In front of the hotel an army of photographers and reporters had gathered, and a croud of curious onlookers were being held back by security gates and a legion of Procopia's finest.

The Tapani Imperial Hotel, located on Estalle Island had been transformed into a twinkling wonderland: the crystal chandeliers were hung with softly beaded strings of rhinestones, and glorious roses bloomed everywhere, from the soaring centerpieces to the massive garlands on every archway. A pearl white carpet on the marble floor led the way from the reception room into the ballroom proper. The two orchestras faced each other across the ballroom, playing a serene waltz as the Tapani nobles displayed their finery. It was a magical sight, House Melantha had really outdone themselves.

Fajra wore a plush velvet gown of the darkest green - almost black. It had a plunging, outrageously low neckline, cut from the collar bone to the belly button. The bodice was embroidered with a thousand crystals that twinkled against the fabric like stars shimmering in the night sky. It was a fantastic, entrance making dress.

When Fajra entered the Ballroom, the whole room stood still. The guests stared at her as she stood by the entrance, illuminated under the spotlight, uncertain about where to go next. Fajra's eyes glazed, in that moment she was transported back to the final battle, flashes of the black day, bombs sounding in the distance. Life within her eyes didn't return until the herald motioned her to the stairway, followed by her fifteen comrades.

"Lady Fajra Merav" the herald announced, followed by an awkward silence as Fajra whispered something in his ear. He seemed to be caught off guard, but only for a moment before he continued. "Commander Fajra Merav and the 901st Youth Division!" A splotlight shone on them, and the orchestra began to play as they walked slowly into the party.

The Calipsa family was noticably absent from this party, but their head bodyguard, one Tarodal Navlon, who had caused such a stir in the Tapani sector with his track record and performance and now most notably for his ostensible leave from service, had come to this shindig.

He wore a well tailored black suit, on his belt was a lightfoil of recent creation. The hilt was black, with a green line curving through the midline of the shaft.

He was down in the ballroom, off to the side as Fajra Merav was announced. He turned and watched as the others did, and in his mind he was already thinking again.

If his apprentice were to succeed, perhaps word would be passed quickly enough to this party that something interesting might occur.

Within a moment of Fajra's characteristically spectacular entrance, the patrons at the bar across the room might notice a rippling about the surface of their drinks. The vibration would fast become more distinct as it became a rumble, then a temblor. The crystal chandeliers quavered, and guests looked about confusedly as the deafening sound of repulsorlifts was heard over the hotel, drowning out the fanfare that had accompanied Fajra and her men. A moment later, the rumbling subsided and the whine of the repulsors began to wane, slowly, into nothing. There was much grumbling among the guests and commotion among the staff. No one seemed quite sure what had happened, but none of them were particularly surprised when, a moment later, the herald announced the arrival of "Baron Sterling Farland, and escort." The disdain in the herald's voice was unmistakeable, and he emphasized "escort" as if to imply all the meanings of that word. Nonetheless, Farland—with one arm around the hip of a wonderfully sultry and wonderfully green Twi'lek woman—used his free hand to stuff some folded credit bills into the pocket of the man's immaculate suit and, with a grin, implored him to "Lighten up and smile."

The Twi'lek woman wasn't smiling, and if, in fact, it was possible for a green-hued Twi'lek to go red in the face, she no doubt would have when Farland, with most of the room's eyes still upon him, stumbled noticeably on the pearl white carpet and relied on her for his balance. It was bad enough that he'd flown there drunk—in his freighter no less, not even a limo—and, what's more, that he'd landed beside the building without clearance in a lot intended for at least two dozen speeders to park, and, moreover, that he'd treated the security guards as valets and told them to not to leave a scratch on her ("her," that is, referring to his freighter, not to the Twi'lek woman; this is a distinction he felt compelled to make—out loud). Embarassing her in front of the ball room, however, was too much. She smiled, nodded and waved as much as she needed to, but as soon as they had a moment she leaned in close to his ear and said, "Thanks for the invitation. Now we're through. Don't call me, asshole." She kissed him on the cheek, then disappeared into the crowd, smiling, nodding and waving all the while. Farland shrugged and made his way, predictably, to the bar.

On his way there, he caught a glimpse of Fajra Merav. He knew that she'd be there (and, in fact, this had played no small role in the amount of liquor he'd had this evening), but he didn't expect her to look quite so stunning. Her velvet gown was indeed fantastic and yet, Farland noted, she flattered it. His eyes wandered about her for a moment and then came to rest on her eyes; they were the same, amber eyes he'd always remembered, but there was something different about them. She might have felt his gaze upon her and might have returned it in another moment if Farland wasn't seized, suddenly, by a firm grip to his shoulders. He turned only to find that he'd been about to stumble into Senator Mical de Crion and one of the man's many, many bodyguards had stopped him from doing so. "Unless you want this dance, friend, I suggest you unhand me," Farland said, too amused with his own quip to feign indignity. The bodyguard hastily let go of Farland's shoulders, told him to "Just uh, watch where you're going," and then disappeared with the Senator into the crowd.

Farland did his best to straighten his suit—dark blue trousers and unbuttoned coat, a light blue shirt with no tie, and a black cummerbund, all of which already hopelessly wrinkled from the harness of his pilot's seat—and then concluded his journey to the bar. He ordered an Estalle Island iced tea and waited with his back to the bar and elbows on the counter, glancing about the room in search of Fajra once more.

He made his way through the party, shaking hands with everyone and entering discussion with select individuals. He stopped for a moment when Lady Merav was introduced, admiring her beauty. He would make sure to sit down and talk to the girl before the night was over. For now, he continued to socialize, doing the politician thing. His overt security detail was becoming cumbersome as the room gained more bodies, but to Mcial, it was an annoyance. Eventually, he had had enough. "Alright, all Freeworld military, take positions outside this room, and stay there unless called. HKs, go protect the ship. Everyone else will stay with me." he said, in a final moment of frustration when one of the commandos from the Freeworlds Common Army threatened, or more accurately attempted to threaten, Sterling Farland; the man was a well known supporter of Crion, and Mical did not want to anger or embarass him That left himself, his daughter, and their two bodyguards. Hopefully that would make things far more easier.

When Fajra smiled, she did so with her eyes. Eyes speak; they say what words cannot, revealing the desires of the heart and soul. What Sterling Farland saw within her amber oculars, could not have been masked better. She was a master of deception, something learned from Tapani's noble society, an art in which she transformed and perfected. Even after her nine-year absence, there wasn't one that didn't know of Fajra Merav. The lady who preferred dueling arenas to ballrooms, who gave herself to the night without worrying about tomorrow. She chose recklessness over sensibility, and didn't blink when her inner demons exposed themselves on the holo's. It wasn't uncommon that Tapani's noble youth indulged in such debauchery, it was an unspoken truth, not meant for the eyes and ears of the public. Titles aside, it was that very devil may care attitude that made her famous. She knew no shame, and if she were anything like the nineteen year old that once graced Tapani headlines, she was sure to make them again. House Melantha would rise again, and tonight was only the beginning. Although it was believed that her life ended in service to the Imperial Remnant, and that she'd been gone for nine years, seeing her was like a trick of the mind. Her amber eyes danced from one face to the next, her soft laughter escaped her cupids bowed lips and teased her smile into a Cheshire cat grin. It was hard to fathom that she ever left, and now that Melantha's princess has returned to them, were they ready for her? Was the Tapani Sector ready? She was corrupt beyond redemption, and nearly impossible to ignore. Among the sea of faces, there were only a few who caught her eye for longer than a second. Her father (High Lord Daiyu Merav), Taradol who looked vaguely familiar, Senator Mical de Crion, and Sterling Farland. A drink was much needed, but considering who was at the bar, she'll pass for now. There was also something she wanted to address, and she wanted to be sober for that anyway. She was used to firing a round when she commanded attention, but unfortunately she had to be a lady, sort of.

"Lords and Ladies, Barons and Baronesses, and to all who share in my happiness. Nine years is a long time to be away from home, a long enough time to forget you ever had one. Most of you, I've known my whole life and greet me as you would family. I'd like to think that what I say next will not come as a surprise, considering I've never coated my tongue with sweets, what you see is what you get. I don't doubt some of you are here with good intentions, and some of you are here to judge as you did before. You don't need to whisper of my past and current spice and alcohol addiction. Or the fact that I'm probably too thin, and probably have an eating disorder. You're also probably wondering if I've killed anyone in combat, or commited war crimes. There's no need to to trouble yourself with such gossip, because I'm going to tell you the honest truth. The answer is yes, yes, yes, yes and yes. All of the above is true, and I'm not afraid to admit it. If I'm going to be apart of Tapani politics, I want to do so with honesty. I want you to believe in my spoken words, and know that I mean what I say. I can remember a time when I waited for your letters, had they been lost along the way? But that's in the past now...isn't it? All is forgiven. I would like to acknowledge all that House Melantha has done for myself, and the men and women who fought by my side. Care packages were sent from time to time, some of them included medical supplies and little things that helped to pass the time. The 901st have not forgotten, and tonight we'd like to show our thanks by giving back to you. As of this day, myself and the 901st will become apart of Melantha's security forces."

He perked an eyebrow to the announcement made by Lady Merav. He had never had a chance to meet with the Lady, but intended to this evening. It was certainly an interesting tale of her life, as he had been briefed before coming to the event. He had personally never met or really heard of Fajra Merav, being a Freeworlder and more concerned over the past couple of years with the Rebellion, establishment of the New Republic, and later fending off the IMC and trying to keep Tapani sovereignty alive and well. He, some would say fortunately and others unfortunately, did not have time to engage in the Tapani Sectr social circles, and was merely known by his acts not his words when he was elected in a surprise as their Senator. It was this unknown that he always brought to the table with the nobles, and tried to leave that unknown in the air when he left the table. In a way, it was a doctorine of fear, for many feared the unknown, and he was certainly unknown to many of the nobles until recently. Leaving behind his daughter and their shared bodyguards, he made his way through the room to the Lady, and gave a bow. "My Lady Merav, Senator Mical de Crion of our fine sector...do you prefer Lady or Commander?" he asked to break the ice of their conversation.

"Senator Mical de Crion…" so THIS was him? She wasn’t exactly a fan, considering he wasn’t exactly a fan of Rogue Imperials. But in all honesty, she didn’t know enough about him, and who was she to judge? "Senator, I’m not sure where you stand in regards to Tapani politics, for I’ve been gone a very long time. As you’ve perhaps heard, I’m a big advocate for dueling. It is apart of our history and I wish to see this tradition thrive. So I’m going to do my thing, and your going to turn a blind eye." She touched her index finger to her thumb, and placed the circle around her eye. "I’m glad we’ve reached an understanding" she said all while smiling, Finally, she winked once and turned her body away from him.

OOC: This is terribly short, but I felt bad that this post has been hanging. I went away over part of the summer and started school full-time. I also work full-time and just haven't been around to roleplay. I'm sorry ifI kept anyone hanging. I'll try to post once and a whilea, but wont involve myself in anything too big.
