| Senator Crion was known to wander the halls of the Senate Rotunda and the Executive Building. His Tapani Sector office was in the Executive Building, as the nobles had insisted on a large suite. Then again, they thought that one of them would be in the seat, not a Freeworlder. He kept a small office within the Senate Rotunda as well, and hence was seen in both buildings. Often, he would try to escape from his inordinate amount of security to talk to fellow delegates and citizens. He was known as a man of the people, and was always interested in a conversation with the common man. It had led to him being one of the more popular Senators, even despite his previous incidents of foot in mouth syndrome. Today, however, he was escaping into the Senate Building from his Executive Building office, and from his security, in his personal speeder. He had someone in mind however, not just random wandering like usual. He was alone, which was rare, as his daughter or one of his two personal bodyguards that he shared with his daughter, were known to be with him almost constantly. Many liked his daughter's involvement in his career, and through correspondence was persuing her third year of her college education in political science from the University of Coruscant, already with an honorary degree from Mrllst Planetary University. Many saw her as her father's eventual replacement, and he saught to ensure it as it was her dream. She held a natural gift, as he did, for the arena of politics. Like him, she genuinely cared about the people and wanted to see things get done, not receive a massive paycheck. Today, he would begin the move to put her in the position. When he landed his speeder, he strode into the Senate Building. From memory, he walked to the office of Senator Vanden of Naboo. There he entered, walking into the waiting room. "Hello, I'd like to see Senator Vanden if it is possible." he said, offering a hand to the secretary. "Senator Mical de Crion, Tapani Sector." he said with a charming smile.

| Mical would find Meeva Tarpals, Senator Vanden's secretary, standing behind her desk assembling flimplast documents into a dossier cradled under her arm. She wore a green, belted jacket that complimented her turquoise skin tone, and had the appearance of being about to depart. Indeed, the Senator had given her the afternoon off. However, professional as always, she greeted Mical cordially. Like many of her species, she had a friendly demeanor. Unlike many of her species, she spoke in perfect Basic. "Senator Crion," she said, recalling the man's name from her photographic memory even before he'd introduced himself. "I think you're in luck," she told him, glancing at her slender wrist chrono, "The Senator should just be finishing his calls for the afternoon. Come with me, please." Meeva gracefully assembled the last of the documents into the dossier, then led Mical through the door to Vanden's inner office. Senator Vanden was at his spacious viewport with his hands casually in his trouser pockets. He wore a small, functional but not unseemly headset and nodded on occasion, clearly listening to someone on the other end of the line. He glanced pleasantly, if somewhat distractedly, at Meeva and Mical, nodding to them in greeting. "Yes. That's the one, thank you," he said into the microphone on his headset, "Please send the deposition to my datapad, if you will. And the readout also, yes. Thanks again, Sal. Sure thing." He removed the headset and set it down on his desk as he rounded it on his way to shake hands with Senator Crion. "Mical," he said cordially, "Good to see you. Please, come in. Come in." He looked over his shoulder, briefly, wondering where the Senator's fabled security detail was, but his gaze came to rest instead on Meeva, who was looking to him. "Will you need me after all, Senator?" she asked. "No," Vanden answered her kindly, "Go or you'll miss your date. I'll see you tomorrow." She smiled, nodded to both men, turned, and then receded through the door. "Please, do have a seat," Vanden said to Mical with a gesture to one of the chairs before them as he returned to his desk and leaned upon it, facing his guest. His office was a modest one, compared to most others; it was decorated in mostly earthy, green hues, adorned with a combination of Gungan pottery and pastoral paintings of Naboo. With a pair of ferns in the office and a hanging plant in the waiting room, it seemed much more alive than the grey confines of Coruscant visible through the viewport. Outside, at the base of the viewport, was a device that Vanden had contrived himself—a shallow trough, filled with water, with a mirror at the bottom that reflected rippling sunlight into the office. It had been assembled for him by an artisan from Theed. Crion would note, also, that an air conditioner kept the room pleasantly cool. "What can I do for you?" Vanden asked Crion as the latter was seated in one of the chairs, upholstered in a fine, forest green.

| He smiled as he took a seat. "The same to you." he said to him. He took in the room, and it was certainly as inviting and pleasant as the Senator himself. It certainly reflected Naboo. It was something that, he would keep to himself, he envied. His own offices were in fact symbolic of the Tapani Sector, a humanocentric pillar of wealth and endulgance. Despite being the closest thing the Freeworlds had to nobles anymore, he hated it. Unfortunately, any changes elicitied outrage from the nobles, and it was better to keep the majority happy in his current case, while they certainly hated his policies and ideals. He was still shocked no assassination attempts had been made. Despite these various inner thoughts, he remained composed and undistracted. "I wish I could enjoy such cohesion with my constituency that you do, Atremis. However, you know the Tapani Sector...I have resistence at every turn from the noble houses..." he said, taking a moment to enjoy the room a bit more. "I apoligize, I'm getting off topic, that isn't why I'm here. If you haven't noticed, my message, ideals, and beliefs have become more...defined in recent months. I was so busy with helping get my sector back on its feet, I had become somewhat detached from galactic affairs, but thanks to my experiences on Coruscant, I am grounded again. I am a statesman at heart...and my expertise is in the fields of diplomacy and policy." he said, taking a moment to observe Vanden. Crion was keeping his usualy friendly, pelasent personality. "I'll get down to the point. We have, as recently forced to our attention, a grave absence in our executive body. The problem is, the Chief of State is refusing to fix it. The Minister of State has been a vacant office since Gavrisom took office, and it can not continue as such. We need someone capable, and ready for the task. I hate the seediness, and seeming improper procedure, but... I am looking for someone to introduce a resolution in the Senate that calls for myself to be appointed to the office of Minister of State...and I would like to see you introduce it." he said. If Vanden were paying attention, he could tell that this move made Crion uncomfortable. He knew what it could look like to someone who didn't know him well.

| Vanden stroked his beard contemplatively as he considered the idea. It was true that he didn't know Crion well and, until recently, Crion didn't seem to know himself all that well. There was truth in what the man said, however, that he'd honed his message in recent weeks and had, of late, been a more consistent voice for many of the liberal causes that Vanden himself supported. He was also right that there should, indeed, be a Minister of State—this became abundantly clear when President Gavrisom was recently absent and the Republic's relations with the Remnant declined precipitously as a result. Gavrisom had once offered the job to Vanden, in fact, but the Senator had refused; he was of more use in the Senate, he decided, and anyway he was too idealistic for the position. But how would Crion fare as Minister of State? He wondered. The Minister of State was a very powerful position; it presided over many of the New Republic's foreign and domestic affairs and could, potentially, have a great deal of influence on the issues that Vanden hoped to advance in the Senate. With respect to foreign affairs, it seemed that Crion was largely in support of the peace with the Remnant. This was good. Another issue which concerned the Senator from Naboo and was particularly on his mind of late were regulations to protect fragile environments and ecosystems on New Republic worlds—strict regulations, sometimes against the wishes of certain Republic worlds, such as Eriadu, that polluted their environment with reckless abandon. It would be a fight to get it through the Senate, and lately, it seemed, Senator Crion had stayed away from the most contentious issues. He wouldn't tell this to Crion now, but Vanden had no doubt that how the Senator voted, or did not vote, on this forthcoming environmental bill would significantly influence his perception of the man's suitability to be Minister of State. He had, however, a more immediate concern as to Crion's style of leadership. "Well," he said after a moment's consideration, "I always say that anyone who can succeed in Tapani politics must be very good at statecraft. You and I are agreed on most issues, I believe, including the Jedi. I wonder, though; what of the Jedi summit on Ossus? There was some enthusiasm for this idea, as I recall, but it seems not to have happened. I would certainly like to see this concluded as soon as possible, and concluded successfully, before I'd feel comfortable introducing such a resolution."

| He laughed at Vanden's comment on Tapani politics. "It's not as hard as it seems, really. I get used to the nuances after a time." he said, listening to Vanden's comment on the Jedi Summit. He smiled and shook his head to him, knowing that would come up, but hoping it would in fact not be part of Vanden's arguement against the resolution. "The Jedi Summit will actually be under way very soon. There have, of course, been delays in getting it started, primarily due to my duties at home as head of state for the Freeworlds. Should that be a concern to you on this matter, should I take a higher office in the Republic government, I will be giving immediate resignation as Premier." he said, hoping to quell any concerns at the mention of home distractinos.
