disappeared. As Lando had been informed in his briefing, Mr. Park had been the leader of a group of refugees from the blight of the planet Leirooine, which had once been known as Deralia and which, now, was known as UP235—an uninhabited planet, since its despotic King had gone mad, bombarded its ice caps from space, and flooded the entire world. He sounded like a nasty character, to Lando. It was no wonder there were so many refugees who, since Mr. Park vanished without a trace, were without a leader or a permanent home. Ponc Gavrisom, the New Republic's Chief of State, had recently contacted Lando with a proposition; Gavrisom was interested in helping the Deralian refugees settle on a planet of their own (most of them were spread throughout the galaxy, but the largest single population of them resided, temporarily, on Serenno). This is where Lando came in—he was an impartial figure who could represent the Republic, and specifically Gavrisom, without seeming imperious and without yet involving the Senate. Lando was also a very enterprising man, which would come in handy for this endeavor.
An appropriate planet, called UP3010, had been located in the Tammuz Sector. It was terrestrial and temperate, and nominally resembled Deralia before the flood and even had the same number of moons. Lando fronted the credits to buy UP3010 from the nearby planet Tammuz-an, whose attempts to develop, farm, or mine its posession were persistently frustrated by pirates and, eventually, abandoned. They were happy to sell the troublesome world, but warned Lando that the pirates would be problematic for him too. He was undaunted.
And so was Gavrisom, who was working tirelessly behind the scenes. The Chief of State arranged for a Corellian Gunship, the Coronet, which was scheduled for dismantling to instead be quietly loaned to Lando, along with a pair of old, but operable B-wing fighters. Calrissian had no problem assembling crew and pilots for them—he assembled his elite unit of mercenaries, Lando's Commandos, one more time. They took the fight straight to the pirates; the Coronet and the B-wings went unexpectedly for the pirate base on Tarnoonga, while Lando flew the Lady Luck to UP3010 (or "Landooine" as he'd temporarily named it) to attack the outpost/fueling depot there himself.
The pirates were decimated, and a grateful Tammuz-an donated to Lando the various mining and farming implements they had once planned to use on UP3010. With the planet secured, Calrissian finally went to the Deralian refugees on Serenno and presented it to them with the best wishes of the New Republic. There wasn't much debate, as the gift was promptly accepted. With Lando's part finished, and with a compelling case to make to the Senate, Gavrisom handled the rest; the Deralians were provided with transportation to "Landooine" and prefabricated homes, schools, a library and, eventually, a medcenter. Most of these were named after Gavrisom, or Calrissian.
There was even some discussion of keeping the planet officially named "Landooine," but the smuggler-turned-General insisted that it was only right to name the new planet Deralia, after the old. As for Lando himself, well, the Senate refunded him his expenses and he also invested in a small farming concern on the planet. But even so, the adventure had all been a bit too much excitement for him, for now. In fact, the Deralian adventure would be one of the reasons he'd soon marry his lover and associate, Tendra Rissant. This series of events, however, were sure to make a riveting chapter in Calrissian's upcoming memoir, How to Succeed in Everything.
